Answer Me This: Hair Color & Sun Exposure

Posted by babu 10:31am GMT

How long should you stay out of the sun after your hair has been colored/highlighted? Also, are there preventive methods to maintaining your color once you do go outdoors?

- Kristin B., New York, NY.

Thank you for these great questions, Kristin! As hair color can be quite tricky, I've asked renowned
celebrity colorist Rita Hazan to answer your query:

From being everyone's Friend to surviving the most awkward Hollywood break-up ever, one thing has always remained constant — Nothing can cause Jennifer Aniston to have a bad hair day. She's simply immune.

Jen's gone big, blonde, short, long, straight, wavy, and even experimented with dread-like twists, managing somehow to start a major hair trend with every snip or style. It must feel like both a blessing and a curse.

Which of Jen's looks do you love the most?

Cameron Diaz Bares It All

Natalie Portman did it for "V for Vendetta" (and revived her look), Britney Spears used it as a form of therapy (no comment), and now Cameron Diaz is sporting a bald cap for her latest flick, "My Sister’s Keeper."

Does Cameron look cute or creepy without her golden locks?

Metropolis Ag+ Wet to Dry Ionic Flat Iron

Posted by babu 1:13pm GMT

I hate having to blow-dry my hair in warm weather (with or without the luxury of A/C). The perspiration, the frizzy mess to tame… It all just makes me want to shower again.

Thankfully, those days are gone. The hair gods have heard our pleas, and given us a way skip that painful pre-styling step. Now we can just use a wet-to-dry styling tool, like the Ag+ Flat Iron from Metropolis, to go from damp-to-polished in no time at all.

From the few models I’ve tried so far, the Ag+ is a favorite as it comes with fab features, like:

- Nano Technology (which basically means it’s anti-bacterial and anti-fungal)
- Digital temperature control
- Ionic composition (which translates into longer lasting protection against humidity, faster drying/styling, and less damage caused to your hair over time)

With sleek, straight hairstyles making a strong comeback, it’s definitely worth it to invest in a timesaving tool like the Ag+. If you’re not one for such a dramatic look, you can always use the same tool to create soft, loose waves as well (by twisting your hair with the iron).

Check out Folica.com for a selection of these innovative new flat irons, including the Metropolis Ag+ (SRP $199.95).

Warning: Don’t Try This At Home

I adore Demi Moore. She’s elegant, talented, and ageless… But she also has off days,
just like the rest of us.

Case in point: This odd-looking ponytail worn at a recent
charity event. Her bangs look greasy, and those slicked-down side bits are just
awful.

Mind you, if we were watching Ashton get ready, we’d
probably forget to do our hair as well!

One of the Boys

Whether you love or hate her, it's difficult to deny that Hilary Clinton has officially made it into the 'boys club'. I can't help but wonder though, how much of her femininity does she have to conceal to fit in?

Color Chameleons

From Christina Ricci to Lindsay Lohan and Lily Allen, many celebs are taking a walk on the lighter side this season. And why not? It's a great way to switch things up, and can make your entire wardrobe (and makeup bag) feel brand new.

If you too are curious to see if blondes have more fun, just be sure to:

  • Consult a professional stylist to find the
perfect shade. Touch-ups can be done at-home if necessary, but the initial
experiment should be handled with care.

  • Compensate with color. Use a brighter blush, or
a rich shade of eyeshadow, to avoid looking washed-out.

Protect and condition. Chemical processing can leave your hair feeling weak and dehydrated, so stock-up on a thermal styling guard, UV-shielding hair care products, and an intensive weekly treatment.
