Love It or Hate It: Drew Barrymore's Ponytail

Posted by melissa k. 5:42pm GMT

MCGM/SplashNews, Steve Granitz/WireImage

Drew Barrymore sported a very long and sleek and kind of skinny looking ponytail the night of the Emmy Awards. Doesn’t really work, does it? Her style lends itself to a looser down-do if you will. It’s the whole hippie-dippy thing she has going for her – the severe pony doesn’t work with it. What do you think?

Lady Gaga: She's Just Like Us

Posted by melissa k. 4:52pm GMT

Splash News

Could it be? Lady Gag is wearing a hat and it’s not in the shape of a lobster, bow, religious symbol, phallic symbol etc. It’s a baseball cap – she’s just like us! She’s having a bad hair day! She’s human!

Oh wait – she’s in the luxury sky-box of a game, drinking champagne and mocking all the mere mortals who paid for crappy seats. Phew.

Get the Look: Naya Rivera's Emmys Hairstyle

Posted by melissa k. 3:25pm GMT

Jordan Strauss/WireImage

“Glee” star Naya Rivera wore her hair sleek and smooth at the 2011 Emmy Awards Show. “For Naya's look for the Emmy's this year, she wore a beautiful, elegant,
slightly edgy black dress with a train. We wanted hair to look elegant and chic,
but still modern and sexy with tons of healthy shine,” said stylist Brian Magallones.

Here’s how he achieved this look. Warning: You SHOULD try this at home!:

1. First, Brian straightened her naturally very curly hair. He used the Frizz-Ease® Hair
Serum Thermal Protection Formula to protect her hair and boost shine.

2. Once her hair was straight, he used a 1-inch curling iron to put a light natural wave back into the hair.

3. Next, Brian secured Naya’s hair into a mid-height pony tail (not too low, nor too
high). He then lightly teased the pony tail, and proceeded to form a chignon by twisting
and pinning with hairpins around the base of the pony tail. The goal was to keep it
slightly imperfect, but not too messy, just giving it some texture.

4. The look was finished off with the Frizz-Ease® Moisture Barrier Firm-Hold Hairspray, and lots of Frizz-Ease® 100% Shine® Glossing Mist to keep her hair shining throughout the night.

Off the Runway: Jeremy Scott Spring 2012

Posted by melissa k. 5:21pm GMT

Rob Kim/FilmMagic

Jeremy Scott NEVER disappoints at his runway shows – the looks he sends down are always unique from head to toe. And his Spring 2012 presentation was no different.

The hair was inspired by “Country Barbie” of all things…and it worked. The Wild West meets Mrs. Robinson from “The Graduate” styling was fun and fresh. Here, Eugene Souleiman, Wella Professionals Global Creative Director, Care & Styling tells us how to channel our inner cowgirls at home – yeehaw!

1. Start with freshly washed and conditioned hair using Wella Professionals Enrich Shampoo and Conditioner.

2. Prep wet hair with Perfect Setting Blow-Dry Lotion, and blow dry to create a smooth texture.

3. Tong the hair using a wide barrelled hair tong and clip each curl and leave to set. Once the hair has cooled, keep the top section (about 6 curls) pinned on top of the head, and create two sections (parted at the back of the head) in the bottom section.

4. Take each section at a time and gently back comb right at the roots to create a little volume, then fasten in to a low pony tail with elastic and twist the curl into a defined ringlet. Spray with Wella Professionals Super Set Finishing Spray to keep the ringlet in place.

5. Release the top section and back comb each piece to half the length of the hair using as fine toothed comb, the hair should stand up on its own and provide a structure for the ‘bouffant’. Smooth the hair in to once section using a soft bristle brushed, sprayed with Wella Professionals Super Set Finishing Spray, and twist in to a high side flip.

6. Spray with Wella Professionals Super Set Finishing Spray to hold the style.

Off the Runway: Douglas Hannant Spring 2012

Things got kinky at Douglas Hannant’s fashion show. His models all sported some version of a crimped hairstyle. Could crimping be the new braids? Will all the serial braiders like Nicole Richie and the Olsens switch over to this 80s look? Only time will tell.

Let us preface this post by saying that we love Kourtney Kardashian, we really do. But when we saw this recent photo of her leaving the Alice + Olivia fashion show in New York, we couldn’t help but think of the Magda, Cameron Diaz’s overly tan neighbor from the movie “What About Mary”.

Off the Runway: Band of Outsiders Spring 2012

Posted by melissa k. 3:59pm GMT

While the Band of Outsiders show was inspired by a cult classic film about a group of Victorian-era schoolgirls who have gone missing, we just thought the models looked pretty! Here, we provide a detailed description of how makeup artist Dick Page created the above look from the runway with Shiseido products:
br />

FACE
He prepped each model’s skin by applying Shiseido The Skincare Multi-Energizing Cream.

After moisturizing, Dick applied a wash of foundation to conceal any blemishes or redness.

For cheeks, Dick blended a combination of the Shiseido Makeup Accentuating Color Stick in Rouge Flush (S4) and Glistening Flush (S3) together on the inside of his forearm. Using a wedge sponge, he applied the cream blush mixture directly on the cheeks. Taking a blush brush, Dick blended the blush on the skin, focusing on the cheeks and bridge of the nose to create a “slightly sunburned” effect.

EYES
He applied the Shiseido Makeup Accentuating Cream Eye Liner in Black (#1) to the top lash line and in the lower water line of the inner eye.

After the eyeliner application, Dick brushed the Shiseido Makeup Perfect Mascara Full Definition to the top lashes only.

He created a custom brow for each model by mixing together the Shiseido Makeup Shimmering Cream Eye Color in Sable (BR709), Patina (GR707) and Leather (BR306) and applying the combination to a clean mascara comb to finish the look.

LIPS
He applied the Shiseido Benefiance Full Correction Lip Treatment to hydrate and condition the lip area.

A wash of foundation was added to the lips and blotted with a damp base sponge to remove any natural color.
