Current Obsession: Kirsten Dunst's Dazzling 'Do

Posted by babu 12:56pm GMT

Eric Ryan/Getty Images

We've seen loads of retro-inspired looks walk the red carpet at this year's Cannes Film Festival, but Kirsten's bejeweled updo may just be my favorite.

It's a classic look, but the matte, textured finish adds an unexpected — and brilliant — twist. (Don't you think??)

Current Obsession: John Frieda Frizz-Ease Smooth Start

Posted by babu 1:21pm GMT

Brand

I've yet to try a John Frieda product I didn't like, and their new Smooth Start collection is no exception.

Developed to treat dryness and damage respectively, Frizz-Ease Hydrating and Repairing shampoo and conditioner duos ensure that smooth hair starts in the shower. At the heart of each formula lies an exclusive Frizz-Mending Complex of replenishing essential oils and proteins, which effectively restores the moisture balance and blocks out humidity. After just one use, hair is left looking full, flawless and frizz-free.

Both cleansers and conditioners are also lightweight enough for regular use and safe for color-treated hair, providing an ideal head start when it comes to creating sleek styles. (Just look at Amanda Seyfried 's Oscar 'do, which celebrity stylist Harry Josh primed with the Repairing duo.)

Highly reccomended.

John Frieda Frizz-Ease Smooth Start Hydrating and Repairing shampoos and conditioners, $6.49 each. Available online at Drugstore.com.

Expert Advice: Weatherproof Your Look

Posted by babu 4:07pm GMT

Steve Granitz/WireImage

The stars at Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards managed to look impeccable despite the rain— thanks, of course, to the countless stylists, artists and assistants waiting in the wings.

Since most of us don't have a 24/7 beauty team on speed dial, I've enlisted the expertise of celebrity makeup artist Christopher Drummond— who's beautified the likes of Jennifer Lopez and January Jones— as well as hairstylist Philip Pelusi, to help us weather any storm in style:

Makeup Tips
— If it is raining the day of a special event, stay away from liquid foundation, which has a tendency to “melt” and not last as long.
— Add a little more makeup than you normally would for all products to prepare for the fact that some makeup will come off due to bad weather. Be sure to add layers to your foundation.
— Use water resistant products, such as Christopher Drummond Beauty products like Veludo Velvet Foundation and Finale Finishing Powder.

Hair Tricks
— Check the weather report a few days in advance so you can plan to wear your hair up or down. If rain is in the forecast, plan ahead to wear your hair either all up or half up and half down.
— Pulling hair into an updo or half-upsweep is the best strategy to stay looking good in rainy conditions because hair is already curled, pinned and sprayed in place.
— If it gets rained on a bit, hair can simply air dry in place, and it is also easier to keep an updo dry under an umbrella.
— If you wear your hair down and are caught by surprise, make sure to bring a small emergency kit in your purse to a special event with a few hair pins, a ponytail holder and a small purse size hair spray.
— If hair gets wet, go for a quick style change. Pull hair back into the ponytail and wrap hair around the ponytail holder and secure into place with the hair pins. Mist with spray.

Current Obsession: Philip B. Russian Amber Shampoo

Posted by babu 4:22pm GMT

Brand

Yes, it's extremely expensive. And yes, it feels strange and gooey when applied. But ladies, this isn't any ordinary hair cleanser. Philip B. Russian Amber Imperial Shampoo is a botanically-based, miracle-in-a-tub.

So what's so special? Well, the formula actually works to fortify and restore hair’s cell membranes, making color- or chemically-treated strands come alive. In addition, a complex of L-Amino Acids – at dramatically high concentrations – repairs hair at a cellular level. One treatment instantly leaves your color more vibrant and adds elasticity and bounce. And by giving the cuticle a smooth, highly reflective finish, it makes your hair shinier – naturally, without a hint of residue.

Then there's the highly reparative Panthenol (Vitamin B5) included, which works to smooth and fill flaws in the hair cuticle. And lightweight, yet deeply moisturizing, Shea Butter evens fuzzy, chemically-stressed hair a silky feel and dramatically glossy finish – without weighing it down.

Basically, this product is a rinse-out blowout. An instant fix that turns dry, fuzzy strands into gorgeous, silky perfection. Plus, the natural scent of amber – warm and powdery with a subtle touch of musk– is gorgeous and truly wearable on everyone.

Highly recommended.

Philip B. Russian Amber Imperial Shampoo, $18-$140. Available online at PhilipB.com.
