Worst Dressed at the 2012 Grammy Awards

From "RoboCop" to Tassle Pits, the 2012 Grammy Awards had no shortage of cuckoo contenders.

Red (carpet) flags included Sasha Gradiva (who accessorized with an armful of guns), Bonnie McKee (who looked like she had gold-spun hair cascading from her armpits), Robyn (who took her look to new heights with mega-wedge work boots) and last, but certainly not least, Nicki Minaj (who payed tribute to her new single "Roman Holiday" in a hooded Versace ensemble, accompanied by a costumed pope).

Battle of the Plastics: Katy Perry vs. Nicki Minaj

It looks like the ticket to plastic stardom is a colorful coif.

Singers Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj have both been made into one-of-a-kind Barbie dolls to be auctioned off for the Project Angel Food Charity with starting bids set at $1,000.

The Katy doll, created by Mattel designer Amy Lee, was supposedly inspired by the "Kissed a Girl" cupcake dress and features hand-painted tattoos, sparkling pink shoes and a candy cane-themed mic, while the Nicki doll (designed by Stephen Summer) was inspired by the singer's "Pink Friday" album and comes complete with yards of tulle, pink booties and lots of bling.

One Designer, Two Ways: Versace

Nicki Minaj worked it in a black Versace gown with tracings of white at Billboard's Sixth Annual Women In Music Event this past weekend.

Blake Lively wore an inverse (and shorter) make from the same mold (that being the Resort 2012 collection) just a few weeks back at the Versace For H&M Fashion Event in New York.

While each style is fit for a different occasion, I don't like how Blake sucked the life out of her dress with a basic blazer and matching tights and shoes, so I'm giving this one to Nicki.

Versace for H&M Collection Not For "Real Women"

Versace creative director Donatella Versace, shown above with Nicki Minaj at the Versace for H&M Launch Party in New York, has recently come under fire for reportedly dismissing the proposal of an ad campaign featuring "real women" size 0-6.

While the term "less is more" certainly applies to the runway model sect (magazines have become a little more forgiving over the past few years), news of Donatella's recent insinuations is hitting a nerve because the reason designer collaborations are so popular is because they allow the average Jane (small salary, curves and all) to indulge.

Many celebs seize the opportunity to go undercover on Halloween, but for these leading ladies, playing dress up is par for the everyday course:

1. Lady Gaga: From meat dresses to Marie Antoinette-worthy ensembles, there is always a trick up this performer's sleeve.

2. Nicki Minaj: It's not unusual to find this modern-day Rainbow Brite splashed in color or "wigging" out.

3. Jessie J: From barely-there to out there, the pop singer's unique ensembles are off the map.

4. Paloma Faith: There are few toppers this hat-hawking British performer hasn't tried.

5. Katy Perry: Whether covered in sushi or broken records, Katy never misses the opportunity to get in on the themed fun.

Color-Coordinated Hair and Clothing: Trend or Foe?

In a world where matching separates have taken the backseat to a turn-table of patterns and color-blocking, celebs like Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj and Lady Gaga are making their mark in monotones, going as far as to color-coordinate their strands with the rest of their ensembles.

I have to admit I find this trend a tad liberating when considering the day when a woman would go through great lengths to find a dye that best matched her natural shade and then schedule touch-ups accordingly.

That said, I would file this one in the "Don't try this at home" folder unless you can invest in a few good wigs (and don't plan on sitting in on any corporate meetings any time soon).

Style Showdown: Jessie J vs. Nicki Minaj

English songwriter Jessie J (who has been popping up everywhere lately!) showed some "fake" skin in an illusionary-inset Mark Fast leotard at the "Demons Never Die" premiere in London.

If you recall, the equally adventurous Nicki Minaj wore a slightly more conservative version of the same body-hugging (and sequined) contraption to this year's Billboard Music Awards back in May.

I like how the extra coverage on Nicki's creation helped to smooth out her look (Jessie's barely-there bodice was a tad distracting), so I'm giving this one to her.

Dare to Wear: Nicki Minaj

To say Nicki Minaj marches to the beat of her own drum (or in her latest case, a turkey drum) would be a huge understatement.

Not one to take herself too seriously, the singer (who I recently had the pleasure of seeing perform with Britney Spears on the Femme Fatale tour) proved she's ready for anything (and that her audience should be too) in a bra top, umbrella skirt and rain boots while performing on today's "Good Morning America" segment.

She topped off her '80s style with colorful jewelry (including a keyboard ring) and a snack.
