Whenever I gift a girlfriend with lip color, it's generally well received. That is, unless she's a brunette and the lipstick or gloss in question happens to be rose-tinted.

"Great, thanks... I'm sure my mum will love this."

"Umm, hmm. Looks like a 'free gift with purchase'-sort-of-shade. Have any nude lippie to spare?"

"No, really, it's much appreciated. I'll use it to tone some of my darker lipsticks. Or maybe as blush?"

Now look at Keira Knightley —  seen here at Monday's taping of the "Daily Show" — and tell me that lip isn't oh-so-flattering? Especially as paired with her cocoa-smoky eye.
