One Designer, Two Ways: Stella McCartney

Posted by babu 2:37pm GMT

Just weeks after Iman stole the spotlight in a gold Stella McCartney jumpsuit at the "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty" Costume Institute Gala, Gwen Stefani sported the same sequin style, only in black, at "The Tree Of Life" premiere during the Cannes Film Festival.

While I personally think the Elvis-like jumpsuits belong on stage in Vegas (and not on the red carpet), I like how the black shade and more modest belt in Gwen's style are a bit more subtle so, if I had to choose one over the other, I'd go with hers.

Which style is the right way, and which one needs to hit the highway? You tell me in the comment section below.

Sequin Jumpsuits: Trend or Foe?

Posted by babu 5:27pm GMT

Viva Las Vegas!

Models Iman and Chanel Iman and Jennifer Lopez have been taking the less than subtle approach to scene stealing with bronze and gold sequin-covered jumpsuits.

While the J. Lo (and model) types of the world can certainly pull off the sparkly trend, I can't help but think it comes across as a (slightly) cheap ploy for attention. I'm much more impressed by celebs who rely on minimalistic beauty, and not all the bells and whistles.

What's your take on sequin jumpsuits?

This Week's Fab Five

Posted by babu 5:45pm GMT

This week was all about grown-up glamour. And the winners are...

Kate Middleton (aka Catherine Duchess of Cambridge) in Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen on her royal wedding day. There was so much speculation about Catherine's gown that I was afraid to see her final gown choice for fear that it would dissappoint. It didn't. The sweetheart neckline and V-neck, lace overlay added just enough drama to this otherwise classic wedding gown, which is no doubt fit for a princess.

Pippa Middleton
in Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen at Catherine's royal wedding. Pippa, Kate's younger sister and maid of honor, might not have managed to upstage the princess, but she sure managed to capture a lot of hearts in this ivory satin-based crepe dress, which came across as being mature without being matronly (I love that she wore the same designer as the bride!).

Iman
in Jason Wu at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards. The supermodel and entrepeneur looked fierce in this feminine fuschia gown, which featured flirty frills along the neckine. She accessorized with turquoise drop earrings.

Blake Lively in Zuhair Murad Couture at the Time 100 Gala. The "Gossip Girl" star reminded me of a modern-day mermaid in this seafoam and cream, ombre gown, which boasted beautiful embellishments along the bodice.

Kerry Washington
in Catherine Malandrino at the Time 100 Gala. The actress pulled off this bold, abstract-print silk gown with flying colors, sealing the deal with a pair of gold peep-toe platforms.

Which leading lady's grown-up gown is most breathtaking?

This Week's Fab Five

Posted by babu 3:25pm GMT

This week was all about showing off your girly side. And the winners are...

Julianne Hough
in Randi Rahm at the 2011 ACM Awards. The "DWTS" dancer truly popped in this melon-colored halter gown, which featured a partially sheer skirt with floral emboridering and a sexy open back.

Heidi Klum
in Gucci at the 2011 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards. Edgy meets sophistication in the "Project Runway" star's heavily embellished shift dress, which she playfully paired with suede, open-toe platform booties.

Taylor Swift in Elie Saab at the 2011 ACM Awards. Taylor took the subtle approach to sweet in this pastel yellow gown, which was covered with intricate emboridering and floral appliques.

Iman in Marc Jacobs at the the Point Foundation’s 4th Annual Point Honors event in New York. Iman oozed romance in this asymmetrical silk sensation, which was adorned with a beautiful rosette at the waist.

Miley Cyrus in Dolce & Gabbana at the 2011 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards. The usually edgy Miley looked refreshing (and adorable) in this breezy, floral-print maxi dress, which she casually accessorized with layered necklaces and what appeared to be a cage ring.

Which star's girly style is your fave?

Dare to Wear: IMAN

Posted by babu 5:17pm GMT

Iman looked chic from head to toe (make that head to waist) while paying a visit to Sirius XM's Martha Stewart show.

I love the super model and business woman's breezy, Bahamas-worthy Chris Benz blazer and necklace but, unfortunately, the same can't be said of her lackluster, cropped pants, which appeared to have been three sizes too big for her.

I wonder if she kept one hand in her pocket to help keep them from falling down.

Would you dare to wear this look?

This Week's Fab Five

Posted by babu 12:57pm GMT

This week was all about trying something different. And the winners are...

Eva Mendes
in Oscar de la Renta at "The Other Guys" premiere in New York. This posh, light gray sensation comes complete with a detachable skirt, which Eva left behind while out and about in New York the same day.

Iman rocking a tangerine-colored Victoria Beckham dress at the Essence 40th Anniversary Party in New York. The bright hue and metallic belt pairing really livens up this otherwise simple sheath. The supermodel adds an edgy touch with black nails and matching black, peep-toe Louboutins.

Lea Michele
posing in a strapless Giambattista Valli gown at the Fox Summer TCA All-Star Party in Los Angeles. I would've loved to have seen Lea throw on some gold jewelry to accentuate this dress, which has "Grecian goddess" written all over it.

