Q: What's the best way to apply bronzer? Do you have any top picks? — Ali K.
A: Thank you for your query, Ali! To best assist you, I've asked Kate Lee — the go-to makeup artist for starlets like Sienna Miller and Diane Kruger — for her expert advice:
Bronzers have changed a lot in the last year or so. Finally, companies are separating the need for shimmer and working in more tawny/apricot/peach shades that add a glow without actually looking tanned. Bronzer means just that — bronze, which is metallic. Most of the major trends this season and next are based around true pure shades, as adding shimmer to a product reflects light and takes the focus away from the actual color itself.
I would look for more realistic tanning colors — think about how amazing we all look after just one day out in the sun — and then try to recreate that by applying the tan where you actually do tan: the hairline, tops of cheekbones and the bridge of the nose. Maybe mix a creme tan product, such as Soleil Tan de Chanel, with a little of the new Nars Cheek Stick, make your own flush and let your natural beauty shine through. And, if you do want shimmer, choose a separate product and carefully place it where it looks flattering.
