Get the Look: Rachel Weisz's "Lovely" Lip

Posted by babu 12:36pm GMT

How radiant is Rachel Weisz at Monday's premiere of "The Lovely Bones"? Those eyes, that lip—
she looks absolutely flawless.

Below, CHANEL Celebrity Makeup Artist Kara Yoshimoto Bua shares how to recreate the actress's latest look:

On the Lips
I was inspired by the color of Rachel's dress, which was calling out for a perfectly red lip! I chose the semi-matte CHANEL Rouge Allure Laque in Dragon. I love this shade because it is a very pigmented blue true red, perfect with Rachel's fair skin, and can be worn very sheer yet give vivid color.

For the Eyes
I wanted shimmery soft eyes to be tonal with the color of the dress so as not to compete with the lips. CHANEL Quadra Eye Shadow in Murano has the most beautiful greenish-gray shimmers that accent Rachel's dark hair and brown eyes. CHANEL Inimitable Mascara in Noir-Black opens up her eyes by lengthening and separating her already thick lashes without any clumps!

On the Face
CHANEL Blush Duo Tweed Effect in Tweed Rose gives her a soft tint of color in the apples of her cheeks.

Get the Look: Blake Lively's Smoky Eye

Posted by babu 4:47pm GMT

Recreate Blake Lively's sexy, smoky eye from last night's CHANEL "Fête d'Hiver" Benefit with this step-by-step guide, courtesy of celebrity makeup artist Angela Levin:

"I was inspired by Blake's stunning CHANEL diamond Camelia brooch. I wanted her eyes to be dark and sexy, but the rest of her face to be light and fresh. She's young and sexy and wears a smoky eye so well!," says Levin.

On the Face
Levin used CHANEL Lift Lumiere Fluid Makeup in Beige all over Blake's face, and set it with CHANEL Poudre Cristalline Translucent Powder. On her cheeks, she dusted on CHANEL Blush Duo in Tweed Rose.

For the Eyes
For her eyes, Levin used the bronze and sand shades from the CHANEL Quadra Eye Shadow in Variations, and CHANEL Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Magic Night, a deep plum shade, to add dimension in the crease. She then lined the upper and lower lashes with CHANEL Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Black Shimmer, and finished the eyes with three coats of CHANEL Inimitable Mascara in Noir-Black.

On the Lips
Finally, Levin created a soft pink lip with CHANEL Rouge Allure in Mythic, a sheer nude, then topped with a bit of CHANEL Rouge Allure Laque in Ming.

Expert Advice: Smoky Eye

Posted by babu 3:41pm GMT

CHANEL unveiled their new, interactive Makeup Studio in NYC this week and, as you'd expect, it's absolutely gorgeous.

As part of the festivities, celebrity makeup artist Kate Lee— whose clients include Sienna Miller, Diane Kruger and Keira Knightley— was on hand to share the secrets behind her signature smoky eye. Below, a few of Kate's top tips:

Smoky ≠ Gray
A smoky eye doesn't have to be dark, nor does it have to be metallic. It's all in the application and technique, so don't be afraid to experiment with the finish and intensity.

Eyes First, Base Second
To avoid "raccoon eyes," create your smoky eye, then clean the area before applying your primer and/or foundation.

Always Blend Inward
Your eye shadow should fade/stop at the socket, so be sure to blend inward with a clean, soft brush. Blend outward and you risk extending the shadow too far.

Skip the Center
For a modern, youthful finish, resist the urge to apply a light(er) eye shadow in the center of your eyelids. Simply blend the eye shadow toward the center of your eye and allow some skin to peek through, or use a touch of sheer highlighter — like those included in the CHANEL Eye Gloss Quad — for added effect.

Line Below, Shade Above
Instead of applying eye shadow around the entire eye, simply define your lower lashes with a soft kohl eyeliner and finish with a touch of mascara on the base of your lashes (only).

Glitter Is Good
Glitter isn't an everyday go-to for most of us, but, when used correctly, it can (discreetly) draw attention to your eyes as it catches light. For best results, keep the sparkles close to your top lash line, and apply it in the same shade as your base shadow.

Play With Dimension
Use a matte eye shadow powder in the socket (this creates depth) and a subtle, shimmery powder on the spots you wish to bring forward, like the inner corners of the eye.

Stay Focused
To keep the focus on your eyes, pair this look with a natural brow, radiant complexion and barely-there lip.

Makeup Moves
If it's applied correctly, you shouldn't need to touch up your eye makeup throughout the day. A smoky eye only looks sexier as it shifts and settles, so there's no need to fuss. (If your eyelids tend to crease or get greasy, prime your skin with concealer and/or blotting paper.)

Current Obsession: CHANEL Les Folies Noirs Quad

Posted by babu 1:50pm GMT

Brand

Never one to conform to feminine ideals, Coco Chanel recognized the power of the color black, and helped make it the symbol of modernity, sophistication, and seduction, it is today.

In honor of her iconic sense of style, Peter Philips has created a tribute to Mademoiselle Chanel's favorite shade with an avant-garde collection of eye, lip, and nail shades, that work together to explore its many nuances and undertones.

And nowhere is black’s mystique more strikingly expressed than on the eyes. Use this shade quartet of deep green, mahogany, midnight blue and dark violet— embellished with the coveted CHANEL signature— to create a dramatic, yet sophisticated look.

Highly recommended.

Get the Look: Audrey Tautou at "Coco Before Chanel"

Posted by babu 3:21pm GMT

Duffy-Marie Arnoult/WireImage

I think we can all agree that Audrey Tautou looked absolutely flawless at last night's premiere of "Coco Before Chanel" in NYC. Her complexion, those lips. What's not to love?

Below, CHANEL Celebrity Makeup Artist Angela Levin describes how to get the look:

"Prep the skin with CHANEL Hydramax + Active Cream. Give it a couple of minutes to sink-in and, using a brush, apply CHANEL Teint Innocence Foundation (Audrey's shade is Cameo). Using the CHANEL Quadra Eye Shadow compact, apply the deep brown shade along the upper lash line with a thin brush. Use the lightest shade over the entire lid, and under brow bone. The lighter brown shade can then be blended in the crease in a half moon shape. To brighten the eyes and make them pop, use a brush and dab a bit of white cream shadow from the CHANEL Eye Gloss Luminous Cream Quadra Eye Shadow under the lash line. Finish the eyes with several coats of CHANEL Inimitable Mascara in Noir-Black.

Next, in a circular motion, apply CHANEL Powder Blush in Tempting Beige on the apple of the cheeks. Dust CHANEL Natural Finish Loose Powder under the cheekbones, and on the nose and forehead, leaving the cheeks a bit shiny.

Finally, for the lips, apply the new CHANEL Rouge Allure in Fatale for a bold, deep burgundy lip."
