This Week's Fab Five

Posted by kgranero 3:55pm GMT

This week was all about sheers and serious shimmer. And the winners are...

Claire Danes in Oscar de la Renta at the 2011 Emmy Awards. While Claire usually opts for more casual (read: flat) red-carpet fare, she looked fierce in this mosaic, sequin-paneled gown.

Liv Tyler in Stella McCartney at the 2011 New York City Ballet Fall Gala. The actress looked breathtaking in this burlesque-inspired gown, which featured intricate embroidering along the bodice.

Kerry Washington in Zuhair Murad at the 2011 Emmy Awards. The always-polished actress looked red-hot in this sweetheart gown, which boasted a partially sheer skirt and beautiful bugle beading throughout.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Burberry at the Moet & Chandon Etoile Award Gala Ceremony. Rosie proved you can still wear white after Labor Day, as long as you wear it well, in this charming gown complete with sheer, blouson sleeves and a deep-plunge neckline (which has really made a comeback on the red carpet as of late).

Evan Rachel Wood in Elie Saab at the 2011 Emmy Awards. Sculpted shoulders and allover sequins added a mod touch to this otherwise retro gown, which the actress accessorized with a metallic silver clutch.

Red Carpet Recap: 2011 Costumer Designers Guild Awards

Posted by babu 3:28pm GMT

Spring was in the air at the 13th Annual Costume Designers Guild Awards, which took place yesterday in Beverly Hills.

Some of my favorite looks included those of Halle Berry (who radiated in a red, chiffon Elie Saab gown with allover lace detailing), Kristin Davis (who looked quintessentially "Charlotte" in a white Oscar de la Renta gown with black polka-dots and a silk ribbon tied around the waist) and Claire Danes (who revealed an edgy side in a heavily embellished shift dress accessorized with a brown leather belt and peep-toes).

Ginnifer Goodwin
(in a plunging, black and gold-lame cocktail dress and gladiator heels) and Lisa Edelstein (in a shimmering off-the shoulder LBD and peep-toe panel heels) were also among celebs who attended the awards.

Best Dressed at the 2011 SAG Awards

Posted by babu 11:25am GMT

One by one, stars swept across the red carpet in a variety of breezy (and, in many cases, belted) evening gowns at the 2011 SAG Awards. And my top picks include...

Eva Longoria
in Georges Hobeika Couture. Watch out J. Lo! Not only was it refreshing to see Eva choose a gown that is neither BLACK nor FISHTAILED, but I am obsessed with the allover ruching on this plunging, crepe cutout gown.

Mila Kunis in Alexander McQueen. Call it a comeback but, just like Eva, newfound singledom seems to be doing Mila's body (and wardrobe) good. The actress, who proved a woman to watch at this year's Golden Globes, was at it again last night in this chiffon sweetheart gown with allover watercolor print. A sheer, cream-colored sash along the waist wrapped up her romantic, cha-cha-esque look.

Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta. I haven't exactly been swooning over Lea's red-carpet picks lately, so it's really nice to see her back on the best-dressed wagon. The "Glee" star exuded a head-to-toe glow in this creamy, wrap gown with allover shimmer. She added a modern touch of glam with a gold skinny belt at the waist.

Claire Danes in Louis Vuitton. While I've been on the fence about some of Claire's looks (including her neon pink Calvin Klein gown at this year's Golden Globes) in the past, there's no denying she looked gorgeous in this gardenesque gown, which was covered in silk floral appliques and topped off with a long, velvet belt. Her number one accessory? Husband Hugh Dancy.

Jayma Mays
in Jenny Packham. I especially love when younger stars pick Jenny Packham for the red carpet, because her designs are so fresh and free-spirited. Much like Emma Stone at the Golden Globes, Jayma was perfection in this polished, yet still playful, peach gown, which boasted sequin detailing along the shoulders. While I also loved Jayma's natural palette, I would've preferred to see her go with a simpler, less strap-heavy shoe.

Dare to Wear: Claire Danes

Posted by babu 12:02pm GMT

Is it just me, or is Claire Danes notorious for finding the ugliest needle in a great designer's haystack?

For her latest offense, Miss Danes wore a denim Z Spoke by Zac Posen dress with a fuzzy, hairlike black stripe across the chest.

The most baffling part of her look, of course, had to be the colorful, clown-like tie cascading from the dress's collar, which she attempted to coordinate with her eyeshadow.

Would you dare to wear this look?

Dare to Wear: Claire Danes

Posted by babu 5:38pm GMT

Claire Danes wore a multicolored, chiffon Valentino mini to the Roma Fiction Fest 2010 Ceremony Awards this past weekend.

While I hate to admit it (I mean, it IS Valentino we're talking about here!), I just can't get past the seaweed-like stripe along the one side of this dress (or the long, billowing of cloth along the other).

Would you dare to wear this look?

