"Mommyrexia" on the Rise

Posted by babu 2:04pm GMT

Splash News

Silvete moms-to-be Victoria Beckham and January Jones are reportedly influencing a troubling trend amongst expectant women called "mommyrexia" (or "pregorexia"), which is when one gains very little during pregnancy with the intention of rapidly shedding weight immediately after giving birth — by any means possible.

Scary, no? Pregnancy and weight-loss should not coexist!

Recreate January Jones' striking, retro-inspired look from Sunday's Golden Globes with these expert tips & tricks:

The Hair: Strong & Smooth

Stylist Renato Campora explains: "I was inspired by the styles of the 1960’s, which I believe is one of the most striking decades for beauty. This look channels old Hollywood glamor, with a modern twist that is full of volume and timeless elegance.

On wet hair, I began by applying Fekkai Advanced Full Blown Styling Whip to create volume and Fekkai Coiff Contrôle Ironless Straightening Balm to smooth. I then parted the hair to the side and blow dried using a round brush.

Next, to create waves, I put January's hair in hot rollers and let them sit for 10 minutes. Once removed, I brushed through the hair to create volume and help to construct shape for the style. To finish her look, I misted Fekkai Coiff Sheer Hold Hairspray for all night hold. "

The Makeup: Supermodel Strong

Makeup artist Rachel Goodwin explains: "January's look was all about strength - there was nothing demure about it! I wanted to go for a super strong brow, and a high gloss red lip. 90's supermodel meets old Hollywood glamour!

The makeup was simple with two strong elements. I prepped her skin with CHANEL Sublimage Concentrate. I then sculpted her cheeks with CHANEL Bronzing Makeup Base.

On her lids, I used a wash of champagne colored shadow, CHANEL Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Liberty. I created a strong, bold defined brow with the CHANEL Perfect Brows palette, and applied two coats of CHANEL Inimitable Intense Mascara in Noir.

Finally, I knew I wanted to go for a glossy red lip as opposed to a matte red, to keep the look fresh and not too retro. I used an amazing red gloss, CHANEL Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss in Excess, to complete January’s strong red carpet look."

Makeup artist Rachel Goodwin shares how she created January Jones' latest look:

"For January's makeup I was inspired by Irving Penn's iconic photos of his wife/supermodel Lisa Fonssagrives, whose signature extended eyeliner symbolizes the epitome of elegance. I used ultra-feminine colors with super sculptural liner for a cool update on that classic late '50s silhouette.

First, I used CHANEL Liquid Eyeliner in Noir along the lash line for an exaggerated cat-eye effect, adding extra lashes on just the very outer edges for added length. I then applied two coats of inimitable CHANEL Inimitable Intense Mascara in Noir on the top lashes and one coat of CHANEL Inimitable Intense Mascara in Purple on the bottom lashes.

The rest of the face I kept understated, using minimal foundation, pale pink cream cheek color and CHANEL Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss in Confidence on her lips. I finished the look by dusting her brow bone and lids with a loose iridescent pearl shadow with a hint of purple to play off the super reflective quality of her dress."

Recreate the "Mad Men" star's latest look with this step-by-step guide, courtesy of celebrity stylist Thomas Dunkin:

1. Starting with damp hair, saturate strands from root to tip with Sebastian Professional Volupt Spray.

2. Tousle hair with fingers while blow-drying to work in volume to maintain a look of “yesterday” texture.

3. Once dry, run hands through hair while spraying Sebastian Professional Re-Shaper throughout for added texture and hold.

4. Randomly select pieces to set with a curling iron for another dousing of texture.

5. Section off hair starting at the top slightly to the right of center.

6. With each section, apply a dab of Sebastian Professional Matte Putty and twist the hair from front to nape making sure to keep a random, textured effect.

7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 across the whole head, securing each section with clear Blax bands and bobby pins.

8. Massage the hair over the whole head, pulling slightly, for a disheveled finish with a modern twist.

Expert Advice: Weatherproof Your Look

Posted by babu 4:07pm GMT

Steve Granitz/WireImage

The stars at Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards managed to look impeccable despite the rain— thanks, of course, to the countless stylists, artists and assistants waiting in the wings.

Since most of us don't have a 24/7 beauty team on speed dial, I've enlisted the expertise of celebrity makeup artist Christopher Drummond— who's beautified the likes of Jennifer Lopez and January Jones— as well as hairstylist Philip Pelusi, to help us weather any storm in style:

Makeup Tips
— If it is raining the day of a special event, stay away from liquid foundation, which has a tendency to “melt” and not last as long.
— Add a little more makeup than you normally would for all products to prepare for the fact that some makeup will come off due to bad weather. Be sure to add layers to your foundation.
— Use water resistant products, such as Christopher Drummond Beauty products like Veludo Velvet Foundation and Finale Finishing Powder.

Hair Tricks
— Check the weather report a few days in advance so you can plan to wear your hair up or down. If rain is in the forecast, plan ahead to wear your hair either all up or half up and half down.
— Pulling hair into an updo or half-upsweep is the best strategy to stay looking good in rainy conditions because hair is already curled, pinned and sprayed in place.
— If it gets rained on a bit, hair can simply air dry in place, and it is also easier to keep an updo dry under an umbrella.
— If you wear your hair down and are caught by surprise, make sure to bring a small emergency kit in your purse to a special event with a few hair pins, a ponytail holder and a small purse size hair spray.
— If hair gets wet, go for a quick style change. Pull hair back into the ponytail and wrap hair around the ponytail holder and secure into place with the hair pins. Mist with spray.
