Trend to Try: Serious Blazers Top Flirty Skirts

Posted by babu 11:10pm GMT

Layering up for the cold weather doesn't mean your style has to get buried along the way.

Take inspiration from stars who have have achieved their fashion honors with a mix of serious structured blazers on top and party-ready skirts below. Together, these perfect partners create a variety of functional yet flirty ensembles.

Jennifer Connelly's recent smart navy jacket balances a bold print skirt and funky heels, which stand out against dark tights, for a cool modern effect.

Nicole Kidman shows off how to wear a similar look in warmer climates with shades of cream and white, bare legs and neutral heels.

And the reigning queen of mix-and-match style, Olivia Palermo, blends an edgy leather blazer (topped with a few unexpected ladylike brooches) with a classic black skirt and ultra-feminine lace tights.

Whose chic blazer and flirty skirt combo would you wear?

Now Add This: Statement Necklaces

Posted by babu 7:49pm GMT

Have a holiday party and stuck for ideas on how to dress up items from your closet? The fastest way to update anything this season — from dresses to T-shirts — is to add a major statement necklace.

Even the most basic item, like the plain white button-down shirt Eva Mendes wore to a film premiere last night, gets attention when paired with this look-at-me accessory. And since bolder is better, you can let your personality shine through your choice of necklace. (Ahem, yes, that is an extra-large panther on gorgeous cougar Demi Moore's neck.)

I'm Obsessed With: Gleaming Oxfords

Posted by babu 11:57am GMT

OK, OK, so not many people would call the poster girl for anti-fashion, Kristen Stewart, a trendsetter for gotta-have-it accessories. Her “gun” shirt at the "New Moon" premiere in Mexico is enough to send any glam lover running in the opposite direction. BUT those shoes! They may not be everybody’s cup of English tea, but get me into oxfords stat!

If you need another shining example of how to wear the style, check out one of my favorite red-carpet regulars, Olivia Palermo, in her silver oxfords. I’ve yet to track down the designer of either shoe, but there has been some speculation on the fashion forums that they may be Sergio Rossi or Gucci.

I did find an amazing pair of Candela silver oxfords, but I think I may have snagged the last of three pairs in existence. Sorry, loves. Like I said: “I’m Obsessed!”

What do you think of gleaming Oxford shoes?

Fashion Formula: Olivia Palermo's Mix-and-Match Style

Posted by babu 10:39pm GMT

Having a fashion formula doesn't mean being so predictable. Olivia Palermo may be the most-hated girl on MTV's "The City," but she's also the one with the wardrobe (and a unique sense of style) that everyone loves.

While the NYC socialite-model-publicist is never one to be caught in the same look twice, she does have a few fashion rules you can adopt to achieve her eclectic polished style:

1) Stock your closet full of classic foundations: the perfect white tee, versatile jackets, and lots of neutral grays.

2) An effortless mix of neutral shades (blacks, grays, whites and beiges) with a few touches of color from accessories (or even nails) looks great on everyone.

3) Forget about trying to match shoes and bags; that's so "Mad Men."

4) Mix and match accessories to transform a basic look into something unique and personal.

What do you think of Olivia Palermo's mix-and-match style?