Karina Smirnoff rocking a red bandage dress at the BlogHer Kiss & Tell Summer Party in New York. While Karina could manage to look hot in a trash bag, this dress has certainly proved one of her spiciest yet.

Estelle
sparkling in a Doo.Ri minidress at Grey Goose Entertainment and BET's "Rising Icons" Series event in New York. The gem-encrusted, bright turqoise paneling along the sides of this dress is to die for! I also love how Estelle opted for bright pink Jimmy Choo sandals when a lot of celebs would've deferred to nude or black. It really makes for a refreshing and unexpected color palette.

Which celeb's unexpected style is your fave?

Best-Dressed at the 2010 CFDA Fashion Awards

Posted by babu 2:23pm GMT

There's never a shortage of fun, fearless fashion at the CFDA Fashion Awards, which recognizes contributions made to American fashion by individuals from all areas of the industry and related arts.

Some of my favorite looks this year included those of Gwyneth Paltrow, who rocked a Michael Kors Black Paillette Stretch Doubleface One Shoulder Slice Gown, Sarah Jessica Parker, who paid tribute to late designer Alexander McQueen in a naturesque gown bursting with varying shades of pink and purple, and model and actress Devon Aoki, who killed it in a black silk Zac Posen Pre-Fall 2010 gown with chiffon skirting.

This Week's Fab Five

Posted by babu 3:40pm GMT

This week was all about strapless sheaths and one-shouldered wonders. And the winners are...

Demi Moore wearing a strapless Marchesa dress at the "Valentine's Day" premiere in London. I love how oversized organza flower appliqus add extra dimension to this dress without causing it to lose its shape altogether. While I may have preferred this dress with nude pumps, I do like how Demi bypassed a necklace to keep the flowers in focus.

Iman looking stunning in an Angel Sanchez gown at amfAR’s New York Gala to kick off Fall 2010 Fashion Week. The fan-like pleating along the asymmetrical neckline and bodice of this gown is nothing short of mesmerizing. The gown's rich, emerald shade and Iman's eccentric jewels complete the class act (which is my favorite here).

Jennifer Garner rocking a nude and black Valentino sheath from the pre-fall collection at the "Valentine's Day" premiere in Los Angeles. The alternate draping of leather and lace gave this dress a naughty vs. nice appeal.

Anne Hathaway working it in a feathered Marchesa mini at the "Valentine's Day" premiere in Los Angeles. The playful nature of the feathers and bright cobalt shade of this dress really capture the actress's youth without going overboard (the sleek design and the fact that the dress materials are kept the same shade help keep things tame). I keep a close watch on Anne for moments just like this.

Emily Blunt enchanting in a Grecian-inspired Kaufman Franco dress at "The Wolfman" premiere in Los Angeles. While I probably wouldn't have thought to pair a dress with such intricate waist detailing with an equally complex headpiece, I was extremely pleased with the outcome. I also love how the asymmetrical hem falls short of covering up Emily's gladiator-style heels.

Which star's red-carpet look is your favorite?

Blushing Beauties at Glamour Magazine's Women of the Year Awards

Posted by babu 12:31pm GMT

I can’t help but gush over these ladies in blush. The colors, the dresses, the good cause that recognizes the accomplishments of so many amazing women!

Last night, Glamour magazine held their annual Women of The Year Awards and honored those who have made such a difference in so many lives. Among the honorees was Glamour’s current cover girl Rihanna who was presented with her award by Iman. Ah, the perfect segue to discuss THOSE dresses:

Rihanna
is in a frothy Stephane Rolland
couture gown and spoke about how she landed on such a sweet spectacle of a dress by saying she decided to wear the tightest dress she could find, natch.

While others would look like they are auditioning for “Fraggle Rock,” Iman
looks runway ready with her matching heels and Jason Wu feather dress.

Tyra Banks
looked ultra slim in a Rachel Roy
buff-colored shift dress and sleek hair to match the chic simplicity of the dress.

Kerri Washington was in a pale pink Fendi
number that fits with the blushing beauties theme, but the photo doesn’t do the shade justice. It also looks like the dress started to unravel a bit at the hem --the curse of wearing delicate chiffon with heels.

Also on hand for the event, Stella McCartney in one of her own designs, Catherine Zeta-Jones
in floor-sweeping navy lurex Gustavo Cadile
design, Katherine McPhee in bold blue BODYAMR dress and many more. Read about all the highlights at the Glamour website here.

Trend or Foe: Thigh-High Boots

Posted by babu 9:00am GMT

Are Jery Sandoval, Iman and Victoria Beckham ready for the catwalk, or the street-walk?! Long since the days of "Pretty Woman," thigh-high boots have exploded on and off the red carpet scene, but some (including myself) might argue that these city slickers belong on the corner.

See more celebrities wearing thigh-high boots, and find out how many werewolves were actually surrounding Iman, in this hilarious lookbook by Project Rungay bloggers Tom and Lorenzo.

What's your take on thigh-high boots?
