Extend the Life of Your Next Blowout

Posted by babu 4:54pm GMT

Professional blowouts can be expensive and inconvenient, whilst at-home attempts have a tendency to fall flat.

So what's a girl to do?

Prevention suggests that the secret to achieving "72-Hour Fresh-Hair" is as simple as 1, 2, 3:

Day 1: Shampoo twice in a row with a mild product to remove residue that weighs hair down; then condition only the ends.

Day 2: Spritz a dry shampoo onto your roots; the powder formula absorbs existing oil and prevents more from building up.

Day 3: Switch your part to boost volume and hide less-than-squeaky-clean roots; touch up with your blow-dryer to restore bounce.

Travel-Proof Your Tresses

Heading out of town for the weekend? Celebrity stylist Jeanie Syfu shares her top tips for hassle-free hair:

Styles should always look effortless.
Done is sexy, but undone is sexier. So stay away from styles that are too sleek. The hair should look soft versus sculpted. You don’t want to leave the house worrying whether it will stay or not. Keep it very simple and just a bit tousled, which is perfect for the beach. If you are pulling your hair back, use your fingers versus a brush to give it more of a casual look. If pieces fall out, don’t worry so much about having the hair perfectly in place. Finally, before heading out for your vacay make sure that your meet with your stylist to get a really good cut that pretty much styles on its own. A good stylist should be able to work with you and give you something that complements your natural hair texture—curly or straight.

Pack the right products.
Elastics are good to have because it is a simple way to tame fly-aways and control frizziness. You can use the elastics to pull your hair into a low bun, which will keep the hair smooth and allow your blow out to last longer, especially if you aren’t the type of person to wash your hair every day. For those with straighter hair, try using elastics to create beachy waves. Do this by parting hair down the middle and twisting both sides into high buns and securing with elastics. Let the hair set with a volume mousse and finger through for a tousled finish.

Keep in mind that pomade or a finishing cream like the TRESemmé Anti-Frizz Secret Smoothing Creme can help with enhancing the texture, and shielding the hair from humidity depending on your hair type. Also, skip the heavy hair spray and go for a lighter mist, such as the Tres Two Ultra Fine Mist Hair Spray, which gives the hair more movement.

Condition, condition, condition.
When you are at the pool or beach, put conditioner in your hair and put it back in a ponytail or braid it. Doing this will protect the hair from the harshness of the chlorine or sea salt. You should always use conditioner even if your hair is fine or on the oily side to protect the hair from the sun’s harmful rays which can cause breakage. Consider it an easy nourishing treatment.

Surprising Budget Beauty Tips

Click here to view Friday's segment on fun, budget-friendly beauty tips, courtesy of InStyle magazine.

Highlights include:

Make Your Own Dry Shampoo
Dry shampoos work wonders but they can be really expensive. For a fast and inexpensive at-home alternative, mix together equal parts baking soda and baby powder, sprinkle over, hair, and brush! The baking soda helps remove buildup while the baby powder soaks up excess oil.

Use Kool-Aid to Tone Down Hair Color
Want to say "see ya" to brassy hair color? Add a pinch of grape Kool-aid powder to four tablespoons of your regular shampoo. The purple-blue color of the Kool-aid cancels out the brassy gold orange in over-processed hues because it's on the opposite side of the color spectrum.

Use Sugar as a Hair Volumizer
If you want to quickly thicken your hair, add two sugar packets to a 20 ounce bottle of water to create a natural volumizing spray.

Use Soda to Thin Clumpy Mascara
A drop of Coca-Cola will reinvigorate your mascara's consistency. The syrup in the soda adds just enough moisture without making your makeup watery.

A Whole Lot of Bull?

Whether inspired by "Something About Mary" or the result of a (rather curious) experiment, London's Hari's Salon is claiming that bull semen can work "miracles" on damaged hair.

How so? Through one of their custom-blended, in-salon services, of course. The Aberdeen Organic Bull Serum Treatment, or "Viagra for hair" as it's been called, is a 45-minute service that promises to restore, replenish, and revitalize tired/over-processed tresses, and retails for anywhere from £55 to £85 ($90 to $138 USD).

"Twilight" Stars Credit "Awesome Hair" for Winning Teen Choice Awards

Posted by babu 5:25pm GMT

Kevin Winter/TCA 2009

Prior to winning a whopping 11 surfboards at last night's Teen Choice Awards, two of "Twilight's" hottest stars, Kellan Lutz and Jackson Rathbone, had a few theories to share about the secret to their overwhelming success.

"Rob's hair. Jackson's hair," Lutz joked to MTV News on the red carpet. "[The movie studio] Summit's brilliant with casting people with awesome hair and full lips."

And what about the sparks between Robert Pattinson's and Kristen Stewart's characters? It doesn't hurt that their love story also involves some hair, adds Rathbone.

Which "Twilight" star gives you hair envy?
