Get the Look: Kyra Sedgwick's Ageless Complexion

Posted by babu 10:32am GMT

Celebrity makeup artist Robin Siegel shares how she created Kyra Sedgwick's flawless finish for Sunday's SAG Awards:

"Inspired by Kyra’s vintage Thierry Mugler dress, I created a sexy smoky eye with soft rose lips and radiant skin. This look perfectly complemented her Cartier earrings, bracelet watch and Chris McMillan's hairstyle of rock-n-roll waves.

On Kyra’s eyes, I applied Chanel Regard Perle Eyeshadow across the lids, and then used CoverGirl LiquilineBlast in Silver Spark across the lash line, which gave her a smoky, liquid liner look. For the lashes, I created a full fan of long lashes with CoverGirl LashBlast Length Mascara in Black.

On the skin, I achieved a radiant, flawless finish with CoverGirl Simply Ageless Foundation. Then, I added a rosy glow with CoverGirl Simply Ageless Sculpting Blush in Lush Berry and set the look with Chanel Rose Merveille Powder.

To complement the sexy eyes and rocking curls, I finished with a glossy, polished lip using CoverGirl NatureLuxe Gloss Balm in Sandstone."

Expert Q&A: Molly Stern

Posted by babu 2:50pm GMT

From Amy Adams to Ellen DeGeneres, some of the biggest names in Hollywood rely on CoverGirl makeup artist Molly Stern for their red-carpet looks. Below, Molly dishes on everything from her first celebrity client to the 10 beauty tools she can't live without.

Long before the current crop of celebrity makeup artists, you were working with some of the industry's top talent. Who was your first star client?

Well, my first "moment" was the cover of Esquire magazine with Jim Carrey. He put clothespins all over his face ... I guess I've come a long way when it comes to beauty!

Is there really such a thing as "universally flattering" makeup? If so, what are your favorite fail-proof products/shades?

I am in love with cream blush and I think it’s one of those products that looks great on everyone and helps every woman look healthier and more alive! CoverGirl and Olay Simply Ageless Sculpting Blush is my go-to for a pop of natural color on my cheeks — the cream blush comes in four gorgeous shades that look good on all skin tones.

What is your all-time favorite red-carpet look you've created for a client?

There are so many red-carpet looks that I adore, so it’s difficult to choose just one, but I have always loved a modern smoky eye; using more taupes and browns versus the classic black and silver. I feel a slightly "dirty" eye on the red carpet can help accentuate a woman's natural beauty and not compete with the dress. Mixing glamour and reality. It's a fun combination.

What products do you think a woman should splurge on? When should she save her money?

I think it’s important to invest in a good moisturizer with SPF — this is a product you should apply daily, and the health of your skin ultimately affects your overall complete beauty look. I think women can save their money when it comes to investing in eyeshadow, mascara and lipgloss. All women love playing with color, and the drugstore aisle is the perfect place to go to experiment with bold shades without breaking the bank.

Which spring/summer 2010 beauty trends are you most excited about?

For summer, I am loving a bright coral lip as well as a colorful smoky eye. CoverGirl Smoky ShadowBlast makes it virtually effortless to create a bright smoky eye in just two steps. Plus the shade palette was designed by my makeup hero, Pat McGrath, so you know the look is amazingly on-trend.

Get ready for our lightning round of questions:
Favorite concealer?

CoverGirl & Olay Simply Ageless Concealer.

Most beloved skincare product?

La Mer Moisturizing Lotion.

Most memorable moment of your career to date?

Going down to New Orleans and offering makeup application to victims of Hurricane Katrina. I learned so much from these women watching them go from broken to beautiful.

Person you’d most like to meet, past or present?

John Lennon.

Guilty pleasure?

If I am enjoying myself I don't feel guilty.

Favorite getaway?

Malibu.

Childhood nickname?

Molly Polly Wolly Dolly Do Dah Day ... not kidding, my mother is eccentric.

Favorite tool(s) to work with?

My fingers. 10 nature-given tools. I can proudly make up a whole face just using my hands.

Makeup 101: How to Apply Foundation

Posted by babu 10:43am GMT

Steve Granitz

Achieve a "naturally" flawless complexion with these expert tips, compliments of CoverGirl:

Lighting Is Key
If you can't try on the foundation you are interested in, hold it up next to your face (in sunlight if possible).

Switch Things Up
Skin color changes with the seasons, so your foundation should change, too. For instance, do not wear the same foundation with a summer tan as you would in the winter.

Finger Paint
For the most professional application, use your fingertips or a triangle sponge to apply foundation. Natural sea sponges don't cover evenly - save them for your bath. Instead, try Sponge Wedges - the smooth surface strokes on evenly, and the tapered edge blends makeup into tough-to-reach spots like corners between eye and nose.

Don't Skip Your Eyes
Use foundation on your eyelids even if you never wear shadow. It gives a bright, open look to the entire eye area.

Blend, Blend, Blend
When you wear foundation on your entire face or need coverage at the jawline, be sure to blend it into the edges of your face and down onto your neck, or else you will appear to have a mask on. Sponge Wedges offer a smooth surface for an even application.

Shake It Up
If you are using a liquid foundation, always shake the bottle vigorously before applying.

Check Your Shade
Foundation color should be so perfectly matched to your skin tone that it seems to disappear into your skin. It should not be noticeable in any way. If it is, the shade is wrong.

Prime Your Skin
To smooth fine lines, normal to dry skin types should prime their skin by adding a light layer of moisturizer, or tinted moisturizer, 10 minutes before applying makeup.
