Red-Carpet Recap: 2011 Palm Springs International Film Festival

Posted by babu 3:08pm GMT

The Palm Springs International Film Festival kicked off last Thursday.

So far, some of my favorite styles to come out of the festival include those of Carey Mulligan (who looked ravishingly retro in an eggplant Prada tea dress with allover quilt-like detailing) and Natalie Portman (who ditched the status quo in a partially sheer, cream and navy Vionnet shift dress with gold sequin detailing along the collar).

Joining them were Amy Adams (in an asymmetrical, blue sheath that managed to completely flatten her chest), Helen Mirren (in a lavender, silk gown with allover floral detailing and black cardigan) and Rashida Jones (in a printed blouse and full skirt duo paired with zigzag, ankle-cuff platforms).

Cosmic Prints: Trend or Foe?

Posted by babu 2:56pm GMT

Celebs like Carey Mulligan, Hilary Duff and Kate Hudson have Hollywood literally seeing stars!

"Double Dipper" Carey sported her second galactic getup since September at the 2010 Dubai International Film Festival yesterday, while cosmic clones Hilary and Kate have taken the more casual route in oversize tees.

What's your take on cosmic fashions?

Red-Carpet Recap: 7th Annual CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards

Posted by babu 4:32pm GMT

Call it a fashionista's playground; one can always can count on the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards for fresh faces and fearless fashions.

This year, some of my top looks included those of Kim Kardashian (who kept her Greek goddess streak going in a draped Zac Posen gown with heavy beading along the scooped neckline), Carey Mulligan (who was having a magic moment in a rich-colored, sequined Chanel sheath with matching jacket) and Blake Lively (who oozed sex appeal in a jersey and sheer Chanel LBD with beautiful embroidering from the torso down and burgundy pumps).

Also on my "IT" list were Anna Paquin (who kept people guessing in a multicolored Richard Chai sheath) and Leighton Meester (who looked funky-fresh in a heavily embellished and tiered Prabal Gurung dress).

Which celeb's fashion-forward look is your fave?

This Week's Fab Five

Posted by babu 3:33pm GMT

This week was all about the classics. And the winners are...

Anne Hathaway in Antonio Berardi at the "Love & Other Drugs" premiere in Hollywood. Much like myself, Anne has an appreciation for classic styles with modern, and often unexpected, twists. This dress, which features a sexy, lace inset and futuristic folded panels along the waist is no exception.

Olivia Wilde
in Michael Kors at the 2010 BAFTA Los Angeles Britannia Awards. Olivia relies not on color or design, but rather a combination of different textures (in this case a plunging cashmere top and, the star of the show, a sequined fishtail skirt) to make this look, which is as sensational as it is simplistic.

Carey Mulligan
in Preen at the 2010 BAFTA Los Angeles Britannia Awards. When I first saw this look, my eyes were immediately drawn to Carey's bright blue, suede platforms, which added a playful touch to her otherwise refined paisley-beaded blouse and full skirt ensemble and popped against the red carpet.

Sienna Miller
in Stella McCartney at the UNESCO Charity Gala in Germany. This blush-ccolored gown, which boasts a plunging lace top and a silky smooth skirt, is the epitome of glamour. The actress topped off her look with a diamond collar and drop earrings.

Julianne Moore
in Alexander McQueen at the Bvlgari Express for Save The Children Party in Rome. After the stunt Julianne pulled at "The Kids Are Alright" premiere in London (see her look here), it was refreshing to see her redeem herself in this lace-inset sheath, which she topped off with Christian Louboutin sandals.

Red-Carpet Recap: 14th Annual Hollywood Awards Gala

Posted by babu 12:43pm GMT

Stars oozed sex appeal in a variety of sparkly, curve-skimming sheaths at the 14th Annual Hollywood Awards Gala.

Some of my favorite looks included those of Hilary Swank (who looked red-hot in a poppy-colored and heavily-beaded asymmetrical sheath from Giorgio Armani), Halle Berry (who shimmered in a plunging tunic with allover sequin detail), Milla Jovovich (who made her mark in a melon gown embellished at the waist), Mia Wasikowska (who rocked a two-toned-metallic number with fringe outlining) and, last but not least, Miss Carey Mulligan (who looked demure in a wine-colored sheath from the Giles Resort 2011 collection).

Which star's gala style is most gorgeous?

Style Steal: Carey Mulligan's Pleated Proenza Schouler Dress

Posted by babu 5:38pm GMT

Okay, so maybe it's not an exact color match, but the first thing I thought of when I saw Carey Mulligan in her adorable, mustard-colored Proenza Schouler dress (left) at the "Never Let Me Go" premiere in London was the similarly-pleated (and paneled) MNG by Mango dress (right) that I've had my eye on ever since I saw it featured in one of my fashion mags a few months back.

