Get the Look: Kate Hudson's Romantic Waves

Posted by babu 11:44am GMT

Recreate Kate Hudson's latest look with this step-by-step guide, compliments of celebrity stylist David Babaii:

First, I prepared Kate's wet hair by massaging a dime size amount of David Babaii for WildAid Hair Polish into her hair. For greater control, I parted her hair into 4 sections (both sides and crown leaving the nape area free). This helps achieve the perfect blow dry.

Next, I dried each section straight, giving the ends a soft rounded finish with my David Babaii for WildAid Blow Dryer. For added lift and volume, I sprayed some David Babaii for WildAid Volcanic Ash Root Amplifier.

To finish, I french braided her shorter layers to sweep hair back and away from her face. For hold, I used my Mise en Plis Light Styling Spray. It's like oxygen for the hair! It doesn't weigh your style down or make it feel tacky. At the end of the night, Kate's look was completely fresh without any product build up.

Get the Look: Nicole Kidman's Loose Waves

Posted by babu 1:11pm GMT

Frederick Breedon/Getty Images

Nicole Kidman's latest red carpet look is as sophisticated as it is sexy. Below, celebrity stylist David Babaii shares how he created the starlet's loose, luminous waves:

To get started, I had Nicole shampoo and condition her hair with David Babaii for WildAid Amplifying Shampoo and Conditioner for volume. (Remember my motto: rinse, rinse, rinse, so you have a clean canvas. This is a must for achieving a "good hair day"!)

Next, I sprayed her entire head with David Babaii for WildAid Bohemian Beach Spray and scrunched the product into her hair. This gives just the right amount of texture and movement.

To create added volume while blow drying, I moved her hair in various directions. Once dry, I sectioned the hair into three different parts: top, sides and back leaving the nape area free. This is vital because you need to have constant control over the hair at all times. I used a 1 ½" sized FHI Heat Ceramic curling iron to create these luscious loose curls. To achieve natural looking curls and/or hide any partings, take alternating "V" shaped partings and wrap the sections around the inside of the barrel and hold for 10 seconds. Clip each curl and allow them to cool.

To style, remove all the clips and rub a small amount of David Babaii for WildAid Hair Polish into your hands and finger tips. Gently run your fingers through the curls to loosen (no comb or brush, please!) Remember, your hands can be your best styling tools. To create these loose curls, take random sections and run your fingers through to separate and define.

For additional lift or volume at the scalp area, I used David Babaii for WildAid Volcanic Ash Root Amplifier. With my fingers, I lifted sections for extra volume and height. Finally, to complete Nicole's look, I sprayed David Babaii for WildAid Mise en Plis Light Styling Spray.

Get the Look: Scarlett Johansson's Textured Updo

Posted by babu 4:41pm GMT

Jet lag? Fatigue? Stylist-to-the-stars David Babaii doesn't appear to suffer from such things. After jetting across the ocean to Tokyo, Japan, the L.A.-based hairdresser went straight to work, creating a fashion-forward red carpet look for Scarlett Johansson to model at Tuesday's Moet & Chandon "Tribute to Cinema."

To create this "power look" and accentuate her fire-red Givenchy dress, David took Scarlett's long, strawberry-blonde hair and transformed it into a dramatic side-swept, textured bob.

Get-the-look:

After rough drying her locks with his signature Hair Polish (applied to damp hair), David loosely twirled large sections of hair and sprayed them with his Bohemian Beach Spray, while finishing the drying process.

Once Scarlett's hair was completely dried, David used his fingers as a comb to gently loosen the twirled sections. He continued using his fingers to sweep her tresses to one side (so as not to disturb the texture he'd achieved), cupping her hair under to create the illusion of shorter hair. He then secured the style with bobby pins, and sprayed his Mise en Plis Light Styling Spray for a soft, long-lasting hold.

