Dare to Wear: Tinsley Mortimer

Posted by babu 12:28pm GMT

At first glance, Tinsley Mortimer (who I had the pleasure of seeing in person at a recent Dannijo preview in New York) looked like she was wrapped in a giant puzzle at the Eighth Annual New Yorkers for Children Spring Dinner Dance.

A closer look would reveal a splashy, abstract print gown (from Christian Dior). While I have to hand it to the socialite for taking such a bold move, and actually like the print, there's just too much flare (and fabric) for me to get my head around.

Dior Claims "Zero Tolerance" and Suspends John Galliano

Posted by babu 11:26am GMT

Brace yourselves!

According to reports, Christian Dior has suspended creative director John Galliano pending an investigation into AFP reports suggesting that the designer was apprehended in Paris last night for assault, following an altercation in the city's Marais district during which he allegedly verbally abused a couple while under the influence.

While full details of the "attack" are still surfacing and therefore somewhat conflicted, this is what was reported today on Vogue.co.uk:

'Dior affirms with the utmost conviction its policy of zero tolerance towards any anti-Semitic or racist words or behaviour," Dior chief executive Sidney Toledano said in a statement. "Pending the results of the inquiry, Christian Dior has suspended John Galliano from his responsibilities.'

According to TMZ.com, 'Galliano's lawyer Stephane Zerbib told AFP the designer "formally denies the accusations of anti-Semitism made against him.'

Quick-Change Artist: Rihanna

Posted by babu 3:45pm GMT

Rihanna kept onlookers guessing in a variety of not two, not three, but at least SEVEN wardrobe changes in the duration of two shows.

Just two days after experimenting with a sheer, ruffled Jean Paul Gaultier gown and two stage costumes (one tribal bodysuit and one larger-than-life taffeta and tulle Christian Dior gown) at this year's Grammy Awards (bottom), the closet chameleon was at it again for the 2011 BRIT Awards (top), where she one-upped herself with four wardrobe changes, including a rosette-covered stage gown and a multicolored Christian Dior gown and matching pumps for the red carpet.

Which awards show yielded the best wardrobe changes?

Style Showdown: Chloe Moretz vs. Tinsley Mortimer

Posted by babu 11:50am GMT

Actress Chloe Moretz was a vision in a violet Christian Dior dress with beautiful lace and floral paneling at the Dior Illustrated: Rene Gruau and the Line of Beauty event in London.

If you recall, Tinsley Mortimer paired the same pretty piece (from the designer's Spring 2010 collection) with a bright pink clutch and shoes for the 7th Annual New Yorkers for Children Spring Dinner Dance back in April.

While Chloe did a good job of warming up her look with black tights for fall, the bright color and playful nature of Tinsley's accessories read hot, hot, hot!

Dare to Wear: Liv Tyler

Posted by babu 2:14pm GMT

Where's Gregory Behrendt (aka the "He's Just Not That Into You" guy) when you need him?!

Mere moments after reading about Liv Tyler's dating rut (People.com), I came across this photo of her and was able to see where she might have hit a bump in the road.

The talented (and beautiful!) actress ruined the flirty flow of her Christian Dior frock by layering it over a black, long-sleeve tee and tights, then concealing it with multiple strands of beads and what appeared to be feathers for the Christian Dior 57th Street Flagship opening in New York.

I would've preferred to see her pair the pretty piece with black tights only, cinching her style with a chic belt.

Dare to Wear: Marion Cotillard

Posted by babu 12:03pm GMT

Is that Helena Bonham Carter?!

Giving new meaning to the word "kinky," the increasingly unpredictable Marion Cotillard frightened onlookers in a feathered Christian Dior gown, blue eye shadow and what appeared to be a birds' nest on her head at the 2010 Marrakech Film Festival Opening Ceremony.

Dare to Wear: Marion Cotillard

Posted by babu 1:30pm GMT

Has the usually femininely-frocked Marion Cotillard officially traded in lace for leather?!

That's the impression she gave at the "Les Petits Mouchoirs" premiere in Paris, where she shocked onlookers in a leather LBD (designed by Christian Dior) and a much darker hair and makeup palette.

Perhaps most disturbing is the fact that the actress's dress appeared to be busting at the seams. I wonder if, in true leather fashion, the material adhered to her skin before making it past her bodice.

Style Showdown: Liz vs. Elizabeth

Posted by babu 2:50pm GMT

Art director Liz Goldwyn paid tribute to Christian Dior by wearing a leopard, belted sheath to the Kimberly Brooks' "The Stylist Project" Exhibition, hosted by both Dior and Vanity Fair, last night.

I was first wooed by the dress's wild print when I spotted it (no pun intended) on actress Elizabeth Banks at the Lionsgate Pre-Golden Globe Party in mid-January.

Both ladies accessorized with a black clutch and red mani/pedi. I'm giving this one to Banks for hair and makeup.

Style Showdown: Rosie vs. Amber

Posted by babu 11:49am GMT

When I saw this Christian Dior gown on Amber Heard at the Third Annual Art Of Elysium "Heaven" Gala last month, it was love at first sight. Something about the mixture of textures (sheer netting, leather and satin), combined with the gown's overall retro-glam appeal screams modern Marilyn Monroe.

Suffice to say that when I spotted it on the red carpet for the second time (this time worn by Rosie Huntington at the Elle (UK) Style Awards), I fell all over again. While I'm still on the fence about who who wore it best, I'm beginning to lean toward Rosie's side.

Which star looked more darling in Dior?

Fashion Formula: Sarah Jessica Parker Continues Her Pink Streak

Posted by babu 1:33pm GMT

Either Sarah Jessica Parker has a serious fashion addiction for everything PINK, or she is just getting into the Valentine's Day spirit early. The stylista showed up AGAIN in another magenta look -- a Dior raspberry silk georgette and lace dress -- over the weekend at a human rights event in NYC.

Should Sarah Jessica Parker stop wearing pink?
