Dare to Wear: Leighton Meester

Posted by babu 2:01pm GMT

Hello, Mimi, are you in there?

No matter how hard I tried (and believe me, I tried), I couldn't bring myself to appreciate Leighton Meester's look at the 14th Annual Hollywood Awards Gala.

While the "Gossip Girl" actress's smoky blue, ruched Elie Saab dress with allover sequin embellishments was no doubt sensational, I was perplexed by her similarly-blue range of accessories, including matching suede platforms and cobalt, crystal-capsule jewelry.

Leighton
topped off her look with a frizzy updo, blue eyeshadow and bushy eyebrows.

Would you dare to wear this look?

Dare to Wear: Kristen Stewart

Posted by babu 2:06pm GMT

And for all those reasons listed in my "Eclipse" red-carpet recap and more, I'm giving today's DTW title to the sheepish Kristen Stewart (in Elie Saab).

If there were ever a time when one of KStew's leather jackets would've actually come in handy, this would've been it.

Would you dare to wear this look?

Stars Get "Hip" at the 2010 Screen Actors Guild Awards

Posted by babu 11:02am GMT

Usually, women try to play down their hips. But it seems Hollywood has finally embraced feminine curves, and stars deliberately played them up at last night's 2010 Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards with strategically placed brooches and gown details.

Bold shoulders were a surprise trend this year, but Marion Cotillard's Elie Saab couture gown design emphasized hips instead. Other stars, like Mariah Carey, "The Closer" star Kyra Sedgwick and "An Education" film actress Carey Mulligan used diamond pins to call attention to hips and whittled waists.

But it was Kate Hudson's white-hot bejeweled Pucci design with hip embellishment that burned up the red carpet and showed off her every curve.

Two Ways to Wear: Fitted Forties-Inspired Dresses

Posted by babu 12:06am GMT

Want to know how to get dressed in under 5 minutes? Talk a cue from Jennifer Lopez and Nelly Furtado who rely on a forties-style fitted dress.

Lopez proves that one of these classic shifts works in Miami where she wore hers, while the pale grey Elie Saab dress (from his Fall 2009 ready-to-wear line) singer Furtado wore to the designer's Spring show in Paris screams "chic" in any country.

Ladies, if you don't have one of these dresses already in your closet, run out and get one fast since they magically create curves where none exist or show off an envious hour-glass figure, all while giving off a demure, sophisticated vibe.

If color's your thing, then go for a bold shade, and the effect is still the same. Like I said, magic.
