Ding, ding, ding. Round Two. The gloves come off and the episode starts with drama and sh*t talking. Urkel is causing a raucous. He is honestly so extra and it was bound to happen with someone. Erin’s humbleness is so cute and Brik looks like he’s got shell shock. Tim introduces Traci Inglis from JustFab and before she presents the challenge, 100 women come out of nowhere surrounding the designers. All we need is Beyonce’s “Run the World (Girls)” to start playing. The challenge is to create a look for the JustFab everyday woman and the winning look will be produced and sold on the website. This is an amazing opportunity, I just wish they were using the everyday woman instead of their models.
This is a one-day challenge with a budget of $150, so this means they have five minutes to rub two rocks together. Ready GO! During the Mood trip, Linda is unfocused and apparently a dog distracted by squirrels? RED FLAG. Back at the ranch, Natalia wants to know where the toilet is in French, but gets scooped into Urkel’s drama. She smartly deflects.
Laurence opens up about her heartfelt and honest story. You can totally tell this is why she comes off so serious. She is a strong person and I respect her for sharing something so personal with the world.
Critique time with Tim is here and the highlights are:
-Alex his color coded OCD list is a riot. He is creating pants, a silk camisole and a chiffon button down. Welcome to the CHIFFONIES!
-Erin: A dash of cocktail in a neoprene tent dress that can also be cinched. I love this idea and the vibrant colors she chose.
-Laurence: This looks very now and super wearable. Me likey.
Okay and here are the lowlights:
-Linda’s urban kimono/sheer jacket over a sweater tube dress with a horizontal keyhole.
-Cornelius’ Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice.
-Brik describes his look as “funky casual, not trying too hard.” Nailed it. There is no wow in there at all. NEXT.
-Kimber has not started, but drafted a high-waisted pants with a bell shaped top. It’s looking very 70’s and not creative.
During the fitting Linda tells her model to make her clothes exciting, which is hysterical because that’s like asking Judge Judy to do a cartwheel. You know what else is hysterical? Cornelius with his, “No shade but… No shade but…” Keep it to yourself Cornelius, you’re a shady queen. #Bye
Kimber sews her top inside out twice and I wonder if she’s going to take it apart or improvise. We’ll have to see! Zippers are zipped and off to the races!
Runway Show
Laurence – Love the color and cut so much. The details are really cool.
Rik – Love the cut of this and combo of patterns. The angled button placket detail on the skirt is interesting. The only thing I would have done is made the length of the skirt two inches longer and closed up the peekaboo stomach so it can appeal to more women.
Alex – This is very chic and all the pieces look very well-made for a one day challenge.
Jenni – I love the silhouette of these pants so much. They feel cool, new and are a great update to the drop crotch. Not sure about the furry shoulder tops.
Kimber – I wish the top was a different shape and the pants hit the floor. I’m starting to see a pattern between this challenge and the last with these asymmetrical cone shapes. Not really my style.
Linda – I get what she was trying to do, but I’m not attracted to it. The heather grey knit doesn’t come off as a sophisticated color perhaps if it were a darker/deeper charcoal? Also, if her hair was a bit styled and maybe straighter it would look more modern and sleek not a teased mess all over the place. It’s very “Ghost of Fashion Past.”
Nathalia – Looks very homemade. I don’t like the contrast cuffs and collar.
Sarah – This looks like something every working woman already owns. This isn’t giving her a reason to buy something new that’s not already in her closet.
MJ – LOVE this! I can see a TON of women in this.
Urkel – I would have liked it better sleeveless with no faux hood. I also think the relationship of the stripe to the houndstooth isn’t drastic enough.
Tasha – I really like this casual layered jersey look. It looks cool and sexy.
Brik - Christinaaaaaa! NOOOOOO sweatpants on the runway EVERRRRRR!
Dexter – It’s 30 sizes too big. I don’t know about this.
Roberi – This is way too basic. I was expecting something SO much more innovative. It looks like separates you can get at H&M.
Erin – I love this color combo. It’s a great cocktail dress and definitely a piece that would appeal to a lot of women.
Judges put Alex, Laurence and Erin in the top. Laurence wins. Yes, this jumpsuit might not be for the “everyday girl” but not everything on JustFab is geared to one person. This is a specific customer and she is definitely out there shopping on JustFab. Military green is a very smart move because you can wear this color any season and the short sleeves make it less heavy on top. I can see anyone from Rhianna to Cameron Diaz wearing this. Great job!
Linda, Brik and Kimber are in the bottom and the judges seemed like they had the worst case of OCD after an earthquake because they were putting everyone in their place. I thought they were going to throw a double elimination in there, but Linda is sent packing. She made a point on the runway “it’s all about taking risks” and I agree with her to an extent. The designer should be taking a risk, but not using a fabric that they have never used before because that is just setting yourself up to fail.
