4 Easy Ways to Wear Curly Hair

Pinned Ponytail
Start by using a smoothing cleanser and conditioner, then simply side-part your hair and allow to air dry (or diffuse); scrunching curls occasionally. Once dry, smooth and define your locks with shine serum and secure to one side with an excess of pins.

Contrasting Updo
A two-textured look is an easy way to be on-trend and out the door in a matter of minutes. (We use Bumble & bumble Gellac to achieve a slick, shiny finish, like Alicia's.)

Semi-Smooth Waves
Frizz is in this season, but there remains a fine line between voluminous curls and toaster-in-the-tub. To keep your tresses in check, allow your hair to dry naturally — or sleep on it — then select random sections of hair and curl loosely with an iron, and finish with a light mist of hairspray. (We adore Neil George Perfect Hold Hairspray.) Once the styled sections have cooled, run your fingers through to blend the two textures.

Side-Swept Braid
A favorite of stars like Rachel McAdams, Selena Gomez & Nicole Richie, this forgiving spring style works with everything from your favorite boyfriend jeans to a formal evening gown.

Get the Look: Alicia Keys' Voluminous Updo

Celebrity stylist Ric Pipino shares his step-by-step guide to achieving a voluminous updo, like Alicia Keys':

Step One: Prep Your Tresses
After shampoo and conditioning the hair, you need to prep. If hair is naturally curly, try Revolution In Cut Curl Me creme to enhance and define the natural curl and to prevent frizz. For fine, straight hair, use Revolution In Cut Lift Me spray to add volume.

Step Two: Lift Your Locks
Blow-dry the hair, getting as much lift from the roots as possible to create added volume. For naturally curly hair, use your fingers to lift the hair directly up from the root. For fine, straight hair, use a flat brush to lift the hair.

Step Three: Create Texture
Once the hair is dry, use ½ inch and ¾ inch curling irons to curl the hair. Section the hair in 1-inch sections, then curl each section directly to the root, alternating the different size curling irons with each section throughout the entire head. Do not brush out hair during this process. To hold the curl, spray each section with hairspray.

Step Four: Brush & Band
Once the hair is completely curled, using a Mason and Pearson brush, loosely lift the curl out, creating as much volume as possible. Then pull the hair directly back, parallel to your ear. Hold with a taut headband, or pin the hair, to the point most desirable for the shape of your face in order to enhance your jawline and facial features. Using a wide-tooth comb, slightly back-comb the hair in the back to your desired width. Hold the look with hairspray.

Recreate Alicia Keys' intricate updo with this step-by-step guide, compliments of celebrity stylist Tippi Shorter:

Step One: Cleanse & Protect
After cleansing and conditioning Alicia’s hair, Tippi sprayed Pantene Pro-V Detangling Light Conditioning Spray for added protection from heat styling. It also helped smooth Alicia's hair as Tippi blow-dried with a Mason Pearson brush.

Step Two: Divide & Conquer
Tippi wanted to recreate the backward Mohawk braid that she did for Alicia’s most recent music video, so she first sectioned the hair into three sections, front to back.

Step Three: Pony Up
Next, she gathered the two outermost sections of Alicia's hair and secured it in a ponytail using Ojon Animated Styling Cream.

Step Four: Tuck It In
Using the center section, Tippi started a braid from the nape all the way to the front, making it a little off center. She then tucked the end of the braid underneath the main braid and secured with bobby pins.

Step Five: Secure Your Style
To finish the look with strong hold, Tippi used Ojon Tunu Elastik Hairspray and Bed Head Headrush Shine Spray.

From Eva Longoria Parker to Tyra Banks and Mariska Hargitay, Saturday's White House Correspondents' dinner was overflowing with A-List attendees.

Naturally, updos were the style of choice for this annual fte, but a few leading ladies did surprise us by mixing things up. Natalie Portman, who's almost always pulled-back, looked beautiful in an elegant half-updo, and Demi Moore was a vision in cascading curls.

Whose hairstyle rocked the red carpet?
