Oribe on Styling Halle Berry's Vogue Cover Look

Posted by babu 12:57pm GMT

Vogue

Celebrity stylist Oribe dishes on Halle Berry's bold, retro-inspired bob:

The Inspiration
"Halle had never worn her hair in this type of style, and I was very interested in doing something different. I was inspired by the clothes for the shoot, which had an Art Deco influence. I also referenced the film "The Professional" with Natalie Portman. She was only about 13 at the time, and she had this great little bob that looked so perfect. I wanted Halle’s hair to be very sharp and direct in that same way and not at all bulky. The idea was to get flat, straight hair with soft, movable bangs to create interest."

At the Salon
"If you want to request this style, you can tell your hairdresser you want a shorter bob. The key is that it needs to be tailored to each person, by changing the length of the bangs, for example. The whole style is about simplicity and strength…it’s actually a bit severe in its strength. Anyone can wear this style, and your hairstylist should help you modify it to work with your features and lifestyle."

How to Style
"To get-the-look, first blow-dry hair straight using Oribe Royal Blowout. Next, apply Soft Lacquer Heat Styling Spray to the hair shaft, and use a flat iron all over. Soft Lacquer imparts a beautiful shine and a smooth finish. As a last step, smooth any stray hairs with a flat brush to perfect the look, which has more or less no volume."

Get the Look: Sienna Miller's Sexy Waves

Posted by babu 3:40pm GMT

Asadorian-Mejia/Splash

Crave tousled, beachy waves like Sienna's? They're easy to achieve. Just follow these simple steps, courtesy of the stylist behind her latest look— Kevin Mancuso:

The Look:
Hair is worn down with loose, bohemian-chic waves.

Prep:
Enhance your natural texture by applying a volumizing or curling mousse, such as Nexxus Mousse Plus or Nexxus Gorgeous Curls, at the root and spreading to the ends.

Next, flip your head over and blow hair around while massaging the roots with your finger tips. This will help build texture into the style.

Style:
Once dry, flip head back up and brush out to remove major tangles. Then create a center part, and smooth out the top 1/3 of hair with fingers.

Next, tilt your head to side and taking random sections of hair drag medium curling iron down to ends. This action helps to create long, loose, uneven waves. Let the natural fluff come through for an of-the-moment look.

Finish:
Finish this look with a misting of a light hold hairspray, like Nexxus Comb Thru. It will help maintain the look on and off the red carpet, while allowing the movement of the style to shine through.

Keira Knightley for Vogue: Love It or Hate It?

Posted by babu 9:48pm GMT

I adore Keira Knightley and consider myself to be a lifetime addict of Vogue (be it American, French or Italian), but this cover is simply... Off.

Their September issue is usually powerful, provocative and grand, but this attempt (or lack thereof) is none of those things. It's quite the opposite, really.

September '08 seems to miss the mark in so many areas. Keira's hair (!), her makeup, that backdrop... If it weren't for the bold Balenciaga separates, I might have mistaken this magazine for another publication.

What do you think of Keira's look on the cover of Vogue's September issue (shot by Mario Testino): Love it or hate it?
