Exclusive Interview with Naomi Watts

Posted by babu 9:59am GMT

Getty Images

Amidst a sea of beauty editors, brand execs and eager fans at Wednesday's P&G event, the ever-gracious Naomi Watts took a moment to chat with us about all things beauty:

You're here on behalf of Pantene, as the new spokesmodel for their Flat-to-Volume collection. But, by the looks of things, you've no trouble with volume. How do you achieve such body?

I have my good days and my bad days, but what I love about Pantene is that they recognize my hair type and allow me to work with it. There's no magic potion. With time, and a specified product regiment, my hair has transformed. In a healthy way.

What's your one must-have styling product?

In addition to the Flat-to-Volume products, I also use the brand's Triple Action Mousse. It's great on wet hair. Especially for low-maintenance kind of girls, like myself. I can maybe drag a hot iron through my hair, but that's about it. This really helps.

A recent Pantene study offers insight into the male psyche — and the results are rather surprising. Findings include:

The First Things Men Notice About Women
74% of men indicated that they notice women because of their hair and 44% of men surveyed said that hair is the first thing they notice about a woman, more than her clothes (26%), legs (25%), or makeup (4%).

The Key Elements of Attracting the Opposite Sex
Most men surveyed would be more likely to approach a woman at a bar with great hair than a woman wearing a low-cut shirt. 82% of men indicated that sexy hair is a key element to a woman’s overall sex appeal.

What to Do Before a Date
60% of men surveyed say they would rather date a woman with great hair than a woman with big breasts, and 78% of men surveyed consider healthy hair to be a turn-on.

Wake Up Gorgeous

Posted by babu 3:13pm GMT

Jason LaVeris/FilmMagic

Wish you could start each day with luminous, healthy-looking locks? Just follow these simple suggestions, courtesy of Tippi Shorter— the go-to stylist for stars like Alicia Keys, Rihanna, and Jennifer Hudson:

1. Trying to preserve your style at night is the best way to wake up gorgeous. If you have a blow out, you should try to pull the hair super smooth to the back and tie a cute little scarf on your hair to keep it smooth. In the morning, you can run a little Pantene Pro-V Smooth Anti Frizz Serum through your hair for shine and refreshing...

2. If you wear your hair in waves, you can spray a little curl/wave refresher in your hair at night and put your hair in 2 braids a la grade school and release them in the morning for beautiful waves.

3. For big beautiful waves, you can spray a little light hold hairspray like the Pantene Pro-V Classic Flexible Hold Hairspray in your hair at night and put hair in a top knot, release in the morning for big flowing waves.

4. To keep a short cut cute and edgy, just sleep on it and apply a texture paste (such as Pantene Pro-V Texture Sculpting Wax) to your hair in the morning and you’ve got your edgy ‘do.

Get the Look: Kristen Stewart's (Faux) Bob

Posted by babu 6:27pm GMT

Kevin Mazur/WireImage

Celebrity stylist Hallie Bowman was the mastermind behind Kristen Stewart's edgy, yet elegant 'do at Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards, surprising us all by transforming the "Twilight" star's shag to a chic (faux) bob.

Hallie's 6-step method for achieving Kristen's look:

Step One: Cleanse & Condition
First, Hallie started by shampooing and conditioning Kristen’s hair with a moisturizing formula to create a good base for styling.

Step Two: Shape [Optional]
She began by cutting bangs to create roundness around the cheekbones, a look that is complimentary of her heart-shape face.

Step Three: Prime
Hallie applied the Pantene Pro-V Volume Root Lifter Gel from root to tip to begin building volume, as well as the Pantene Pro-V Texture Spray Wax to make hair more malleable for styling.

Step Four: Create Volume
Then, she blow dried Kristen’s hair while brushing it away from the scalp, periodically flipping her hair over to ensure lots of volume at the crown.

Step Five: Strategically Pin & Place
Hallie then pinned sections of her hair back with bobby pins to secure it away from the face, leaving some pieces around the face to give the illusion of a bob with bangs– a nod to the bowl cut, but with a modern feel.

Step Six: Shine On
To polish off the look, Hallie used Pantene Pro-V Smooth Serum for long lasting shine.

Expert Advice: Gray Hair

Posted by babu 1:43pm GMT

Mike Marsland/WireImage

Whether you think going gray is a blessing or a curse, it's an inevitable fact of life. So to help care for (or cover) those "strands of wisdom," I've enlisted the expertise of Pantene celebrity stylist Danilo:

Boost Shine.
Women don’t have to be afraid to let their natural gray come through. Shiny, gray hair paired with a strong style/cut it can be stunning… Think Helen Mirran. If you decide to go gray-natural, use a non-color depositing shampoo and conditioner, like Pantene Pro-V Silver Expressions Shampoo & Conditioner, twice a week, to remove dulling residues and restore luster. Gray hair is one of the most difficult hair colors to duplicate and if treated properly, a woman with gray hair can really be a rare beauty.

Keep It Short.
Keep gray hair styled at a mid to shorter length, to help prevent breakage and keep hair looking sleek and healthy. If hair is too long, it can wash out your face and make you look older. A geometric cut with sharp, clean lines gives women a cleaner, more modern look. Also, it allows for a style to be cut into hair, making styling a much simpler process.

Replenish Lost Moisture.
Gray hair tends to be dry and in need of moisture, so nourish your tresses daily with intensive products like Pantene Pro-V Moisture Renewal Shampoo & Conditioner.

Regain Control.
Gray hair can grow in a completely different way than hair that has a (naturally) colored pigment. Gray hair can be fine or frizzy and coarse. So it's important to keep hair conditioned and use protective stylers. To help hair withstand styling damage, while adding additional volume, apply a dollop of mousse from the roots to the tips of damp hair. Then blow dry hair in sections using a mixed-bristle brush to lift it up and out when blow drying.

Opt for Natural Colorants.
If you choose to color gray hair, you do not need to use chemicals. Naturally based colors/stains are actually kinder to hair, leaving it less coarse. One of the wonderful things about staining gray hair is that gray hair doesn’t grow in as one shade, it has different salt & pepper strands, so when color goes coats these strands, complimentary hi/lo lights are created. And this effect appears to be much more evident when using non-chemical colors.

Lighten Up.
When choosing a color to go over gray, pick the color you want and go one shade lighter. Lighter hair tends to look a bit more natural and can make roots less noticeable as they grow in.
