Hollywood Obsession: Houndstooth

Posted by kgranero 5:20pm GMT

Just two years after the houndstooth hysteria fueled by Alexander McQueen's Fall 2009 collection (left) took place, celebrities like Lady Gaga and Gwyneth Paltrow (the laundry list continues) are once again getting into the head-to-toe houndstooth habit (no doubt thanks to the checker-centric wildfire that has been Salvatore Ferragamo's Fall 2011 collection (middle).

Style Showdown: Khloe Kardashian vs. Tulisa Contostavlos

Posted by babu 11:46am GMT

Just one week after Tulisa Contostavlos wore a cobalt, black and white Alexander McQueenmini to the "The X Factor" auditions in London, Khloe Kardashian sported the same colorful creation at the HPNOTIQ Harmonie Launch Party in New York.

The bold print on this body-hugging bodicereally came to life against Khloe'scurves, so I'm giving this one to her. (Her sleekshoe choice also served to slenderize her legs.)

Alexander McQueen Tributes at the 2011 Met Gala

Posted by babu 3:09pm GMT

Kate Middleton and sister Pippa (along with numerous guest attendees) paid tribute to Alexander McQueen by wearing his designs during the royal wedding ceremony this past Friday.

Last night, celebrities continued to keep the late designer's memory alive at the "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty" Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Some of the more notable McQueen designs at the gala were worn by Sarah Jessica Parker, Gisele Bundchen, Salma Hayek and Naomi Campbell, and ranged from glamorous to gutsy.

One Designer, Two Ways: Alexander McQueen

Posted by babu 6:05pm GMT

Pippa Middleton, sister and maid of honor to Kate Middleton (now Catherine Duchess of Cambridge) looked stunning in a creamy, crepe gown designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen at the royal wedding.

If you recall, Cameron Diaz wore a similar version of the gown minus the lace embroidering along the cowl neck and sleeves (also by Alexander McQueen) to the 2010 Golden Globe Awards.

While I'm inclined to say I love the adaptation worn by Pippa because of the ease and grace in which she pulled it off and the magnitude of her event, I must say that I think each version of the dress was fit for its respective occasion.

Style Showdown: Kim Kardashian vs. Jennifer Hudson

Posted by babu 12:02pm GMT

Kim Kardashian sizzled in a plunging Alexander McQueen top with heavily embellished, sculpted shoulders at the launch for Unbreakable, the new fragrance by Khloe Kardashian and hubby Lamar Odom.

Jennifer Hudson made a statement in the gladiator-like getup during a performance at this year's Grammy Awards back in February.

While both leading ladies have the confidence to pull off this top, I thought Jennifer's exposed, lace bra looked a little cluttered, so I'm giving this one to Kim.

Style Showdown: Khloe Kardashian vs. Jessica Alba

Posted by babu 1:18pm GMT

Apparently, Kim wasn't the first Kardashian to steal a red-carpet style.

At this year's People's Choice Awards, younger sister Khloe wore a silver version of the strapless emerald Alexander McQueen worn by Jessica Alba three years earlier to the "Fantastic Four Rise of the Silver Surfer" premiere in Mexico City.

I happen to find this dress (find out who else has worn it here) to be universally flattering and, while I prefer the rich, emerald shade in general, I thought the silver worked well with Khloe's newly dyed 'do. This one's a draw for me.

Style Showdown: Salma vs. Emma

Posted by babu 12:47pm GMT

Salma Hayek looked city-chic in a grape Alexander McQueen sheath for her appearance on "The Late Show with David Letterman" yesterday, just days after the dress was spotted on former "Spice Girl" Emma Bunton at the "Arqiva Commercial Radio Awards" in London.

Salma's aviators, nude pumps and thick, gold bangle led to a much more polished look than that of Emma (whose black shoes competed with the dark hue of the dress), so I'm giving this one to her.

Style Showdown: Lorraine vs. Camilla

Posted by babu 1:34pm GMT

Elle editor-in-chief Lorraine Candy opted for a splashy, full-skirted Alexander McQueen dress for the 2010 Elle Style Awards.

If you recall, Camilla Belle wore the same colorful creation to the "2012" premiere in Los Angeles back in November.

I don't know if it was Camilla's tan or her dark hair, but the dress seemed to really pop on her, whereas it just kind of sat on Lorraine. I also preferred her beige pumps to Lorraine's gold, strappy heels.

Remembering Alexander McQueen

Posted by babu 12:00pm GMT

It's going to take me a while to fully digest this one. According to reports, British fashion mogul Lee (Alexander) McQueen was found dead this morning in his London home, after presumably taking his own life at the age of 40.

His secondary line, McQ, was set to debut at New York Fashion Week today but has been canceled. McQueen will forever be remembered for his innovative approach to fashion — one of his recent ads featured a model posing in a pile of slithering snakes — and unconventional runway tactics. Beloved by fashion-forward celebrities like Lady Gaga, Michelle Obama and Sarah Jessica Parker, McQueen also reached the masses last winter with the McQ Alexander McQueen for Target line.

Dare to Wear: Anna Paquin

Posted by babu 12:53pm GMT

"True Blood" actress Anna Paquin slithered her way into the 16th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards wearing a snakeskin-printed dress designed by Alexander McQueen.

While I don't necessarily dislike the dress, I find it a little more appropriate for Sookie's neck of the woods than the SAGs.

Would you dare to wear this look?
