Q: My hair grows so slowly, even though I trim every 6 weeks, take multivitamins, and use really good shampoos and conditioners. I also use a leave-in treatment every morning and at night. What can I do to make my hair grow faster? Depressed over the same hair length for 5 years.

A: Thank you for your question, Renee! I've asked Ammon Carver, Vavoom Creative Director, for his expert advice:
First, let me say that you're doing all of the right things! It's important to remember that healthy, fast growing hair is not just result of good topical product selection (although that's half of it!). The multi-vitamins that you are taking are perfect to aid in the growth. Quality, professional shampoos, conditioners and styling products are essential to making sure your hair is treated, protected and nourished. I recommend Sleek.look Miracle Reconstructor to treat your hair weekly, Vavoom Gold Heat Blow-In Control to protect from daily styling damage, and Biolage Rejuvatherapie Shampoo and Conditioner to replenish vital nutrients to the hair. If you're not healthy, your hair can be one of the first things to show it!
A few additional tips to help boost growth:
Obviously, a healthy diet (not just multivitamins) is essential to keeping your locks long, but regular exercise is just as important. The increased blood flow to the skin surface that happens when you workout will keep the hair follicles healthy and stimulated...keeping them from going dormant. Eat well and exercise!
Another thing you can do to give your hair follicles a little extra encouragement is to pull your hair back into a ponytail/bun or braid on a regular basis. The gentle, constant pulling of the hair will give added stimulation to the hair follicles, helping keep them healthy and active. Just make sure to use a soft, gentle rubber band to secure the hair without breaking it. You should change the pony placement too (ex: low-set bun one day, high ponytail another day) to ensure that the pressure from the band isn't wearing in the same place all of the time.
