One Designer, Two Ways: Versace

Posted by kgranero 12:20pm GMT

Nicki Minaj worked it in a black Versace gown with tracings of white at Billboard's Sixth Annual Women In Music Event this past weekend.

Blake Lively wore an inverse (and shorter) make from the same mold (that being the Resort 2012 collection) just a few weeks back at the Versace For H&M Fashion Event in New York.

While each style is fit for a different occasion, I don't like how Blake sucked the life out of her dress with a basic blazer and matching tights and shoes, so I'm giving this one to Nicki.

Which style is the right way, and which one needs to hit the highway? You tell me in the comment section below.

One Designer, Two Ways: Versace

Kelly Rowland
looked fierce in an asymmetrical Versace bodice with turquoise, wave-like detailing at "The X Factor" Press Launch in London today.

If you recall, model/actress Rachel Nichols donned a similarly sporty dress with the same color scheme (also from the Fall 2011 collection) to the 2011 ESPY Awards in mid-July.

While both ladies worked it in their body-hugging creations, I like how the details on Kelly's dress are in the front where everyone can see them (I also prefer her brave bootie choice to Rachel's status quo pumps), so I'm giving this one to her.

Nothing screams "same designer collection" like a loud print, which is why I was immediately taken back to Daisy Lowe's stripy Versace crop top and pencil skirt pairing (donned at the 2011 Glamour Women of the Year Awards) when I came across this pic of Kelly Rowland wearing a similiarly colorful creation (from the same collection).

I like how the consistency of the verticle stripes on Kelly's version create a nice flow, whereas Daisy's mismatched prints compete for attention, so I'm giving this one to her.

Versace to Design Fall Collection for H&M

Posted by babu 12:17pm GMT

Brace yourselves!

H&M recently announced its fall 2011 designer collaboration will be with legendary Italian fashion label Versace.

Designed by Versace creative director Donatella Versace, the exclusive collection will include lines for both men and women and will recall the vibrant heritage of the brand. The women's collection will be dominated by dresses featuring studded leather, silk and colorful prints, along with accessories including high heels and costume jewelry, each at an affordable price point.

"I am thrilled to be collaborating with H&M and to have the opportunity of reaching their wide audience. The collection will be quintessential Versace, perfect for H&M and Versace fans everywhere," says Donatella Versace.

Versace is the latest couture house to collaborate with H&M on an exclusive designer collection (past partnerships include Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, Comme des Garçons, Roberto Cavalli, Jimmy Choo and, most recently, Lanvin).

The Versace for H&M collection will be available in about 300 select H&M stores worldwide as of November 19, 2011. Donatella Versace has also designed a pre-spring collection for H&M which will be exclusively available in countries with online sales beginning January 19.

Style Showdown: Jenna vs. Claudia

Posted by babu 1:08pm GMT

"The Office" star Jenna Fischer looked ravishing in a red Versace gown during last night's 2010 Emmy Awards.

Model Claudia Schiffer wore a strappier version of the same gown to the Grazie Gianni Con Amore Dinner commemorating the 10-year anniversary of Gianni Versace's death several years back.

I love this gown in both versions, on both ladies, so I'm going to have to leave this one as a toss-up.

Which star looked more ravishing in Versace?

Style Showdown: Ciara vs. Tinsley

Posted by babu 11:39am GMT

Over the weekend, Ciara attended La La Vasquez and Carmelo Anthony's wedding wearing an asymmetrical Versace mini and spotted platforms by the same designer.

Tinsley Mortimer
rocked the same playful number to the 2010 Operation Smile Annual Gala back in May.

While I like the dress on both ladies, I prefer Tinsley's choice of shoe, as her gladiator sandals don't compete with the dress' busy print like Ciara's do.

Who wore Versace better?

Fashion Formula: Blake Lively’s Solid Sexy Style

Posted by babu 5:15pm GMT

Is it a mere coincidence that Blake’s last name is Lively? The Gossip Girl’s classy-meets-sexy style has given the fashion world a wake up call and keeps people talking about her red carpet looks.

Blake regularly selects designer pieces that show off a sexy body part (or two) to the max. But to keep the look on the elegant side (even in a naval-revealing white Marchesa brocade jacket or scarlet Versace gown), the young actress skips prints, and sticks to a classic palette of black, white and red solids.

What do you think of Blake Lively's red carpet fashion formula?

Versace Rules the Red Carpet at the Whitney Museum Gala

Posted by babu 11:14am GMT

Ciao, bellas! Celebs rocked the red carpet last night at the Whitney Museum Art Gala in NYC where actors, models, and fashion types (aka, the faces you see guest-judging on "Project Runway") mingled among the modern art.

There was no need to ask "Where did you get that dress?" since the top-tier stars were all in Versace.

Jennifer Hudson showed off her new-mom radiant glow and her mini-me: designer Donatella Versace in a dress the same shade as Hudson's.

Mischa Barton evoked Old Hollywood glamour in her midnight silk dress, while actress Mamie Gummer, who looks so much like mom Meryl Streep, stood out in bold blue.

But Shakira's armor-esque metal dress looked like she was poured into it and would be standing most of the evening.

Whose Versace dress is your favorite?
