Wake Up Gorgeous

Posted by babu 3:13pm GMT

Jason LaVeris/FilmMagic

Wish you could start each day with luminous, healthy-looking locks? Just follow these simple suggestions, courtesy of Tippi Shorter— the go-to stylist for stars like Alicia Keys, Rihanna, and Jennifer Hudson:

1. Trying to preserve your style at night is the best way to wake up gorgeous. If you have a blow out, you should try to pull the hair super smooth to the back and tie a cute little scarf on your hair to keep it smooth. In the morning, you can run a little Pantene Pro-V Smooth Anti Frizz Serum through your hair for shine and refreshing...

2. If you wear your hair in waves, you can spray a little curl/wave refresher in your hair at night and put your hair in 2 braids a la grade school and release them in the morning for beautiful waves.

3. For big beautiful waves, you can spray a little light hold hairspray like the Pantene Pro-V Classic Flexible Hold Hairspray in your hair at night and put hair in a top knot, release in the morning for big flowing waves.

4. To keep a short cut cute and edgy, just sleep on it and apply a texture paste (such as Pantene Pro-V Texture Sculpting Wax) to your hair in the morning and you’ve got your edgy ‘do.

Since I started using this product (about four weeks ago), the compliments have been rolling in. It's remarkable.

My hair feels healthier, is more resistant to breakage, and shining a bit brighter— all without added weight, or the need for more frequent cleansing.

Phyto's Phytodensium Mask is truly a must-have treatment for those with mature, colored, or heat-damaged tresses. (Basically everyone.)

Phyto Phytodensium Anti-Aging Mask, $38. Available online at Sephora.com.

How to Get the Most from At-Home Hair Treatments

Posted by babu 11:39am GMT

Conditioning treatments— whether homemade or store-bought— are a must for healthy-looking, lustrous hair. So to help us get the most out of every mask, serum, and oil out there, I've enlisted the expertise of Avon Global Stylist Advisor and 2007 North American Hairdresser of the Year, Allen Ruiz.

Allen's advice:

Squeeze It Out
“To get the most out of your treatment, make sure to squeeze excess water out of hair prior to applying,” explains Ruiz. “If hair is completely saturated with water, the treatment can’t effectively penetrate hair.”

Shock Your Locks

“After applying your treatment, rinse hair with cooler water to help seal the cuticle and lock the treatment benefits into hair,” says Ruiz.

Mix It Up
“It’s critical to mix up your treatment routine,” Ruiz says. “I recommend that all of my clients use an Instant Recharge Treatment at least once a week— it really makes a difference in the look and feel of your hair.”

The Wild, the Wacky & the Regrettable

I don't know about you, but I've tried some crazy things on my quest for "perfect" hair.

I've ended showers with an ice cold rinse—in the dead of winter— to add shine, used raw egg as a reparative treatment, and even subjected my locks to a perm (after 1989).

What's the weirdest thing you've ever done to your tresses?

The Brazilian Blowout

Posted by babu 11:23am GMT

Todd Williamson/WireImage

Nicole Richie swears by them. Ashley Tisdale's a fan, and Lindsay Lohan's been known to rely on them as well.

So what exactly is a Brazilian Blowout?

According to a lead stylist at the Andy LeCompte Salon, the Brazilian Blowout differs from Japanese straightening and other Brazilian straighteners because it doesn't completely straighten the hair. The hair still has plenty of volume and body and can still be worn curly or wavy. It just softens whatever curl or wave you have. If the hair is air-dried without a blow dryer, it will still have wave or curl but no frizz. On the flip side, if you want to blow dry your hair straight, you can do that, without a brush, in a fraction of the amount of time it would have taken without the Brazilian. Also, with other methods, there is a line of demarcation, meaning that when new hair grows in, it is curly/ wavy while the rest of the hair is straight. This blowout method washes away with time and is diffused, so there is no noticeable difference between new hair and treated hair. Other methods also have harsh chemicals in them like formaldehyde. The Brazilian Blowout does not have formaldehyde in it. And none of the chemicals in it are carcinogenic. It's also safe for all hair types, including fine, brittle, and damaged.

Treatments take 1 to 1 1/2 hours to complete, and start at $350. To find a salon near you that offers Brazilian Blowouts, click here.

Current Obsession: Kérastase Noctogenist

Posted by babu 11:28am GMT

Source: Brand

I've been a longtime fan of Kérastase, and this latest innovation just confirms their commitment to excellence.

Noctogenist is comprised of two overnight treatments that target different hair types. Voile Nuit ($65) offers protection and restoration for fine hair in the form of a lightweight spray, while Sérum Nuit ($65) provides intense treatment for thicker, coarser hair.

What makes these products so special? Both formulations feature an exclusive technology that combines essential amino acids (to keep hair looking healthy and vibrant) and vitamin E to restore and protect the hair. Then, additionally, each formulation features individual technologies to target your specific hair type.

If you have normal to fine hair (like me), Noctogenist Voile Nuit will help protect against daily aggressors, impart a natural-looking radiance, and prevent breakage – all while maintaining body & bounce (which is key!). Now, if you have coarse or curly hair, Noctogenist Sérum Nuit can recharge your locks with an intense dose of moisture, help restore manageability and shine, and also protect against damage.

Talk about getting your beauty sleep! Noctogenist takes overnight treatments to a new level.
