One Designer, Two Ways: Givenchy

Posted by babu 2:52pm GMT

I love silk and chiffon, as well as prints, so when they're combined, I am in fashion heaven.

Mila Kunis hit it right on the mark in her partially-sheer, printed Givenchy number at Spike TV's 5th Annual 2011 "Guys Choice" Awards.

Singer Florence Welch took a more modest (and intense) approach to the Pre-Fall 2011 collection, wearing a blouse and longer, partially-sheer skirt paired with a matching blazer (she even went as far as to wear a matching purse and bootie) during Paris Fashion Week back in March.

While I can appreciate Florence's dedication to the designer collection, there's no central focus to her look (with so much of the same print, she reminds me of a screensaver), whereas Mila's styling allows her ensemble to breathe. Let this serve a classic example of "less is more."

Which style is the right way, and which one needs to hit the highway? You tell me in the comment section below.

Dare to Wear: Florence Welch

Posted by babu 3:34pm GMT

Florence Welch played peek-a-boo with onlookers in what looked like a vintage tablecloth (designed by Anna Sui) paired with an eye-shadowing fedora.

The indie pop singer completed her eclectic ensemble with Mary Janes and a Chanel chain bag.

Would you dare to wear this look?

This Week's Fab Five

Posted by babu 3:18pm GMT

This week was all about dramatic gowns. And the winners are...

Ciara
in a fringed Givenchy Couture number at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. Equal parts feminine and fierce, this lace and fringe gown proved one of my favorites at the awards. I also think it fits Ciara's style personality perfectly.

Eva Mendes in a flowy Zac Posen gown at "The Other Guys" premiere in Moscow. The faint floral print and cream chiffon fabric of this dress really come together to create a soft, almost whimsical, feel.

Florence Welch in a gold Givenchy Couture gown at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. Between the lace and allover gold beading, every inch of this gown reads high glamour. The geometric paneling along the waistline and zipper down the front serve as modern touches to the otherwise old fashioned design.

Malin Akerman
in a red ombre J. Mendel gown at "The Bang Bang Club" premiere in Toronto. The rich red shades and futuristic cut of this fishtail gown are as delightful as they are devilish. Malin pulls off the look with flying colors.

Selena Gomez
in a metallic Reem Acra gown at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. Purple beading along the neckine adds more dimension to this futuristic, corseted creation.

Which star's dramatic style is most desirable?

Red-Carpet Recap: 2010 MTV Video Music Awards

Posted by babu 11:59am GMT

As usual, the red carpet at last night's MTV Video Music Awards proved a shock-value showcase.

Some of the more notable looks included those of Ciara (in a feather-trimmed Givenchy gown), Katy Perry (rocking a black and white illusionary inset dress from Marchesa), Selena Gomez (in a metallic Reem Acra bustier gown), Evan Rachel Wood (working a leopard-ombre Gucci Resort 2011 dress) and Florence Welch (gleaming in a gold-sequined Givenchy gown).

My top two looks had to be those of Ciara and Florence, making Givenchy my designer pick for the night.

Which star's shocking style is your fave?
