Beyonce's beauty empire has just expanded to include a self-titled cosmetology center, which aims to help men and women in treatment for substance abuse at the Phoenix House prepare for careers in cosmetology with a seven-month training course.
"I felt like [Phoenix House] needed something that was geared towards women — something that would teach them skills that would give them hope even after the Phoenix House," Beyoncé explains of her decision to fund their beauty school, which is co-sponsored by L'Oréal.
Her mother, Tina, also owned and operated a salon in Houston. "I saw that a salon was a place for women to socialize, share stories, cry, laugh and get advice," Beyoncé continues. "Most importantly, I saw the joy it brought my mother, knowing she was a part of their transformation."