Wear it by itself or further mimic Carey's style by cinching it with a black ribbon or belt at the waist.

This Week's Fab Five

Posted by babu 12:26pm GMT

This week was all about the perfect cocktail dress. And the winners are...

Keira Knightley in Chanel at the “Never Let Me Go” premiere in London. Beautifully-knit fabric and intricate beading makes for a more sophisticated (and glamorous) take on the cutout trend.

Carey Mulligan in Proenza Schouler at the “Never Let Me Go” premiere in London. The perfect "Mad Men" make, Carey's full-skirted LBD with ochre, chiffon overlay is feminine without verging on frou-frou. I also love the black panels along the shoulders, as they add extra intrigue to the look.

Angie Harmon
in Naeem Khan at the Conde Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards in New York. Previously worn by Lindsay Price, let this dress serve as an example of how feathers should be worn. Because the colors and design in the dress, as well as accessories, are fairly neutral, the extravagant details in Angie's look are able to shine instead of compete.

Tinsley Mortimer in a bow-clad bubble dress at the 2nd Annual ESPN The Magazine's "Body" Event in New York. Never one to shy away from the limelight, the multicolored, sponge-like canvas that is Tinsley's dress is to die (or shall I say dye) for.

Kerry Washington in Ports 1961 at the Conde Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards in New York. While I would've preferred to see the actress pair her partially-sheer, champagne sheath with nude accessories rather than white, there's no denying she looked gorgeous in this dress, which is brought to life by champagne and teal-colored sequins scattered throughout.

Cannes Film Festival (Cont.)

Posted by babu 12:03pm GMT

The good times continue to roll as celebs like Aishwarya Rai, Carey Mulligan and Eva Longoria make an appearance for Cannes Film Festival: Day 2.

Aishwarya (in Armani Privé) and Eva (in Naeem Khan) both opted for beautifully beaded gowns, while Carey kept it simple in a belted sheath.

This Week's Fab Five

Posted by babu 12:18pm GMT

This week was all about the sexiest sheaths. And the winners are...

Jessica Alba sizzling in a Proenza Schouler shift dress at the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival Program Celebration in West Hollywood. As if the colorful, spotty print of this dress weren't fun enough, Jessica heated things up with color-coordinated heels, makeup and jewelry.

Ginnifer Goodwin ravishing in a red Valentino sheath at the 24th Genesis Awards. I love how Ginnifer breathes new life into the (yawn!) black lace trend by choosing a bright shade of red (while this dress is from the pre-fall collection, I'd say it's also perfect for spring)

Miley Cyrus rocking an asymmetrical leather sheath at "The Last Song" premiere in Los Angeles. Ruffle detailing along the shoulder of this bodyhugger adds a flirty touch.

Kristen Bell glowing in a soft lilac Alberta Ferretti dress at the Geffen Fundraiser in Los Angeles. Kristen tops off her perfectly-polished look with a pair of ankle-strap heels, which have become a huge trend on the red carpet lately.

Carey Mulligan
charming in a tweed Chanel sheath at "The Greatest" premiere in Los Angeles. While this dress is no doubt sophisticated, Carey adds a youthful touch with a pair of black and gold heels with fan-like detailing along the sides and heel.

Which star's red-carpet sheath is sexiest?

This Week's Fab Five

Posted by babu 6:21pm GMT

This week was all about high sheen. And the winners are...

Penlope Cruz, stunning in a geometric Versace gown at the 2010 Goya Awards. Proving the saying "You can't judge a book by its cover," this dress appears sophisticated on the front end, while two zippers down the back hint at a wilder side.

Leona Lewis
in a steel-gray William Tempest mini at the 2010 Brit Awards. Hot-pink pumps and an edgy cuff pack extra punch into this futuristic creation.

Camilla Belle, radiating in a magenta Marchesa gown at the 60th Berlin International Film Festival. Gem-encrusted leaves along the bodice of this ethereal gown give it a garden-goddess feel.

Marion Cotillard, smoking in a satin and lace Christian Dior Couture bodice at the "Nine" premiere in Paris. The actress completed the sassy-sweet number (love the geometric, corset-like boning) with matching ankle-strap heels.

Carey Mulligan
, charming in a satin Nina Ricci gown at the London Critics' Circle Film Awards. While simple, this dress has an innocence about it that I can't help but admire. I also love the flowers along the hip and at the shoulder of this gown (just precious!).

Whose red-carpet look is most radiant?
