49 New Hair Ideas for 2009

Need a new look for the new year? Whether you're stuck in a rut or simply love to switch things up, be sure check out Allure Magazine's 49 Hair Ideas for 2009. It's a slideshow full of tricks/tips on how to get major results with minimal commitment.

A few of my personal favorites:

Secure a Ponytail with a Barrette
It gives a looser result than an elastic. To create this style, spritz dry roots with volumizer and massage through with your fingers for a bit of lift, then wrap the ends of the hair around a curling iron. Clip hair back loosely just below the nape of your neck in a tortoiseshell barrette.

Switch Sides
Add instant volume at the end of the day simply by changing your part. Flipping it to the opposite side not only gives you more lift at the roots, but it also helps you achieve a different look—without a trip to the hair salon.

Shine On
The right brush can make hair look glossier by simply spreading out your hair's natural oils. Choose a paddle brush if you want smooth, straight hair, or a round one for hair that's fluffy and full—and always go with all boar or boar plus synthetic bristles for maximum shine.

Get the Look: Sandra Bullock's Side-Swept Updo

How beautiful did Sandra Bullock look at The Globes? Her romantic, side-swept hair was both alluring and age-appropriate.

Celebrity stylist Jeanie Syfu was the mastermind behind Sandra's 'undone' bun, and below she shares her secrets for achieving this look:

First, start off by blow-drying your hair with TRESemmé Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Spray to protect and add shine.

Next, curl pieces your hair using a 1" curling iron, alternating with a 1/2" curling iron to create an "S" wave pattern throughout your tresses.

Once texture is created, work in TRESemmé Anti-Frizz Secret Smoothing Crème through your hair to add shine and definition.

Finally, part your hair off to the side, and pull into a low bun just behind the ear, leaving a few soft waves to frame the face.

And that's it!

Get the Look: Eva Longoria Parker's Golden Globes Updo

I thought Eva's updo at Sunday's Golden Globes Awards was spot-on, so I went straight to the mastermind behind her chic chignon— celebrity stylist Ken Paves— to find out how we can recreate this look at home.

The inspiration:

“Overall, the feeling I wanted to create for the Globes was glamour done effortlessly - beauty that is undone, untried, and truly each woman's own. There is nothing chicer than a woman who looks effortless! My inspiration was Ally McGraw from the early 70's. Sometimes, my favorite time with my clients is when they are in the fitting room, trying on their gown and their hair is just casually tossed up.", says Ken.

Get the look:

To achieve Eva's elegant updo, Ken began on towel-dried hair and added just a few drops of Healthy Hair Shine Serum. Then, he parted her hair down the middle and blow-dried it straight with a Mason Pearson Mixed Bristle Brush, and went over it again with a flat iron as well.

Next, Ken pulled Eva's hair low and tight and tied it with a hooked elastic band. He enhanced the glamour with more shine using the Shine Serum. Ken wanted her hair to look clean and classic but not too severe, so he left some texture around the hairline, adding the effortless aspect of the finished look.

Ken then wrapped some of her hair around the base of the ponytail for a seamless finish, and completed the look with the Healthy Hair Strong Hold Shaping Spray.

And voilà, that's it!
