Get the Look: Nicole Kidman's Romantic Waves

Posted by babu 10:39am GMT

Getty Images

Recreate Nicole Kidman's ACM Awards look with this step-by-step guide, courtesy of celebrity stylist David Babaii:

"Beginning with a clean canvas and applying Couture Colour Pequi Oil Treatment from roots to ends, I gently rough-dried the hair, moving my hands in various directions to create natural texture and volume.

Once dry, I fashioned a side part and divided Nicole's tresses into 4 sections (sides, top & nape). Starting at the nape area, I took 1" sections throughout the head, applying additional Pequi Oil to each. To create summer waves, I then wrapped each section around 2 fingers, forming a barrel-type curl, pinning each with a bobby pin to the back of the head. When all hair was curled and secured, I took my blow dryer and gave each wrapped curl a blast of hot air to allow the Pequi Oil to penetrate into the hair shaft for hold, followed by a blast of cool air to set the curls. I love this technique, as it allows me the ability to control the size of each curl.

Finally, I removed all the clips and added additional Pequi Oil to my hands and finger-combed Nicole's hair into soft summer waves that highlighted the richness of her hair color."

Get the Look: Taylor Swift's Winged Eye

Posted by babu 12:36pm GMT

Celebrity makeup artist Lorrie Turk shares how she achieved Taylor Swift's dramatic lash line for the 46th annual Academy of Country Music Awards:

"The inspiration for the look was classic old Hollywood. She looked so beautiful in her dress with her natural look, we didn’t want to create anything too bold for her makeup, just complement the look nicely. Because Taylor’s performance at the show required a quick change, we had to create a look that would be able to transition from the red carpet to the performance and back again fairly easily.

I started with her foundation. I used COVERGIRL NatureLuxe Silk Foundation followed by COVERGIRL Classic Color Blush in Blush Rose on the apples of her cheeks for a fresh-faced glow.

To create her winged eye, I used COVERGIRL LiquilineBlast in Black Fire and then swept COVERGIRL Eye Enhancers 1-Kit Shadow in Tapestry Taupe from the lash line to the crease, followed by COVERGIRL Eye Enhancers 1-Kit Shadow in Champagne on the brow bone and in the inner corners of her eyes for a subtle sparkle. I finished the eye with COVERGIRL LashBlast Fusion in Black for lots of full, long lashes.

On her lips, we wanted a nice rose color, so I applied COVERGIRL LipPerfection lipcolor in Soulmate. The look was overall timeless, but still fresh and young."

Get the Look: Uma Thurman's Bohemian Updo

You comment, we listen. Celebrity stylist David Babaii gives us The Scoop on how he achieved the "Ceremony" star's latest look:

"'French Bohemian' was the inspiration for Uma's updo. To create, I first prepared her freshly washed and conditioned hair by massaging a dime size amount of Couture Colour Pequi Oil Treatment into her tresses from roots to ends, combing it through with a wide tooth comb for even distribution.

Next, I used a blow dryer to dry the hair with a large round brush, lifting the root area for added volume and cupping the ends under for a smooth, rounded finish. After drying, I applied an additional amount of Pequi Oil for control and then loosely gathered the hair with my fingers and braiding it into a long, loose braid down the center back. I secured it with a rubber band while leaving the shorter top and side layers free.

To finish, I created soft loose curls with a 1 ½" curling iron by taking large sections and wrapping them around the inside barrel, holding for a few seconds. I then released, allowing the curls to fall naturally to achieve a true French Bohemian look."

Get the Look: Halle Berry's Picture-Perfect Complexion

Posted by babu 12:55pm GMT

Celebrity makeup artist Kara Yoshimoto Bua shares how she achieved Hally Berry's latest red-carpet look:

"Halle's Oscars makeup was inspired by the lightness and shimmer of her Marchesa nude crystal and tulle strapless gown. We played up her eyes with warm browns instead of blacks, keeping them shimmery and soft edged while defining them by smoking them up and lining the inner eye. For this, I used Revlon Luxurious Smoky Eye Pencil in Brown Smoky, and Revlon Custom Eyes Mascara in Black.

Halle's base was a mixture of three CHANEL Mat Lumiere Matte Fluid Makeup shades - Honey, Walnut and Chestnut. To balance out the smoky eye, but to still keep her look healthy and fresh, I used peaches that are soft enough yet with enough color. I applied CHANEL Powder Blush in Horizon on her cheeks, a warm glowing peach.

Finally, I lined her lips with CHANEL Precision Lip Definer in Peche, a peach tone that has just enough brightness and definition, and applied CHANEL Glossimer in Petit Peche."

Get the Look: Hilary Swank's Oscars Hair & Makeup

Posted by babu 12:38pm GMT

 Getty Images

Recreate Hilary Swank's ethereal beauty look from the 83rd annual Academy Awards with this step-by-step guide:

The Hair: Grace-ful Texture

Stylist Robert Vetica explains: “My inspiration was the romantic, elegant styles worn by Hollywood film icon Grace Kelly, though this is very modern, not retro in any way. Simple and sleek at the sides, most of the volume was at the back of the head, and I created a different kind of chignon that was asymmetrical made with three interwoven sections of hair. I wanted the hair to look smooth and luminous, as if there was no product in it, and used shine-enhancing styling products to finish. We accented the final look with Anna Hu platinum and diamond earrings that were worn in the hair.

To create this style, I first blow-dried Hilary’s hair with Moroccanoil Treatment. It’s a natural choice for this look as it's lightweight and conditioning, absorbs instantly into the hair without weighing it down and gives a deep, natural-looking shine. It would also protect the hair when I used a curling iron on it later. After curling small sections to give the hair a bit of wave and texture, I separated the hair from ear to ear below the crown and pulled it back. Next I backcombed this entire back section for volume and sprayed it for a soft, natural hold with Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray. I lightly brushed through on the surface and put this section in a loose ponytail and secured it.

