Eva Longoria: Love It or Hate It?

Eva Longoria showcased a newly cropped 'do at the Alma Nominations on Monday afternoon.

I'm not sure how I feel about this new look, on one hand it's very sophisticated and refined, and on the other it ages her a bit and takes away that playfulness she's famous for.

Mind you, we don't know how short her hair actually was, as Eva's always been a (very successful) fan of hair extensions and clip-in pieces. Perhaps she's only had a trim...

What do you think of Eva's latest look, love it or hate it?

Hair Removal 101: The Right Way to Wax

Posted by babu 10:46am GMT

Yes, it can be expensive to go to an esthetician regularly, and yes, waxing can absolutely torturous when done incorrectly at-home. So why even bother? Well, this age-old method yields results that last longer than shaving or depilatory creams (up to three weeks), soften and minimize regrowth, and can actually reduce/eliminate the hair in those areas over time.

To find the best ways to get our wax on, I’ve been busy testing a bunch of at-home kits, tips, and techniques so that we can enjoy all the benefits of waxing- without the struggle.

What You Need to Know Before Waxing:

- If you’re a closet shaver, wait a good two weeks before waxing any body hair. (Hair should be between a ¼ to ½ an inch, if it’s longer be sure to trim with safety scissors.)

- If you’re quite sensitive to pain, pick up an over-the-counter topical anesthetic cream, like No Scream Cream, to apply about 30-45 minutes before waxing.

Top Tips for a Stress-Free Waxing Session:

- Start with clean, dry skin. If you’d like to apply a ‘primer’, use a little baby powder (be sure to dust off excess) but never apply alcohol before/after waxing.

- Wax small areas at a time, so you have greater control and a faster, less painful experience.

- Practice makes perfect. Test your skills in easy-to-reach areas like your calves or arms before attempting to wax your bikini or underarms.

- If hot/warm wax is too intimidating (or time consuming), pick up a pack of pre-treated wax strips. My favorite ones to use are Parissa Quick & Easy Strips, as they manage to get every little hair and come in all sorts of sizes and formulations.

- Always apply hot/warm/strip wax in the direction of the hair growth, and pull it off in the opposite direction, keeping the wax/strip as close to itself as possible. (ie: don’t pull out & away from your body… It’s not fun, trust me.)

- Less is more. Always apply a thin layer of wax (except when using strip-less, hot wax) for best results.

- The faster you can pull the wax off of your body, the less painful and more effective the treatment will be.

- Two times is the MAX. If you don’t get all the hair with two attempts, just tweeze the remaining strays.

- Once all of the hair is removed, be sure to moisturize the area with a cleansing, calming oil like Tea Tree or Azulene.

Baby Hair Extensions?

Okay, I’ve seen a lot of things in my day… But baby hair extensions?!

Would you use them (or have you)? If so, you'll have to explain the logic to me as I'm in the dark on this one.

Perhaps this video is just a bit odd (that music and her turning the doll upside down… creepy!), but I can’t see myself choosing a wig over a cap/going au natural for my (future) child.

Wouldn’t it be uncomfortable for them to wear? It just seems so unnecessary…. and strange.

Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo

Hi, my name is Lily and I’m a wash-a-holic.

I can’t go more than a day without shampooing my hair. It’s a troubling addiction (which I know can lead to hair damage, and even loss…), but I’ve just never been able to kick the habit. Until now.

I had to undergo dermatological testing this past week, and my doctor said that bathing was simply out of the question. I’d never been able to go a full week without washing my hair (even during my brief stint as a brittle blonde), so I thought it’d be the perfect time to put a few dry shampoos to the test.

The results? Some failed to effectively lift the oil from my roots, others left a white residue (that aged me about 30 yrs), and a few made my hair feel even greasier. (!)

Thankfully, one product managed to save the day. Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo ($11-19) gave my hair the volume it craved, reduced the greasy residue, and scented my locks with a refreshing lemon-verbena fragrance.

Have I been cured of my shampooing addiction? Probably not. But I will be packing Pronto whenever I travel, and will also put it to good use as a midday pick-me-up for my hair.

PS: This product is also available in a spray version, but I love the fine-tipped squeeze bottle as it ensures an easy, precise application every time.

Perfecting the Post-Gym Look

Let's face it, no one has great hair after a proper workout. It generally takes a cleverly placed accessory or a couple of hair elastics/pins to walk out of the gym without looking a right mess.

Need a little inspiration for your own post-workout look? Check out the stars above for a few cute options that’ll have you ready for your close-up (or return to work) in a matter of seconds.

If you seek a do-it-all headband to wear during/after your session (like Brooke's), be sure to try a Lululemon Headwrap. They're perfect for the gym, on a lazy day, or to keep your hair out of the way when applying makeup. Just be warned- They're highly addictive...
