Colored Leopard: Trend or Foe?

Posted by kgranero 12:48pm GMT

Paula Patton (shown here at the "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" premiere in Madrid) is the latest celeb to hop aboard the colored leopard trend.

With a little help from Dolce & Gabbana (the designer label behind all three of these styles), it appears the only way to one-up an animal print is to meld it with an outrageous hue (the more foreign to the animal kingdom, the better).

While I'm usually drawn to the bold and the beautiful, I tend to prefer neutrals and primary colors when it comes to feline-inspired frocks, as these appear a little too processed for me.

What's your take on colored leopard?

Style Showdown: Serena vs. Katy

Posted by babu 11:23am GMT

Leopard lover Serena Williams looked sexy in a yellow, spotted Dolce & Gabbana mini with lace detailing along the hem while hosting the Hamptons Magazine Cover Party recently in New York.

Katy Perry was first seen wearing the yellow creation while out and about in New York back in June.

While I appreciate Serena's killer confidence in showing off her boot, I just love Katy's ankle-strap peep-toes and multi-pendant chain necklace, so I'm giving this one to her.

Serena Williams Q&A: Star Athlete with Statement-Making Style

Posted by babu 12:00pm GMT

Whether on-court or off, Serena Williams is a fashionable force to be reckoned with. Here, the renowned tennis pro with a sweet spot for the sparkly (she won’t dare enter a match without her “Lucky Ring”) dishes about her road to athletic stardom, the inspiration behind her successful jewelry and accessories line for HSN, and the one statement piece every woman should own.

Q: The name of your collection for HSN is Signature Statement. What are some ways in which you try to make a statement on the court and in everyday life?

A: I always try to make a statement both on and off the court. My excitement and drive have enabled me to explore many creative paths throughout the years. I understand the talent and precision it takes to make beautiful things come to life. One of my dreams has always been to share gorgeous gifts of fashion and luxury with the world, which is why I have created my Signature Statement collection for HSN.

Q: What one statement piece should every woman own?

A: A statement ring! It's something every woman should own in her jewelry box. It should definitely be something classy and sophisticated that can be used both day and night.

Q: One of the rings in the collection was modeled after your very own “Lucky Ring.” Can you tell us a little bit about your ring and what it means to you?

A: Every time I’m on the court, I wear this ring. I’m so excited that we’ve created this ring for HSN, and it’s available in silver or gold with all different color stones, from diamonds to amethysts!

Q: Do you wear any of the pieces in the collection? If so, which ones?

A: I wear them all! You can spot me on the court wearing my jewelry, from the bracelets to the earrings and chunky cocktail rings. I design each of the pieces and love them all. I always try the pieces first before my consumers can purchase them, to make sure they are perfect. I also love when people ask me where I got them. Now I can tell them, "HSN!"

Q: Do you plan on expanding your jewelry and accessories line in the future? If so, which jewelry or accessory trend are you dying to tap into?

A: Since I started my collection over a year ago, I cannot begin to tell you how much it has grown. I now have so many more fashion pieces, including dresses and even jeans. Each time I am on HSN, I add even more jewelry and accessory pieces.

OK, now the lightning round …

Favorite color? Pink.
Favorite designer? Aneres [Serena's very own label], Eleven, Burberry, Alaïa and Louis Vuitton.
Favorite midnight snack? Sugar-free applesauce and soy yogurt.
Person you’d most like to meet — past or present? Malcolm X.
Guilty pleasure? Various TV sitcoms, "Avatar," "The Last Airbender," "Smallville."
Qualities you most admire in a person? A great sense of humor and not taking themselves seriously.
Favorite getaway? Paris.
Favorite place to shop? Paris, and River Island in London.
Hardest trend to pull off? For me it's a leotard. Lady Gaga really set the standard high!

Style Showdown: Jennifer vs. Serena

Posted by babu 4:51pm GMT

Hulk Hogan's current girlfriend Jennifer McDaniel wore a leopard Dolce & Gabbana sheath to the Comedy Central Roast of David Hasselhoff, just weeks after tennis pro Serena Williams was spotted in the dress at the Pre-ESPYs Party.

While both ladies kept their accessories to a minimum, Serena's sexy stance had "woman on the prowl" written all over it, so I'm giving this one to her.

This Week's Fab Five

Posted by babu 12:37pm GMT

This week was all about the perfect party dress. And the winners are...

Emmanuelle Chriqui
in a BCBG for Max Azria LBD at the 2010 ESPY Awards. The mesh netting along the neckline and knit skirt helped balance out the harsh, leather bodice of this dress for a sassy, yet sweet, look.

Kristin Cavallari
wearing an asymmetrical Zuhair Murad bodice at "The Hills" Series Finale Party in Los Angeles. The realty TV actress played up the shimmer and lace detailing throughout the dress with metallic peep-toes.

Lauren Conrad rocking an olive-green Mandalay dress at "The Hills" Series Finale Party in Los Angeles. Swirl-like traces of gold sequins added a touch of glam to this long-sleeve dress, which Lauren paired with light grey pumps.

Kristen Bell in a Louis Vuitton Spring 2010 dress at the Louis Vuitton and Vanity Fair Cocktail Party. The blue and white tie-dye print, along with a mesh V-neckline, made this dress a truly fun (and flirty) pick.

Serena Williams
working it in a leopard-print Dolce & Gabbana sheath at the Pre-ESPYs House Party in Bel Air. This dress's emerald hue provides a fresh take on the animal print trend.

Style Showdown: Serena Williams vs. Ciara

Posted by babu 3:30pm GMT

Tennis pro Serena Williams recently paired her gold-sequined Gryphon tank with a black blazer and cropped pants for the "Whip It" premiere in Los Angeles. Singer Ciara wore the same tank with leather leggings to the "Orphan" premiere in Los Angeles in late July. For me, this one's a toss-up.

Which celeb looks more sultry in sequins?
