If there were an award for abusing trends, Paris Hilton would win by a landslide.

Unlike her former frenemy, the heiress hasn't quite mastered the art of enhancing an outfit with hair accessories. Instead, Paris' over-the-top headbands and awkward extensions always seem to overpower her look. But then again, given her equally questionable taste in clothing, perhaps that's not such a bad thing after all...

Though she's never been one to be discreet, Paris Hilton's recent attempt to shine has me desperately searching for sunglasses.

Alone they're not terribly offensive, but the combination of her over-the-top headband and awkward 'do are a match made for the Hair Hall of Shame. I'd prefer to see these jewels worn as a hairband or incorporated into an elegant updo. As is, this look is neither flattering nor on trend.

It's rare to see a trend that's fun and functional, but this one is just that.

Starlets and socialites everywhere have been sporting skinny headbands both on the street and on the red carpet, and why not? They're the versatile, inexpensive hair-saver to stock up on this season. You can use them to help camouflage a bad bang job/that awkward regrowth period, salvage a bad-hair day, or with a brooch to add instant glamour to a basic updo. They're fantastic.
