Style Showdown: Cheryl Cole vs. Zooey Deschanel

Singer and former "X Factor" judge Cheryl Cole wore a ruffle-collared Moschino peplum sheath to the attend singer Kimberley Walsh's debut in "Shrek The Musical" at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London.

"New Girl" star Zooey Deschanel wore the two-toned creation to the "Our Idiot Brother" premiere in Los Angeles back in August.

While I'm still on the fence when it comes to this dress (which I once dubbed the "sophisticated clown costume"), I like how Cheryl's played up its playful nature with coordinating cap-toe pumps, so I'm giving this one to her.

Dare to Wear: Cheryl Cole

Cheryl Cole was a walking color-block DON'T at recent auditions for "The X Factor" in Los Angeles.

While "The X Factor" judge and singer had the right idea when she decided to pair a tangerine Oscar de la Renta blouse with purple Diane von Furstenberg pants, it seems as though she forgot one of the classic color-blocking rules: When combining two or more colors, make sure the cut and style of your ensemble is streamlined so as to not overcomplicate (and ruin) an already-busy outfit.

I also would've liked to have seen her accessorize her look with a belt within the primary color family, as the pastel blue looked a bit off.

Red Carpet Recap: 2011 Elle Style Awards

Celebs jumped off of the red carpet in a rainbow of colors at the 2011 Elle Style Awards.

Some of my favorite looks included those of Emma Watson (who looked sexy and skater-esque in a Hakaan cutout dress ), Blake Lively (who was a breath of fresh air in a sky-blue Emilio Pucci gown and fuchsia peep-toes) and Thandie Newton (who looked vibrant in a violet Louis Vuitton gown blooming with a breezy, floral print).

Alexa Chung (in a blue YSL dress) and Cheryl Cole (in a plunging, red Alexander McQueen gown) completed the colorful display.

Nicole Richie took the red-carpet cake at the Glamour Women Of The Year Awards last night, where she wore a peach-colored gown from her Winter Kate collection.

She was joined by celebs like Zoe Saldana (in a sexy Vionnet LBD) and Anna Kendrick, who failed to impress me in a gold Gianfranco Ferre dress and booties.

At least that was the mindset of Cheryl Cole, who appeared four-legged during an opening performance for The Black Eyed Peas concert this past weekend.
