Reese Witherspoon: Love It or Hate It?

Reese has always been a bit conservative in her look, but she's taken it to a new level with this basic bob. I don't find it to be a very flattering cut for her face shape or her figure...

What do you think of Reese's new ‘do’?

Put Your Best Face Forward

Posted by babu 12:39pm GMT

Whether you're a fan of the local SuperCuts or a client of an A-List superstylist, the success of a haircut can be measured by how well it suits your face. Not minding this simple fact can result in all sorts of wig-worthy mishaps.

To ensure you've got the cut best suited to your face shape (Or will, after reading this!), I've enlisted the help of a few choice celebrity stylists to guide us.

A Round Face

If your face shape resembles that of Cameron Diaz, Oprah Winfrey, or Catherine Zeta-Jones, Seiji Kitazato suggests:

Do:

  • Favor longer hair to minimize the roundness of your face.
  • Go for short cut only if you keep the back longer than the front, with a little height on top.

Don't:

  • Opt for short cuts if your hair is curly, as this will only emphasize the roundness of your face.
  • Get heavy bangs, as they tend to add weight to the face. Try side swept bangs instead.

An Oval Face

If you have a similar shape to Beyoncé Knowles, Terri Hatcher, or Jessica Alba, Mario Russo recommends:

Do:

  • Wear layers the length of your best features (Eyes, cheekbones, lips) to highlight these areas and make them standout.
  • Add volume to the top of the head.

Don't:

  • Wear short layers or spikes that add height to your face, without having fullness on the sides, as your head will appear too long.
  • Opt for a blunt cut if you have thick and/or curly hair, as it can look pyramid-like.

A Heart-Shaped Face

If your face shape is like that of Reese Witherspoon, Sophie Dahl, or Jennifer Lopez, Rodney Cutler recommends:

Do:

  • Opt for Long, loose, layered cuts with longer bangs.
  • Be sure to get soft layers, and keep the base longer than the jaw, if you try a bob.

Don't:

  • Taper the hair at the nape of the neck, as it will accentuate your chin.
  • Get short, round bangs as they're are not flattering to your face shape.

A Square-Shaped Face

If the shape of your face is similar to Demi Moore, Angelina Jolie, or Rosario Dawson, Rolando Beauchamp suggests:

Do:

  • Elongate the look of the face by maintaining a length that is past the shoulders. Light layers that start below the chin create movement and ensure that long hair doesn't become too bottom-heavy.
  • Try a sexy, long side-swept bang that keeps a hairstyle interesting without shortening the face.

Don't:

  • Go for a chin-length bobs, which will draw the eye outward, accentuating the square look and widening the face.
  • Add weight to the hairstyle with thick, straight bangs — they'll make the face look heavier as a whole. This look also shortens the face, accentuating a square chin.

Trend Report: The Braid

Posted by babu 12:43pm GMT

From the runway to the red carpet, it seems like
everywhere you turn this season there's a starlet sporting braids. It's quite a
romantic look, and perfect for warm weather.

My favorite thing about this trend is that can be incorporated into any hairstyle, day or night. Try adding a braid or two to soft, tousled hair in the daytime, then pull everything back and bobby-pin it into a messy chignon for the evening (like Nicole models above). It's a mirror-optional look that's simple and modern.

Gwyneth Paltrow: Love It or Hate It?

Posted by babu 12:59pm GMT

If Gwyneth Paltrow is known for anything (Well, aside from the gorgeous men, that Oscar, and those interesting baby names...), it's her hair. That long, Rapunzel-esque mane of platinum blonde has become synonymous with Gwyneth. That is, until recently.

She's just cropped her lengthy locks in favor of a shorter ‘do’, and I have to say that I'm loving this new look. It's much lighter, and makes Gwyneth seem younger, more approachable, and a little less serious.
