Aside from an impressive client roster — which includes the likes of Cameron Diaz, Emmy Rossum and Jeanne Tripplehorn — celebrity makeup artist Christy Coleman is perhaps best known for her role in painting the red carpet green through the use of all-natural and eco-conscious cosmetics.

In celebration of Earth Day, I've asked Coleman to share her expertise on how, and why, we should green our beauty routine:

“With all of the ‘going green’ hoopla over the past few years, it is important to understand this basic truth: a few small changes in our approach to daily life can have a huge impact on the health of the planet.

Going green is not only a way to make healthier choices with the products we use and the foods we eat, it’s a way to recognize that everything we do, every day, has an impact on our planet, for better or for worse. All of our choices as individuals – where we live, what we eat, the products we use, whether we recycle, how we shop — all have a global impact.

It is important that we all try to create and utilize reusable and sustainable products that are healthy for all aspects of life on earth. Not only the packaging becomes a burden on our planet, but the chemicals in our body washes, shampoos, and conditioners get washed into the drain ending up in our rivers and oceans thus adding to the pollution of our water ways and marine life."

Coleman's spring/summer product picks:

The Organic Pharmacy Organic Glam Bronzer
Apply to cheeks, forehead, bridge of nose as well as your décolleté. Thus creating the perfect healthy glow for summer!

The Organic Pharmacy Lipstick in Fuchsia
A hot shade for summer, as shown on the runway of Jil Sander this spring.

All things Tata Harper
Formulated without synthetics, perfumes, colors or animal ingredients, the entire line is non-toxic. This means no parabens, no PEGS, no propylene glycol, no petrochemical byproducts or any of the bad stuff that we wouldn’t want in our personal care. Tata uses glass whenever possible and minimizes the use of plastic. She uses treeless labels. She buys electricity from sustainable sources. She formulates, batches, fills and fulfills from one location, thus lowering her carbon footprint.

Rare Elements Hair Care El’ Treatment Serum
Packed with 100% naturally derived pure botanicals, exotic butters, and nourishing nut oils that have been carefully sourced from all parts of the world, this treatment is as socially responsible as it is luxurious. Apply a small amount to ends before you sleep. This takes away all dryness, and is perfect for the summer months.

Juice Beauty SPF 30 Mineral Moisturizer
This tinted moisturizer gives you the sun protection you need while adding the perfect amount of coverage.
