Move over headbands! Though we did spot one banded beauty (Heather Lindt), updos (in the form of braids and textured power coifs) ruled the red carpet at the 2012 SAG Awards.

Some of my favorite looks included those of Dianna Agron and Kaley Cuoco (both with braids wrapped around the crown) and Amber Heard and Julie Bowen (who reached new heights with teased toppers).

I've indulged countless hair trends over the years — chunky streaks, the "Rachel," milkmaid braids — but have never had the guts to try an avant-garde cut or color, like Kelly's cropped lilac look. (Which actually kind of suits her, don't you think?)

2009 showcased a number of questionable beauty trends, with low-riding headbands, "skunk streaks" and extra-long nail extensions topping my list.

Which beauty trends would you banish for the new year?

A bad dye job, overplucked brows, the wrong shade of lipstick— With time, we often realize that what we thought to be hot was actually a hot mess.

My biggest beauty regret? A poodle-esque perm in high school. That, paired with my multi-colored braces, made for quite the look. (One that will never be shared online, thank you.)

Of course, celebrities aren't immune to such embarrassments either. Kim Kardashian tells Allure magazine: "I used to do heavy, heavy painted brows— too dark a pencil and too filled in." Adding,"What I should have been doing was using a lighter color than my brows. Now I use a light brown pencil and only kind of fill my brows in."