Get the Look: Angelina Jolie's Tousled Waves

Posted by babu 4:09pm GMT

John Shearer/WireImage

Below, David Babaii— the stylist behind Angelina's latest red carpet look— shares his secrets for achieving her sexy, tousled waves:

Polish & Prep
First, David applied David Babaii for WildAid Hair Polish to Angelina's entire mane followed by spraying Volcanic Ash Root Amplifier to the root area for lift and volume.

Divide & Conquer
Next, he parted hair into 3 sections (This is David's key tip). Beginning at the nape area, he used the David Babaii for WildAid Blow Dryer with the nozzle attachment for direct styling. To achieve Angelina's smooth, shiny finish, David blow-dried her hair using a large round brush.

Hot/Cold
Once complete, he took large sections of hair and wrapped them around the same round brush. With the blow dryer and nozzle in hand, he blasted the hair with an additional hot air for 10 seconds, and then hit the cool button for a burst of cool air to set the shape. Carefully releasing each section from the brush, he continued until her entire head was complete.

And, last but not least, David finished Angelina's look with a mist of Mise en Plis Light Styling Spray.

Expert Advice: Bang Control

Posted by babu 6:03pm GMT

Jon Kopaloff/FilmMagic, Soul Brother/FilmMagic, Araya Diaz/WireImage

Bangs can be a major pain to maintain during the summer months, so I've asked celebrity stylist David Babaii for his top tips on how to keep fringe looking fabulous:

Styling aids:

- Use a hydrating shampoo and conditioner to keep hair in proper moisture balance during the hot weather

- Before styling, apply a lightweight hair polish to keep locks looking luminous (plus, it will retard humidity)

- Let your bang grow a bit longer to sweep to one side and clip with a hair accessory

- To achieve a great bang, blow dry with a round brush until the hair is completely straight, then use your hands to style into place

- For a piecey bang, use a molding paste to create separation. If necessary, spray with an extra light styling spray

- To create a sleek, humidity-proof bang, use a wet-to-dry flat iron then finish with hair polish

Trimming tips:

- For coarse/thick hair, have your stylist texturize your fringe by removing bulk and softening the ends to create a light airy finish

- For fine hair, a blunt cut is the best to give the appearance of fullness

- The ”heavy bang” compliments most face shapes and provides a young fresh look that women of any age can experiment with

- Be sure to trim your fringe every 3-4 weeks to keep your style in top form

Eco-Friendly Styling Tips

Posted by babu 5:37am GMT

Goodshoot/Jupiter

In honor of Earth Day, I've asked celebrity stylist David Babaii to share his top tips for eco-friendly styling:

Step Away from the Styling Tools
Achieve curls & texture without the use of heated styling tools.

If you have long hair:
After shampooing spray your entire head with a wave-enhancing hair product (like David Babaii for WildAid Bohemian Beach Spray) and scrunch and/or twist sections, then allow to air dry. Once dry, if added texture or volume is desired flip your head over and back, give it a quick shake. Then, to set it all in place, lightly spray your hair with a flexible- hold hairspray.

For short hair:
Towel dry wet hair thoroughly to begin the foundation. Then, spray your entire head with a wave-enhancing product and allow to air dry. Once dry, apply a molding paste and texturize your hair until you're happy with the look.

Cleanse with Care

Conserve water and energy by altering the way you wash your tresses.

In order to avoid excess oil or buildup (and save on water use), use a bit of baby powder throughout the hair as a dry shampoo. It will help lift your locks and fragrance them with a fresh scent. Alternatively, you can use a damp cotton pad and dab it around the hairline and roots to eliminate any excess oil. You can also mist the pad with a light, oil-free fragrance, or squeeze a few drops from a fresh lemon, for added effect.

When you do wash your hair, do so in the evening. It saves time and energy, and can add volume and texture to your look.

For tousled, textured looks:
When hair is slightly damp, create multiple sections and braid your hair tying the ends with an elastic band (depending on how much texture you want, make the braids loose, for less texture, or tight, for more). Next, spray the braids with a wave-enhancing spray and just sleep on it. When you awake, simply undo the braids, give your head a little shake, and add in some additional product to achieve the desired texture and volume.

