Red-Carpet Recap: 2011 Glamour Women of the Year Awards

Posted by kgranero 5:27pm GMT

This year's Glamour Women of the Year Awards was characterized by understated elegance.

My best dressed picks include Lea Michele (who brought on the Taylor Swift-worthy bubbly in a champagne Jenny Packham gown with beautiful beading throughout), Emma Stone (who resembled a Grecian goddess in a light green Lanvin gown and chained accessories) and Jennifer Lopez (who accentuated her every curve in a petal-covered Atelier Versace gown).

Donatella Versace (in a pastel yellow gown with beading throughout) and Kerry Washington (in a ruched chiffon Marchesa gown with a jeweled brooch at the hip) also shared the red carpet spotlight.

Which star's style proved most glamorous?

This Week's Fab Five

Posted by kgranero 3:55pm GMT

This week was all about sheers and serious shimmer. And the winners are...

Claire Danes in Oscar de la Renta at the 2011 Emmy Awards. While Claire usually opts for more casual (read: flat) red-carpet fare, she looked fierce in this mosaic, sequin-paneled gown.

Liv Tyler in Stella McCartney at the 2011 New York City Ballet Fall Gala. The actress looked breathtaking in this burlesque-inspired gown, which featured intricate embroidering along the bodice.

Kerry Washington in Zuhair Murad at the 2011 Emmy Awards. The always-polished actress looked red-hot in this sweetheart gown, which boasted a partially sheer skirt and beautiful bugle beading throughout.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Burberry at the Moet & Chandon Etoile Award Gala Ceremony. Rosie proved you can still wear white after Labor Day, as long as you wear it well, in this charming gown complete with sheer, blouson sleeves and a deep-plunge neckline (which has really made a comeback on the red carpet as of late).

Evan Rachel Wood in Elie Saab at the 2011 Emmy Awards. Sculpted shoulders and allover sequins added a mod touch to this otherwise retro gown, which the actress accessorized with a metallic silver clutch.

Which star's glamorous style is your fave?

Red-Carpet Recap: 2011 VH1 Do Something Awards

Posted by babu 4:54pm GMT

Bold and bright was the name of the game at this year's VH1 Do Something Awards.

Standout styles included those of Rose McGowan (who followed the lead of celebs like Zoe Saldana and Jessica Alba and sported a starry number from the Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2011 collection, paired with bright red platforms), Brittany Snow (who prowled down the carpet in a leopard Camilla and Marc skater dress and ochre Mary Janes) and Kerry Washington (who showed off her flawless figure in an asymmetrical Zuhair Murad bodice with sheer overlay and lace booties).

Victoria Justice
(who looked red hot in a ruffled mini and leopard, ankle-strap platforms) and Olivia Wilde (who test-drove the key-hole trend in a cutout Chloe Resort dress with allover pleating) were also among the evening's head turners.

Which star's bold style is most beautiful?

Move over, cleavage!

More and more celebs are foregoing plunging necklines and instead opting for dresses with sizzling, vertical slits.

Take a cue from Zoe Saldana, Maria Sharapova and Kerry Washington and test-drive the key-hole cutout trend for less with the Orange Split Neck Halter Dress, $76, topshop.com.

Will you try this trend?

Red-Carpet Recap: 2011 ESPY Awards

Posted by babu 3:39pm GMT

Television's leading athletes had no shortage of eye candy at the 2011 ESPY Awards, which took place yesterday in Los Angeles.

Sizzling styles included those of tennis player Maria Sharapova (who showed off her girly side in a beaded and feathered Alexander McQueen dress and matching heels), Kerry Washington (who sparkled in a slinky Jenny Packham number and partially metallic pumps) and Amber Heard (who mesmerized in a sequined Vivienne Westwood sheath and satin peep-toes).

Rachel Nichols (in a leather-trimmed, turquoise Versace bodice with swirl-like cutouts in back) and Emmanuelle Chriqui (in a full-skirted, leather mini and red sandal platforms) also contributed to the red-carpet heat wave.

Which star's ESPY style truly sizzled?

Red-Carpet Recap: 2011 BET Awards

Posted by babu 2:06pm GMT

I love the BET Awards because they're always characterized by unconventional (and downright cool) styles.

This year's noteworthy attendees included Kelly Rowland (who looked flirty in a fuchsia Notte by Marchesa dress with ruffles cascading down the front), Kerry Washington (who proved a bright idea in a neon yellow Michael Kors halter gown) and Keri Hilson (who tapped into the color-blocking trend in a purple and black Tibi jumpsuit).

Eve (in a leather vest and legging combo, topped off with a "Rapunzel" braid) and Michelle Williams (in a purple jersey dress and metallic cutout heels) were also on the scene.

Style Showdown: Kerry Washington vs. Zooey Deschanel

Posted by babu 11:57am GMT

As usual, Kerry Washington looked polished to perfection in a nude Valentino dress with black, multi-patterned overlay at the World Ocean Day 2011 celebrattion hosted by La Mer and Oceana in New York.

Zooey Deschanel wore the same daisy-embroidered dress to this year's Vanity Fair Oscar Party just a few months back.

While I give Zooey credit for being the first torock the flirty frock, I prefer Kerry's simple, black heels to Zooey's red-satin pumps, as they lend to a more sophisticated feel (and don't compete with her dress).

Who wore Valentino better?

This Week's Fab Five

Posted by babu 5:45pm GMT

This week was all about grown-up glamour. And the winners are...

Kate Middleton (aka Catherine Duchess of Cambridge) in Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen on her royal wedding day. There was so much speculation about Catherine's gown that I was afraid to see her final gown choice for fear that it would dissappoint. It didn't. The sweetheart neckline and V-neck, lace overlay added just enough drama to this otherwise classic wedding gown, which is no doubt fit for a princess.

Pippa Middleton
in Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen at Catherine's royal wedding. Pippa, Kate's younger sister and maid of honor, might not have managed to upstage the princess, but she sure managed to capture a lot of hearts in this ivory satin-based crepe dress, which came across as being mature without being matronly (I love that she wore the same designer as the bride!).

Iman
in Jason Wu at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards. The supermodel and entrepeneur looked fierce in this feminine fuschia gown, which featured flirty frills along the neckine. She accessorized with turquoise drop earrings.

Blake Lively in Zuhair Murad Couture at the Time 100 Gala. The "Gossip Girl" star reminded me of a modern-day mermaid in this seafoam and cream, ombre gown, which boasted beautiful embellishments along the bodice.

Kerry Washington
in Catherine Malandrino at the Time 100 Gala. The actress pulled off this bold, abstract-print silk gown with flying colors, sealing the deal with a pair of gold peep-toe platforms.

Which leading lady's grown-up gown is most breathtaking?

Red-Carpet Recap: 2011 Time 100 Gala

Posted by babu 3:26pm GMT

The 2011 Time 100 Gala, held in honor of the world's most influential people, took place at Lincoln Center in New York last night.

Some of the more notable celeb styles to surface from the event included those of Blake Lively (who debuted a red 'do in a cream and seafoam-green ombre Zuhair Murad gown), Anna Kendrick (who rocked a plunging Z Spoke by Zac Posen LBD and basic black pumps) and Kerry Washington (who radiated in an abstract Malandrino gown and gold peep-toes).

While I loved both Blake and Kerry's evening looks, I couldn't help but think Anna's ensemble was a little off (as usual). Perhaps if she'd done something with her hair and accessorized beyond her gold earrings and ring, she would've made a bigger, better impression.
