Imperfection is the New Black (Precision Eyeliner)

Posted by kgranero 5:44pm GMT

yasuaki takeuchi/Splash News

Good news for Lady Gaga!

According to a recent New York Times article titled "You Can Fall Out of Bed and Look Good," the days of drawing between the lines are numbered (and imperfect makeup is one of the biggest beauty trends of 2012).

"The look is 'coming home from the party,' not 'going out to the party,' said Terry Barber, director of makeup artistry for MAC Cosmetics. 'Perfection got slightly boring.'

To which fashion writer Stephanie Rosenbloom added:

"And the must-have tool to achieve perfect imperfection is recession-friendly: your fingertips. Use them to smudge eyeliner, smear bronzer, press bright stains into your cheeks and lips. The application of the makeup is as relaxed as the overall look."

Check out the full article, complete with tips on getting the imperfect look on a budget, at nymag.com.

Drybar is Coming to Midtown!

Posted by kgranero 4:52pm GMT

Brand

It's not often that I take a moment to toot a specific brand or salon's horn.

That said, I practically jumped for joy when I received news that Drybar (the blow dry bar pioneered by Alli Webb) is opening a new location in the Le Parker Meridien Hotel Midtown tomorrow because, ever since it made its east coast debut in the Flatiron District, I've been HOOKED.

Not only does the yellow, white and gray schemed salon ooze cool (it features a candy bar, iPhone charging docks at every station and the latest fashion mags to hit the stands - so you don't have to fight over the only one that's current), Drybar's equipped with talented stylists that know how to serve up a full "bar" of blowouts (my favorite is "The Cosmo" for loose curls) FAST.

Add to that the fact that you can book and cancel appointments online and save a buck or two with "Bartabs" and you're in heated-hair heaven (now perhaps in less time).

Find more info on services and locations at thedrybar.com.

Paris Fashion Week Trend: Rainbow Runway

Buff-beige or blue?

Designer Antonio de Moraes Barros took the eyeshadow-dress coordination debate to a whole new level while presenting one bright idea of a model after another for Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture S/S 2012.

Interestingly enough, the face paint used in the designer's "crayon box" collection was blended (as is usually advised when using foundation) into the models' necks, which I can only imagine was to make it appear more natural?

What's your favorite colored face-clothing combo in the collection (I tend to have a sweet spot for the turquoise)? Weigh in below!

Get the Look: Golden Globes Digits

From toasty taupes to tuxedos, here's how to "nail" some of this year's must-have 'Globes' manis:

1. The Tuxedo: For formal finger flare like Zooey Deschanel's, create a reverse manicure using white (try NYX Matte in White) and black (try CND Coulour in Blackjack) polish. Once dry, use either a toothpick or a polish pen (try Sally Hansen Nail Art Pen in Black) to fill in the devilish details.

2. Toasty Touch: To achieve Shailene Woodley's stucco shade, celeb manicurist Nettie Davis used Essie's Very Structured, dubbed "a classic burnt sienna."

3. Red-y for Anything: Laura Linney's classic mani was created with OPI's Congeniality is My Middle Name, a limited-edition shade from the brand's Miss Universe partnership.

4. Molded with Clay: Stacy Keibler's green-beige tips were achieved with OPI's Did You 'Ear About Van Gogh?, which is part of the brand's Holland collection, launching in February.

Erno Laszlo Introduces The Hollywood Collection (and Reveals Marilyn's Secret Scar Serum)

Posted by kgranero 5:30pm GMT

Brand

Erno Laszlo recently held a press preview to introduce The Hollywood Collection, a tribute to the brand's 85th year anniversary.

For the collection, Erno Laszlo experts took the actual skincare regiments customized by the Hungarian-born dermatologist with the same name for high-profile celebrities like Marilyn Monroe and Katherine Hepburn and updated them with some of today's top technologies to provide consumers with the access to Old Hollywood products with modern-day benefits, including:

1 (0.5 oz) "Greta Garbo" Velvet Night Cream
1 (0.5 oz) "Ava Gardner" Instant Eye Repair Ava Gardner
1 (0.5 oz) "Grace Kelly" Refresh Moisture Infusion
1 (0.5 oz) "Katharine Hepburn" Intense Porcelain Veil
1 (0.5 oz) "Marilyn Monroe" Morning Beauty Rescue

As if I wasn't star-struck enough sampling the products of these late Hollywood starlets (I'm personally obsessed with Marilyn's rosy, pearlescent gel formula), I was also able to catch a glimpse of Marilyn's personal Erno Laszlo stash (pictured below), which was recovered in an auction after her death.

If you look closely, you'll notice they are labeled "for: SCAR," as they were specially formulated to treat Marilyn's scar after her was appendix removed.

The Hollywood Collection 5-piece Set retails for $125 is available exclusively at ernolaszlo.com and Nordstrom through February (it will later be distributed to additional high-end retailers).
