One Designer, Two Ways: Alexander McQueen

Posted by babu 6:05pm GMT

Pippa Middleton, sister and maid of honor to Kate Middleton (now Catherine Duchess of Cambridge) looked stunning in a creamy, crepe gown designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen at the royal wedding.

If you recall, Cameron Diaz wore a similar version of the gown minus the lace embroidering along the cowl neck and sleeves (also by Alexander McQueen) to the 2010 Golden Globe Awards.

While I'm inclined to say I love the adaptation worn by Pippa because of the ease and grace in which she pulled it off and the magnitude of her event, I must say that I think each version of the dress was fit for its respective occasion.

Which style is the right way, and which one needs to hit the highway? You tell me in the comment section below.

This Week's Fab Five

Posted by babu 5:45pm GMT

This week was all about grown-up glamour. And the winners are...

Kate Middleton (aka Catherine Duchess of Cambridge) in Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen on her royal wedding day. There was so much speculation about Catherine's gown that I was afraid to see her final gown choice for fear that it would dissappoint. It didn't. The sweetheart neckline and V-neck, lace overlay added just enough drama to this otherwise classic wedding gown, which is no doubt fit for a princess.

Pippa Middleton
in Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen at Catherine's royal wedding. Pippa, Kate's younger sister and maid of honor, might not have managed to upstage the princess, but she sure managed to capture a lot of hearts in this ivory satin-based crepe dress, which came across as being mature without being matronly (I love that she wore the same designer as the bride!).

Iman
in Jason Wu at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards. The supermodel and entrepeneur looked fierce in this feminine fuschia gown, which featured flirty frills along the neckine. She accessorized with turquoise drop earrings.

Blake Lively in Zuhair Murad Couture at the Time 100 Gala. The "Gossip Girl" star reminded me of a modern-day mermaid in this seafoam and cream, ombre gown, which boasted beautiful embellishments along the bodice.

Kerry Washington
in Catherine Malandrino at the Time 100 Gala. The actress pulled off this bold, abstract-print silk gown with flying colors, sealing the deal with a pair of gold peep-toe platforms.

Which leading lady's grown-up gown is most breathtaking?

Mad Hatters at William & Kate's Royal Wedding

Posted by babu 1:55pm GMT

Forget the paparazzi! The biggest distraction at William & Kate's Royal Wedding was the long barricade of breathtaking (and BIG!) bonnets.

While each of Victoria Beckham's "posh" fascinator, Miriam Gonzalez's blooming head wrap and the color-coordinated and flower-adorned toppers of sisters Santa Palmer-Tomkinson (bottom left) and Tara Palmer-Tomkinson (bottom right) proved strong competitors, my "Best Hatted" award has to go to sisters Princess Eugenie (top left, in a flower- and feather-accented Philip Treacy hat) and Princess Beatrice (top right, in what looked like a bowed mirror on her head, also by Philip Treacy).

Who proved your favorite "mad hatter" at the royal wedding?