I then lightly teased the sides and backcombed the top section above the crown, with more attention to the root. I sprayed Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray on this area as well, and unified the two sections. I made a tight ponytail at the base of the crown. Then, because I had so much hair to work with, I took three sections, sprayed each one again and interwove them to create an asymmetrical chignon. I emphasized more volume and secured the chignon slightly to the left of center.

Finally, I pinned the platinum and diamond hair accessories asymmetrically, one on each side of the chignon. The first slightly above the ear, and the other slightly below the ear on the opposite side. To finish, I gave the entire style a light spray of Moroccanoil Glimmer ShineSpray."

The Makeup: Modern Pearl

Makeup artist Monika Blunder explains: “I wanted to really play up Hilary’s eyes and I used her gorgeous Gucci Premiere couture dress with beautiful shades of grey and satin as my color inspiration.

To create the soft but colorful eye look, I blended silvery colors across the eye and then opened up the eyes by using CoverGirl LiquilineBlast in Silver Spark close to the top and bottom lash line. I used the darker colors on the outside of the eye lid and then the lighter, silver colors in the inside, using CoverGirl Smoky ShadowBlast in Onyx Smoke to bring out the silver shades of her dress. I then curled the lashes (ten second hold on each eye) and added stunning volume with CoverGirl LashBlast Volume in Very Black.

To complement Hilary’s eyes, I created a matte, flawless face and peachy cheeks for an overall soft look. I used a feathered blush brush to apply CoverGirl Simply Ageless Sculpting Blush in Plush Peach in a circular motion to the apples of the cheeks. This creates a very soft, luminous look.

For the lips, I went with a very natural look, using CoverGirl NatureLuxe Gloss Balm in Sandstone to add a pretty flush of luxurious color."

Get the Look: Gwyneth Paltrow's Head-to-Toe Glow

Posted by babu 1:33pm GMT

 WireImage

Achieve a head-to-toe glow with these behind-the-scenes beauty secrets from the celebrity stylist and makeup artist responsible for Gwyneth Paltrow's latest look:

Skin: Supplements & Self-Tanner

To keep her skin looking luminous (and waist trim) for red-carpet events, the "Country Strong" star has been known to use GliSODin Skin Nutrients Advanced Daily and Detoxification formulas. In addition, makeup artist Leslie Lopez applied St. Tropez Wash Off Body Mousse on her arms and legs, as well as St. Tropez Gold Skin Illuminator on her cheek bones, chest and shoulders, to further enhance Gwyneth's radiance.

Makeup: Kelly with a Twist

Lopez explains: "Gwyneth is very regal looking, she reminds me of Grace Kelly. Her dress was a gorgeous gold Calvin Klein gown. I wanted her to look classic and beautiful, and at the same time approachable.

To begin, I prepped her skin with CHANEL Sublimage Essential Regenerating Cream, then used CHANEL Vitalumiere Fluid Makeup in Beige as a base, and applied CHANEL Long-Lasting Concealer in Beige Ivoire.

On her eyes, I used CHANEL Fluid Iridescent Eyeshadow in Delta. I applied the shadow all over the lid, and then used CHANEL Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Trace in the crease. I then mixed the brown and taupe shades in CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Mystic Eyes around the eyelid. I lined the eyes with CHANEL Precision Eye Definer in Brun, and applied two coats of CHANEL Inimitable Masarca in Noir, concentrating on the outer corners to make the eyes pop.

To give a warmth to her skin, I used Soleil Tan de CHANEL in Terre Ambre. On the apples of her cheeks, I used CHANEL Tweed Blush Duo in Tweed Fuchsia.

For her lips I used CHANEL Rouge Coco Shine in Canotier (available in April), topped with CHANEL Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss in Insouciance.”

The Hair: Classic Gwyn

Stylist Harry Josh explains: “Gwyneth was my inspiration. She never tries to impress and her sophistication comes from within – a hairstyle shouldn't overshadow that. She's always had impeccably chic personal style and I wanted her hair to reflect that on the red carpet.

"To best achieve this, I started by having her use the new John Frieda Frizz-Ease 3-Day Straight (an at-home alternative to salon straightening treatments), to ensure super smooth, shiny hair that would stay straight all night long.

Next, I began by blowing out Gwyneth's hair with a Mason Pearson brush, carefully straightening each section at a time. I then went over each piece with a comb and a flat iron, ensuring every hair stayed sleek.

To finish, I gave her a center part and combed down all stray hairs and flyaways with the new John Frieda Full Repair Flyaway Tamer."

Get the Look: Anne Hathaway's Oscars Hair, Makeup & Nails

Posted by babu 10:36am GMT

Recreate Anne Hathaway's elegant, retro-inspired look with these expert tips & tricks:

The Hair: Red-Carpet Updo

Stylist Adir Abergel explains: "A modern take on an Edwardian influenced style accented with a bohemian flair; a soft, loose style with beautiful shine, is what I envisioned for Anne.

To achieve the same, begin by parting the hair down the center then apply Fekkai Advanced Full Blown Volume Styling Whip to the hair from roots ends. Blow-dry the hair using Fekkai Round Brush. Next, pull hair into a low ponytail at the nape of the neck, making sure to cover the ears. Then twist the ponytail into a loose knot. The key is keeping it loose for a touch of bohemian flair. It’s almost like a draping around the face with wispy pieces of hair coming out softly. Finish the look by spraying the Fekkai Coiff Sheer Hold Hairspray."