This Week's Fab Five

Posted by babu 5:15pm GMT

This week was all about Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture F/W 2011. And the winners are...

Olivia Palermo
in Valentino. The black and white watercolor print on this chiffon gown is classic. It gets bonus points for the oversized bow.

Jessica Alba
wearing Valentino. Between the rich, red color and layered ruffles along the neckline and side, this gown exudes romance.

Gwyneth Paltrow rocking Valentino. Netting along the collarbone adds an edgy touch to this otherwise soft, champagne gown.

Claire Danes in Valentino Couture. The neon yellow ruffles throughout this multi-tiered gown are right on trend for the season. I also like how the actress keeps her accessories to a minimum and let's the dress speak for itself.

Blake Lively in Chanel. From Blake's colorful earrings to her T-strap platforms, this look has fresh and flirty written all over it.

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture F/W 2011 Recap

Posted by babu 4:57pm GMT

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture F/W 2011 is in full swing. Some of my favorite celeb looks to have surfaced so far include:

Blake Lively
in a bohemian Chanel Resort dress at the Chanel show. From Blake's colorful earrings to her T-strap platforms, this look has fresh and flirty written all over it.

Olivia Palermo
rocking a fuchsia leopard-print dress at the Elie Saab show. Never one to shy away from a bold print, "The City" star ups the ante with a more neutral leopard belt.

Jessica Alba
in a full-skirted dress from the Chanel Spring 2010 collection at the Chanel show. While I love the dress, I would've preferred to see it paired with red shoes to tie together the matching lip and belt.

Claire Danes
wearing an ombre Armani Prive sheath at the designer's show. The actress accessorized her pastel creation with gold peep-toes and a matching gold clutch.

Leighton Meester
sporting a leather Chanel sheath at the Chanel show. While I love this dress, I would've liked to see Leighton forgo the heavy necklace and bangle. The dress makes a statement on its own.

Best-Dressed at the BAFTAs

Posted by babu 12:25pm GMT

Stars gathered at London's Royal Opera House last night to pay tribute to the year in British film at the 2010 Orange British Academy Awards. And my Best Dressed awards go to:

Vera Farmiga in Marchesa. While the romantic style and draping of this gown are quintessential Marchesa (from the Spring 2010 collection), the origami-style detailing along the shoulder offers a unique twist.

Saoirse Ronan in Burberry. The "Atonement" actress, who made her big debut this year in "The Lovely Bones," looked absolutely adorable in this playful, strapless dress with allover ruching. The denim belt also adds a youthful touch. Her style reminds me of that of fellow 15-year-old actress Dakota Fanning's: sweet and sassy.

Claire Danes
in Burberry. It came to no surprise that the always elegant actress opted for a more sophisticated design from the Burberry fashion house. The pleated panels throughout this metallic sensation, as well as draping throughout the skirt, offer a fresh take on Old Hollywood glam.

Audrey Tautou
in Lanvin. The French actress popped in a bright pink, off-the-shoulder cocktail dress that screamed party girl. Red accessories and a matching pout complete the playful look.

Bonnie Wright
in Prada. While the shape and color of this dress are rather soft-spoken, its cut and shape speak volumes. I also love how the champagne shade really draws attention to the "Harry Potter" star's fiery strands.

Check out more BAFTA photos, including those of Leading Actress winner Carey Mulligan and Orange Rising Star winner Kristen Stewart, on All the Looks.

Trend to Try: Belted Dresses

Posted by babu 8:44am GMT

Having a hard time trying to decide how to accessorize that new dress?

Take a tip from stars Zoe Saldana, Rachel Weisz and Claire Danes who prove that a simple belt topping a flirty dress is a cinch to get great style.

From Saldana's solid-topped floral to Dane's bejeweled belt over a simple sheath, almost any combination yields a red carpet-worthy look.

Celebrity Misfit: Claire Danes Stands Out at Gucci Pop-Up Store

Posted by babu 2:47pm GMT

Stars came out for the opening of the Gucci
pop-up store (the small boutique will live in NYC for only 2 weeks selling 20 styles of $500 sneakers, but few of the red-carpet Gucci bags and clothes that we really want – according to Racked).

But Claire Danes stood out from the other Gucci-clad celebs, Rachel Evan Wood, Mary J. Blige, Mischa Barton and dj Leigh Lezark, in an unusually resort-like shift dress.

But, alas, let us explain: Danes’ dress is actually from the Gucci 2010 Resort collection, so it is MEANT to be worn on the warm beaches of Ibiza, Spain during your annual winter get-away, DAH-ling (as IF any of us are rolling in that kind of cash these days).

And while Wood also went the bare legged and short dress route, her sequin dress is ideal for the upcoming holiday party season and was even shown on the Gucci Fall 2009 runway over toasty leggings.

What do you think of Claire Danes' summery dress for Fall?
