One Designer, Two Ways: Oscar de la Renta

Author J.K. Rowling looked gorgeous in a gardenesque Oscar de la Renta gown recently at the "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2" premiere.

If you recall, Rihanna was the first to prove a budding beauty in a red and white version of the same floral gown while performing at the 2011 Brit Awards back in February.

While both ladies did a great job of choosing the perfect color scheme for their individual hair and skin types, I tend to prefer the sharp contrast of the red roses against the white backdrop as modeled by Rihanna. It just oozes romance!

Dare to Wear: Cheryl Cole

Cheryl Cole was a walking color-block DON'T at recent auditions for "The X Factor" in Los Angeles.

While "The X Factor" judge and singer had the right idea when she decided to pair a tangerine Oscar de la Renta blouse with purple Diane von Furstenberg pants, it seems as though she forgot one of the classic color-blocking rules: When combining two or more colors, make sure the cut and style of your ensemble is streamlined so as to not overcomplicate (and ruin) an already-busy outfit.

I also would've liked to have seen her accessorize her look with a belt within the primary color family, as the pastel blue looked a bit off.

Quick-Change Artist: Eva Mendes

Eva Mendes rocked a gray cocktail dress from the Oscar de la Renta Resort 2011 collection at "The Other Guys" premiere yesterday in New York.

The same day, Eva was spotted in the shiny sheath sans tie-on skirt while leaving her hotel in New York.

While I definitely think the dressier, "with skirt" adaptation is more red-carpet appropriate, I tend to prefer the 1.0 version overall.

Downgrade: Lea Michele Clowns Around With Color

Not even two weeks after Lea Michele wowed onlookers in a champagne Oscar de la Renta gown at the Time 100 Gala, she had to go and leave a bad taste in our mouths with her Fox Upfront look.

Complete with burgundy lipstick and a high bun, the "Glee" star's Erdem mini proved the central focus of her color catastrophe.

Red-Carpet Recap: Three Dresses for "Valentine's Day"

Are you ready for "Valentine's Day" -- the movie? At the star-studded premiere of the celeb-packed new film, Jennifer Garner, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Biel showed off their dress picks for the big night.

Garner glowed in a sexy Valentino strapless style that oozed sex appeal (the mommy to two still has it!), while Hathaway went even shorter with her sassy Marchesa mini. And Biel revealed a more over-the-top gown (in V-Day red) by red carpet dress master Oscar de la Renta.
