Selena Gomez Falls Under the Dolce & Gabbana Spell

Posted by babu 3:56pm GMT

And so the lacy Dolce & Gabbana mini saga continues...

Following the footsteps of Kate Bosworth, Diane Kruger and Alessandra Ambrosio, Selena Gomez wore the popular lacy (and embellished) mini from the Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2011 collection to the 22nd Annual MuchMusic Video Awards in Toronto this past weekend.

While I can see the allure of this dress (it's short, sparkly and quintessentially spring/summer), I can't help but think this dress has come to the end of its long and overused road.

Who looked loveliest in this lacy Dolce & Gabbana creation?

Bad Celebrity Coat Pairings

Posted by babu 6:15pm GMT

When it comes to fashion, few things frustrate me more than when a celebrity seemingly spends hours putting together a red-carpet look, and then ruins it by throwing on an uncomplimentary (or just plain bad) cover-up. Recent offenders include Kelly Osbourne, Kate Bosworth and January Jones, all of whom successfully spoiled their evening gowns with jackets that proved ill-fitting, too casual or (in Kate's case) both (add to that too hairy and from a different season).

Perhaps they should take a cue from Olivia Palermo, who's mastered not only the art of coat pairing, but also layering.

Which rookie's coat pairing proved worst?

Designer Prairie Dresses: Trend or Foe?

Posted by babu 1:14pm GMT

Did somebody call for a stable soiree?!

Actress Susann Atwell is the latest celeb to have jumped on Jil Sander's prairie dress wagon, following the likes of Kate Bosworth and Tilda Swinton.

While the baby tee and bed sheet look might come across to some as crisp and clean, I can't help but think the gowns are a tad too casual for the red carpet, especially since celebs aren't even attempting to up the ante with jewelry or accessories.

What's your take on designer prairie dresses?

This Week's Fab Five

Posted by babu 6:24pm GMT

This week was all about super flirty, some flowy. And the winners are...

Diane Kruger
in Gucci at the Gucci Rue Royale Reopening Party in Paris. Every once in a while, Diane switches up her "ladies who lunch" Chanel frocks with something a little daring, and I love it! The allover gold plating on this halter dress ooze tribal chic, and the actress's matching sandals prove the perfect complement.

Kate Bosworth in Dolce & Gabbana at the 2011 Creative Coalition Spotlight Initiative Awards in Utah. I love how the actress added a rustic, brown belt to really round out this otherwise fru-fru frock.

Jessica Alba in Gucci at the Gucci Rue Royale Reopening Party in Paris. This is one of those red carpet dresses that screams "I've still got it" or, in Miss Alba's case, "I never lost it." My only regret is that this sparkly, asymmetrical sensation wasn't around during the star's "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" days, as it would've made for the perfect premiere piece.

Caroline Sieber in Louis Vuitton at the Sidaction Gala Dinner in Paris. While the loose fit, lace fabric and feminine shape of the stylist's recent ensemble lend themselves to a softer, more feminine look, the bold color pairing is truly refreshing.

Heidi Klum in Marchesa at the InStyle Best of British Talent BAFTA Party in London. Between it's illusionary inset neckline, allover beading and feathered accents, this dress is as flirty as it is fierce! The Project Runway host topped off her playful piece with open-toe booties.

Which star's flirty frock is your fave?

Dare to Wear: Kate Bosworth

Posted by babu 12:38pm GMT

Don't get me wrong. I love Kate Bosworth's flowy, gardenesque Dolce & Gabbana dress, to which she added a rugged touch with a brown leather belt.

The problem is that, for a duration of her stay at the Mr. Chow Chefdance Dinner Party in Park City, Utah, no one could see it because it was hidden under the misfit that was her shearling-lined, jersey and leather bomber jacket.

Would you dare to wear this look?

Dare to Wear: Kate Bosworth

Posted by babu 12:03pm GMT

Kate Bosworth's focus was clearly on her makeup at the 2010 Hollywood Style Awards.

While the actress's porcelain palette was powdered to perfection, her casual creation (by Jil Sander) appeared more drab than fab.

Perhaps I would've appreciated the ensemble, which looked like a t-shirt tucked into a bed sheet, more if Kate had upped the ante with an interesting statement necklace and/or belt.

Would you dare to wear this look?

This Week's Fab Five

Posted by babu 1:42pm GMT

This week was all about fancy necklines. And the winners are...

Kim Kardashian
in a Grecian-goddess inspired gown at the 2010 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards. The beautifully-beaded bib collar makes this gown, which also features elegant draping along the bodice and skirt.

Leighton Meester
in Prabal Gurung at the 2010 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards. Leighton's red carpet style tends to be hit or miss, so I was pleasantly surprised when she choose this heavily-embellished, tiered and draped dress. Surprisingly, I also like her playful shoe pairing. Overall, her look reads daring without verging harsh.

Rose McGowan in Issa at the 2010 MOCA Gala. Rose proves nothing short of a temptress in this teal, silk jersey gown. I also love her choice of colorful, aquatone jewels. They really make her look pop.

Natalie Portman in Lanvin at the Second Annual Governors Awards. Natalie's looks always manage to straddle the fine line between playful and poised, and this asymmetrical, magenta Lanvin creation, which boasts a large, pom-pom rosette on the one shoulder, is no exception. The actress keeps the fin going with matching T-strap platforms in the same shade.

Kate Bosworth in Chanel at the 2010 MOCA Gala. Kate looks poised to perfection in the black Chanel gown, which features a sheer, floral-print inset along the waist. The actress keeps her makeup and hair fuss-free to correlate with her ensemble.

Which star's red-carpet style is fanciest?

Red-Carpet Recap: 2010 MOCA Gala

Posted by babu 2:27pm GMT

Subtle (okay, maybe not SO subtle) seduction was the name of the game at the 2010 MOCA Gala.

Some of my favorite looks included those of Kate Bosworth (who looked classic in a black chiffon Chanel gown with floral detailing), Kirsten Dunst (who radiated a soft elegance in a cream, multi-tiered chiffon Chanel gown and contrasting black clutch) and Rose McGowan (who proved quite the temptress in a teal Issa gown that plunged in front).

Runners-up included Chloe Sevigny (who broke the mold in a cream and black Chanel menswear number complete with suspenders) and Kristin Davis (who looked fit for the cha-cha in a red taffeta Oscar de la Renta dress).
