Dare to Wear: Nicole Kidman

Posted by babu 11:39am GMT

Nicole Kidman has a way of taking sexy styles and ruining them with bad styling (see SAG Awards).

The country crooner wore a leather blazer and pencil skirt from no other than L'Wren Scott to the "Just Go With It" premiere and, while the leatherette look might have worked on someone like Angelina Jolie or Halle Berry, it fell a bit flat on her.

I certainly don't think Nicole's tie-neck blouse, strappy sandals and sheepish stance helped matters any.

Dare to Wear: Nicole Kidman

Posted by babu 1:44pm GMT

As usual, Nicole Kidman was dressed to distress at this year's Academy of Country Music Awards, wearing a black and white tuxedo dress created by one of her beloved designers, L'Wren Scott.

I wouldn't have been surprised to see the thinning actress mistaken for a cocktail waitress.

Would you dare to wear this look?

Style Showdown: Jessica vs. Reese

Posted by babu 11:00am GMT

Jessica Simpson perked up in a bright pink and black L'Wren Scott sheath for her recent appearance on the "Late Show With David Letterman."

Reese Witherspoon opted for a shortened version of the same swirly sensation at the launch of her "In Bloom" Avon fragrance back in October.

I believe less (dress) is more when it comes to a busy print such as this one, so I'm going to have to give this one to Reese.

Which star looks lovelier in L'Wren Scott?

Rule Breakers or Trend Makers: Loading Up on Lace

Posted by babu 3:41pm GMT

Though stars’ latest lace looks may not be the same dramatic floor-sweeping all-lace designs that pop up during awards shows, it doesn’t mean the missing yards of lace make for a less impressive dress.

For a recent Sherlock Holmes premiere, Blake Lively, in a nearly sheer Dolce & Gabbana mini, upstaged the other stars on the red carpet that are actually IN the movie.

For the star-packed “Nine” premiere in New York, mother and daughter Madonna and Lourdes kept all eyes on them in coordinated, yet individualistic, Dolce & Gabbana lace looks.

But when Nicole Kidman topped her L’Wren Scott sheath with a poofy lace capelet on December 9 for a screening of “Nine” in California, the fashion reviews were less than favorable.

Style Showdown: Nicole Richie vs. Jennifer Lopez

Posted by babu 1:33pm GMT

Just when the noise began to lull and I thought the L'Wren Scott match was officially over, a new competitor entered the ring.

Nicole Richie, who just had her second baby mere months ago, was spotted working it in what has become the famous strapless, ivory dress (previously worn by all three of Jennifer Lopez, Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Love Hewitt) from the designer's Spring 2009 collection at the House of Harlow 1960 Holiday Collection Launch in Los Angeles.

I chose to pin the TV star and designer up against Miss Lopez because I think they both exude a rather sexy, boho-chic vibe in the dress and, while I appreciate Nicole's snakeskin pump pairing, I'm going to have to give this one to JLo's K.O. curves.

I’m Obsessed With: Zoe Saldana’s Perfect Casual Date Look

Posted by babu 1:19pm GMT

Could a single outfit possibly overtake my infamous Kate Moss style obsession? Answer: Yes! Especially when it is an oh-so-Kate-Moss look worn by the equally chic “Avatar” star Zoe Saldana.

For a visit to “The Late Show with David Letterman” in NYC yesterday, Saldana went for a sexy but sassy ensemble in white pants, grey tunic and a sharp, well-cut (and versatile) cropped navy blazer. While the overall look is classic, the leather-like pants up the chic (and cool) factor 10-fold!

I’m Obsessed With: Sarah Jessica Parker's Pink Premiere

Posted by babu 12:54pm GMT

Pink dresses (as we reported a few days ago) are the new stars of the red carpet, but leave it to true trendsetter Sarah Jessica Parker to take fuchsia fashion, at the premiere of her film "What About The Morgans" last night, to a new level. With her funky fedora, stellar satin stilettos and charming vintage-style snake choker, "SJP" could easily stand for "Stylish-and-Jaunty-in-Pink."

There is just so much style packed into SJP's outfit, it deserves a serious head-to-toe review:

- THAT hat! Pink to match the dress and destined to be the next "Carrie" necklace that was spotted on SJP style followers years back.

- SJP wears whimsical flowers on her lapel, which reminds us of our beloved style icon Carrie Bradshaw.

- The stone-inlaid snake necklace is a signature look for Sarah, who often pairs vintage accessories with her designer dresses.

- Her pink L'Wren Scott dress is sweeter than sweet and would be such a great look for any party over the next six months (make sure to get hold of a similar style for Valentine's Day, for sure!)

- The effect of seeing her stunning plum suede platforms can be expressed in just two words: "We die!"

What do you think of Sarah Jessica Parker's pink lady look?

Trend to Try: Cheerful Magenta Dresses

Posted by babu 11:48am GMT

Got the winter blues? Then time to try out a magenta-hued dress for your next night out to pick up your spirits. I mean, how can you NOT be happy and beaming in this fun fuchsia shade?

Kerry Washington was the latest to try to the trend with her origami Marchesa dress at the Broadway opening of the play “Race” in NYC, while Marisa Tomei turned up in a very "Mad Men" 1950s vintage Jean Desses Haute Couture at the MOCA museum anniversary celebration in LA. Weeks earlier, Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon both chose designs from L’Wren Scott exactly a month apart.
