Soap & Glory Hair Supply

Posted by babu 12:54pm GMT

If your locks could use a little pampering after a summer of sun & surf (or heat styling and chemical processing...), pick up a tube of this fabulous hair masque by Soap & Glory. It's fantastic.

Haven't heard of Soap & Glory? It's the creation of Bliss mastermind Marcia Kilgore, and has the same playful packaging and delicious scents as her premier range- without the prestige price tag.

Now that you know a bit more about the brand, let's get back to my current obsession (soon to be yours, too!). Hair Supply is a gloss-giving radiance and repair treatment that works wonders for all hair types. The gel-cream formulation helps hydrate your tresses and tame frizz, without weighing them down, so you're always left with healthy-looking hair.

I love using this product once a week, root-to-tip for 5-10 minutes, but you could also use it as a daily conditioner (focusing on the lower half of your hair) if you're in need of some serious hydration.

Soap & Glory Hair Supply, $9.99. Available exclusively at Target stores nationwide and online at Target.com.

August's Hair Horoscopes

Posted by babu 6:16pm GMT

Source: LiquidLibrary/Jupiter Images

I love a good horoscope, they're always the perfect way to procrastinate from a lengthy "to do" list.
Take a peek at your star sign below for customized tips to help you in your quest for perfect hair...

Capricorn (12/22 - 1/19)
Sometimes you’ve got to look within for answers. Review your diet and fitness plan (or lack thereof…) to ensure you’re getting all of the vitamins and proteins you need for healthy hair, from the inside out.

Aquarius (1/20 - 2/17)
Embrace your natural hair texture. Let your hair air dry and work with what nature gave you. The positive response may surprise you.

Pisces (2/18 - 3/19)
Cleanse, cleanse, cleanse. Ensure your locks are always looking their fullest and most vibrant by using a weekly deep cleanser for your hair.

Aries (3/20 - 4/19)
Laminate your locks if you’re feeling a bit dull at the moment. A nice glossing treatment will have you shining again in no time.

Taurus (4/20 - 5/20)
You may find yourself lusting after every expensive product on the market, but it’s best to be a bit conservative in today’s economy. Try a homemade hair treatment or remedy for an effective, luxurious experience at a fraction of the cost.

Gemini (5/21 - 6/20)
Experiment with hair extensions this month, you won’t be disappointed. Try faux bangs, longer layers, or filler pieces to add volume and glamour to any look.

Cancer (6/21 - 7/22)
If you always play it safe, you’ll never truly live. Go for that fun fall cut you’ve been eyeing or try a new hair color, change is a good thing.

Leo (7/23 - 8/22)
Treat your tresses to an intensive conditioning masque. After the sun and surf of summer, your hair could use a proper dose of hydration.

Virgo (8/23 - 9/22)
Anyone can fall victim to a "bad hair day," we’re only human. Just be sure to invest in a few cute accessories and a little anti-frizz serum to help tame your tresses when necessary.

Libra (9/23 - 10/22)
Sometimes less is more. Try wearing a chic chignon or a simple side-parted do for a look that’s sexy yet understated.

Scorpio (10/23 - 11/21)
If you’re unsure about a major change in your appearance, don’t be afraid to see a few different stylists for a consultation to find the one who shares your vision and makes you feel most comfortable.

Sagittarius (11/22 - 12/21)
Be warned, some of your favorite hair-care products may be limited edition or discontinued soon, so be sure to stock up on anything that you can’t live without.

Trend Alert: Skinny Headbands

It's rare to see a trend that's fun and functional, but this one is just that.

Starlets and socialites everywhere have been sporting skinny headbands both on the street and on the red carpet, and why not? They're the versatile, inexpensive hair-saver to stock up on this season. You can use them to help camouflage a bad bang job/that awkward regrowth period, salvage a bad-hair day, or with a brooch to add instant glamour to a basic updo. They're fantastic.

Check out JCrew.com, Goody.com, and UrbanOutfitters.com for cheap & cheerful headbands to help you get the look.

The Ultimate Blow-Out

Posted by babu 4:28pm GMT

Source: BananaStock/Jupiter Images

I love the high you get from a fabulous blow-out — that extra boost of confidence that comes with shiny, polished locks. But who can afford to hit the salon every other day? It can be a terribly time-consuming and costly addiction. (So I’ve learned!)

To help us achieve a professional blow-out sans salon, I’ve enlisted the help of celebrity stylist Edward Tricomi. Below, he reveals his secrets to achieving two star-worthy styles: a sleek, straight look, and a more voluminous version of the classic. I’ve tried both and they’re spot-on, but do note that the tools listed are key.

The Style: Ultra-Sleek and Straight

After rinsing, towel dry your hair to get all the moisture out. Next, apply a styling serum to tame frizz and smooth flyaways.

Then section your hair, and use the Warren-Tricomi Tension Brush to pull each section straight as you blow-dry. And finally, use a flat iron to lock-in the style.

The Style: Va-Va-Voluminous
(Note: If you plan to wear your hair in this style often, ask your stylist to cut long layers into your hair.)

After shampooing and conditioning, apply a volumizing spray throughout your hair.

The size of the brush you choose for the next step depends on how much hair you have. If you have a full head of thick hair, opt for a large, vented round brush. If you have fine hair, use a smaller version of the same brush.

Next, section your hair and use the brush to blow-dry each section. After you dry a section, spray your roots with a setting product, like Warren-Tricomi Hot-Set Spray, to add volume, and you’re good to go.

Have any great tips/tricks for the perfect blow-out? Do share!

Which Leading Lady Stole the Show?

Posted by babu 5:42pm GMT

Source: Stephen Lovekin/Getty Images

Last night’s premiere of "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2" was a star-studded event, with loads of familiar faces from both film and TV walking the red carpet in support of the movie.

The leading ladies looked glamorous, with Blake Lively choosing a band of braids and tousled tresses, Alexis Bledel opting for a classic chignon, America Ferrera teasing her hair to new heights and Amber Tamblyn rocking a basic half-updo.

I liked all but America's look, but which do you prefer — Blake’s boho braids, Alexis’ elegant bun, America’s voluminous half-updo, or Amber’s simple style?

Maria Bello: Love It or Hate It?

Maria Bello went for a wild (yet well-executed) half-updo at the American premiere of "The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor" in Los Angeles yesterday.

I’m personally a big fan of this look on Maria. It gives her normally limp locks a boost in volume and texture, and the overall effect is glamorous without being too stiff. It also compliments the neckline of her dress quite nicely.

What do you think of Maria’s latest red-carpet look: Love it or hate it?
