This Week's Fab Five

Posted by babu 5:00pm GMT

This week was all about the 2011 Met Gala. And the winners are...

Dakota Fanning
in Valentino Resort. The young actress, who is known for wearing Valentino on the red carpet, looked like a fairytale come true in this tulle gown, which was blooming with floral apploques.

Ginnifer Goodwin in Topshop Unique. The "Something Borrowed" actress made a bold statement in this emerald green cutout gown, which she accessorized with turquoise-hinted jewelry, shoes and makeup.

Ashley Greene in Donna Karan. The "Twilight" star stole the spotlight in this sequin-covered gown, which featured a sweetheart neckline and a train for extra drama.

Maggie Gyllenhaal in Stella McCartney. Perhaps one of my biggest surprises of the night, the usually casual Maggie was the epitome of glamour in this sparkling, midnight-hued gown, which coasted along the actress's every curve.

Diane Kruger in Jason Wu. This gown (which was designed by one of Diane's favorite designers) struck the perfect balance between sophisticated and sexy. The intricate sequin detailing along its bodice and Diane's exposed leg were equally eye-catching.

Costume Institute Gala MISSES

Posted by babu 3:42pm GMT

As always, this year's Costume Institute Gala's marvels were met with some serious missteps.

Some of my fugly favorites included...

Mila Kunis wearing a strapless Vera Wang number. The allover black and white tulle created somewhat of a corpse bride effect.

Elizabeth Banks sporting a fringed and feathered LBD. As if this dress didn't draw enough attention by itself, the actress added more dimension to her look with cutout tights.

Kristen Stewart
in a Chanel LBD. This mighty miss of a dress came equipped with its own private viewing curtain (the "Twilight" star also loses points for that hairstyle!).

Katy Perry glowing (literally) in a battery-operated CuteCircuit gown. The singer, who was also recently spotted wearing light-up shoes, amped things up even further with a thigh-high slit.

M.I.A.
in a gold and black Alexander Wang for Gap gown. It's a shame that the singer wasn't really M.I.A. for this event, and that the gala wasn't spared this crocheted catastrophe.

Which star's style proved the biggest gala miss?

Dare to Wear: Maggie Gyllenhaal

Posted by babu 10:50am GMT

Maggie Gyllenhaal paired a multicolored, snakeskin-printed frock with a navy blue, striped sweater for a visit to the LOFT Launch Of Style Studio in New York this week.

Let this serve as a classic example of how NOT to mix and match prints.

Would you dare to wear this look?

Red-Carpet Recap: Metropolitan Opera Premiere of "Armida"

Posted by babu 12:16pm GMT

The Metropolitan Opera Gala Premiere Of "Armida" took place last night in New York. Some of my favorite looks included those of Maggie Gyllenhaal and Camilla Belle (both in Yves Saint Laurent) and Ginnifer Goodwin, who was polished to perfection in a sweetheart-cut bustier and harem pants. I just love how the actress added a pop of color with cobalt heels and a matching clutch.

While I was impartial to Jennifer Morrison's look, I was a tad thrown off by Chloe Sevigny's black jumper and glove combo (then again, this is Chloe we're talking about).

Red-Carpet Denim: Trend or Foe?

Posted by babu 12:44pm GMT

Is Hollywood having a dress-down day?

While stars like Beyonce and Rihanna continue to break out the bells and whistles on the red-carpet, more and more celebs are slipping into their favorite pair of jeans and calling it a day.

Just this week, I spotted Selena Gomez, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Tina Fey sporting denim (paired with casual tops) while running the press circuit.

Is denim the new black-tie optional?

Dare to Wear: Maggie Gyllenhaal

Posted by babu 1:01pm GMT

It's not unusual for a gal to go through a period of bra angst during her pubescent years. Apparently, Maggie Gyllenhaal never got over that hurdle.

The actress looked daringly droopy at the 25th Film Independent Spirit Awards, wearing a plunging black Lanvin wrap dress that offered little support.

Perhaps if she'd opted out of the black-tights-and-shoes combo, she also wouldn't have looked so Wicked Witch of the West.

Would you dare to wear this look?

Posted by babu 1:13pm GMT

Whether she’s taking risks in action films like “The Dark Knight” or sporting a bright blue cheetah print on the red carpet, one thing about Maggie Gyllenhaal is certain: She’s not afraid of a challenge.

Here, we pay tribute to the Best Supporting Actress Oscar nominee (for her role in “Crazy Heart”) by taking a look back at some of her most notable looks yet.

PETA's 'Worst-Dressed' Celebrities 2009

Posted by babu 6:03pm GMT

PETA recently named Madonna as the #1 celebrity fur offender of 2009.

Other celebrity fur-pas according to the list include the Olsen twins, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Kanye West and Elizabeth Hurley.

Looking for a chic, faux-fur alternative? I'm obsessed with this MICHAEL Michael Kors Faux Coyote Fur Vest, now on sale for $62.65 at Bloomingdales.com, that our Entertainment Producer Addie is wearing right now (result of picture ambush shown below). Doesn't she look fab?!

Read the full PETA article, and watch an anti-fur video from Project Runway's Tim Gunn, at Peta.org.