Alternatively, you can also place all of your hair in a messy ponytail (twisting sections tight or loose to achieve various textures). Then simply spray your hair with a wave-enhancing product and go to bed. In the morning, undo the ponytail and you'll have an effortless, eco-chic look.

For sleek, straight styles:
For super straight hair, it’s is all about accessories. Play around with different head bands, hair pins, and clips to achieve a fun and playful look.

Alternatively, you can tie your hair in a sleek low pony tail. After tying it up, take small strands of hair and pin them on top of and underneath the pony tail to achieve the illusion of having volume. A simple half-updo can also tame straight, slept-on tresses.

Think Outside the Box
Use basic household items as styling aids.

For example:
- A new and unused toothbrush is a great styling tool; it can be used to back-brush close to the scalp to add volume, or even sweep away pesky flyaways.
- An old soda pop can help set your style and/or assist in achieving large, lopped curls.
- Used dryer sheets are a great way to freshen and fragrance your hair, and guard against static.
- Wrapping ribbon, old scarves and costume jewelry, are all cost-effective ways to add variety to your look and reduce household waste.

Get the Look: Angelina Jolie's Sexy Half-Updo

Posted by babu 7:05pm GMT

Source: Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images Jason Merritt/Getty Images, Steve Granitz/WireImage

We've gone straight to the source— celebrity stylist David Babaii— for the secrets to achieving Angelina Jolie's Oscars half-updo:

To create this romantic cascade of curls, David first sprayed Angelina's entire head with David Babaii for WildAid Bohemian Beach Spray and scrunched it into the hair. This provides just the right texture and hold.

Next, he dried her hair by dividing it into three sections: top, sides and back, leaving the nape area free. Taking small sections starting at the nape, he used the David Babaii for WildAid Blow Dryer (with the nozzle attachment) and finished the drying process with a large round brush to smooth Angelina's hair straight.

David then sprayed his Volcanic Ash Root Amplifier at the crown area and down the hair shaft. Next, he dried each section with a jumbo round brush to add lift and volume. Once dry, David sectioned the hair again using the same sectioning process as her did for blow drying. Then, using the David Babaii for WildAid Styling Iron, he created "ribbon curls" by taking small "V" shaped sections. To achieve, wrap the hair around and inside the styling iron close to the scalp area and pull the iron down (similar to curling ribbon). After curling the entire head, David smoothed some of the curls with a brush while leaving some intact. At the crown area, he back-brushed the hair (at the scalp area only), applied some additional Volcanic Ash Root Amplifier and gently smoothed the surface.

Next, to create her half-up, half down look, David brushed the sides up and back and secured the hair with pins. To complete the back, he ran his fingers up several of the curls to create volume and variations in texture. For a long but natural lasting hold, he finished the look with David Babaii for WildAid Mise en Plis Light Styling Spray.

And that's it!

Get the Look: Angelina Jolie's Golden Globes Style

Posted by babu 3:57pm GMT

Source: Steve Granitz/WireImage

I loved Angelina Jolie's easy, yet elegant, Golden Globes style so much, that I've asked celebrity stylist David Babaii to let us in on exactly how he achieved her look:

First, you'll need three simple tools: A blow dryer, round brush and his signature Bohemian Beach Spray.

After blow-drying Angelina's hair with his David Babaii for WildAid Blow Dryer and a round brush, David took large sections, twisting the ends around the brush and spraying each with his Bohemian Beach Spray.

Using the dryer's low speed, he gave each section a blast of warm air to set.

After cooling, the section was gently unwrapped from the brush and additional Bohemian Beach Spray was scrunched in to give volume and lift. And that's it!

The result is a timeless look that's never overdone or unnatural, and is an easy addition to your everyday routine.

Who do you think rocked the red carpet at the 2009 Golden Globe Awards?
