Satin Platforms: Trend or Foe?

Posted by babu 6:43pm GMT

Blame it on the "Black Swan" effect (which has also lead to an outpouring of feathered frocks on the red carpet), but celebs like Emma Roberts, Emma Stone and Eva Longoria have been pirouetting down the red carpet in a range of satin platforms.

While no doubt enchanting, I personally think that, when it comes to footwear, satin should be reserved for theballet and bridal parties.

What's your take on satin platforms?

This Week's Fab Five

Posted by babu 4:49pm GMT

This week was all about breezy hues and lacy details. And the winners are...

Blake Lively in Chanel at the "Green Lantern" premiere in Los Angeles. Blake is having a serious Chanel moment and, while the partially-sheer skirting on this gown took a little getting used to, the allover floral applique detailing is to die for.

Diane Kruger in Alessandra Rich at the 'Liaisons Au Louvre II Charity' Gala Dinner. Diane has a penchant for traditional styles with modern twists (a la Jason Wu), so it comes to no surprise that she chose this sassy-meets-sweet belt and gown pairing.

Eva Longoria in Monique Lhuillier at the 2011 Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund Awards. Eva (like Demi Moore andAngelina Jolie) has a tendency to wear black on the red carpet, so it's refreshingwhenever she opts for color. This seafoam-hued dress is both feminine and sophisticated. I only wishshe'daccessorizedwith amatte shoe.

Olivia Wilde in Yigal Azrouel Resort at the 10th Annual Chrysalis Butterfly Ball. Olivia exuded elegance in this patterned chiffon gown, which featured jewel detailing along the waist and sheer sleeves.

Heidi Klum in Michael Kors at theSecond Annual amfAR Inspiration Gala. The "Project Runway" judge showed off her flawless figure in this slinky, electric-blue gown, which she accessorized with strappy nude sandals.

Which star's feminine style is your favorite?

Worst Dressed at the 2011 Grammy Awards

Posted by babu 4:40pm GMT

There’s a fine line between looking over-the-top good and over-the-top bad. These talented women managed to cross the line from rocking to shockingly ugly, even for the Grammy Awards.

Miley Cyrus in Roberto Cavalli. The teen sensation seems to be dressing how she thinks a rock star should dress. A 40-year-old rock star, that is.

Eva Longoria in Ashi Studio. Believe me, we are thrilled that Longoria isn’t wearing a mermaid-style strapless gown again. But the newly single star is evoking images of a cocktail waitress in her black and white getup.

Rihanna in Jean Paul Gaultier. This sheer paneled gown has us longing for the feather frock she wore to last year’s Grammys. The horizontal stripes don’t do her smoking body any justice.

Katy Perry in Giorgio Armani. Wings? Check. Sparkly bra? Check. Iridescent skirt? Check. Katy Perry’s red-carpet ensemble has all the makings of a Victoria’s Secret Angel Halloween costume.

Ciara in Emilio Pucci. Ciara took Grecian chic a bit far with her daring patterned dress and hard-core sandals. We applaud her for trying to stand out from the crowd, but sometimes less is more.

Who was your worst dressed at this year's Grammys?

Best Dressed at the 2011 SAG Awards

Posted by babu 11:25am GMT

One by one, stars swept across the red carpet in a variety of breezy (and, in many cases, belted) evening gowns at the 2011 SAG Awards. And my top picks include...

Eva Longoria
in Georges Hobeika Couture. Watch out J. Lo! Not only was it refreshing to see Eva choose a gown that is neither BLACK nor FISHTAILED, but I am obsessed with the allover ruching on this plunging, crepe cutout gown.

Mila Kunis in Alexander McQueen. Call it a comeback but, just like Eva, newfound singledom seems to be doing Mila's body (and wardrobe) good. The actress, who proved a woman to watch at this year's Golden Globes, was at it again last night in this chiffon sweetheart gown with allover watercolor print. A sheer, cream-colored sash along the waist wrapped up her romantic, cha-cha-esque look.

Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta. I haven't exactly been swooning over Lea's red-carpet picks lately, so it's really nice to see her back on the best-dressed wagon. The "Glee" star exuded a head-to-toe glow in this creamy, wrap gown with allover shimmer. She added a modern touch of glam with a gold skinny belt at the waist.

Claire Danes in Louis Vuitton. While I've been on the fence about some of Claire's looks (including her neon pink Calvin Klein gown at this year's Golden Globes) in the past, there's no denying she looked gorgeous in this gardenesque gown, which was covered in silk floral appliques and topped off with a long, velvet belt. Her number one accessory? Husband Hugh Dancy.

Jayma Mays
in Jenny Packham. I especially love when younger stars pick Jenny Packham for the red carpet, because her designs are so fresh and free-spirited. Much like Emma Stone at the Golden Globes, Jayma was perfection in this polished, yet still playful, peach gown, which boasted sequin detailing along the shoulders. While I also loved Jayma's natural palette, I would've preferred to see her go with a simpler, less strap-heavy shoe.

Red-Carpet Recap: 2010 MTV Europe Music Awards

Posted by babu 1:59pm GMT

Stars sacrificed class in the name of creativity at the 2010 MTV Europe Music Awards.

Some the most noteworthy looks included those of Rihanna (who was ruffled to perfection in a cream Marchesa gown with allover paisley tulle detailing), Katy Perry (who proved a hot ticket in no other than a sequined, ticket-themed dress created by Jeremy Scott) and Eva Longoria (who took the mini dress to new heights in a barely-there ensemble created by Georges Hobeika).

Other red-carpet stars included Miley Cyrus (in D&G) and Shakira (in a plunging, sequined sheath with an argyle pattern).

This Week's Fab Five

Posted by babu 11:52am GMT

This week was all about dainty details. And the winners are...

Eva Mendes
in Andrew Gn at the "Last Night" premiere in Toronto. Proving we've come a long way from the days of Austin Powers, Eva shows that velvet, when sophisticated in color and proportion, can be dead sexy, baby.

Odette Yustman
in J. Mendel Resort at the "You Again" premiere in Los Angeles. Ever since Michelle Williams reintroduced ochre to the red-carpet coloring box at the 78th Annual Academy Awards, stars can't seem to get enough of the seedy hue-and it's easy to see why. Delicate draping and an off-the-shoulder neckline add an old fashioned feel to this chiffon gown, which happens to be my personal favorite of the five.

Eva Longoria Parker in Georges Rech at the Par Coeur Gala 2010 in Paris. Fit for a seductress, this gown oozes sex appeal from lacy, scalloped neckline to train. The tawny shade of the silk underlay serves as a richer, fall-forward take on nude.

Kristen Bell in Valentino at the "You Again" premiere in Los Angeles. Part sassy, part sweet, this lemondrop of a dress is right on cue with Kristen's flirty approach to style. She gets bonus points for mixing things up with an edgy, studded clutch and matching nude sandals.

Blake Lively in Zuhair Murad on the "Gossip Girl" set. While this look wasn't worn to an event, it was modeled on the red carpet that is the "Gossip Girl" set. A combination of charcoal-grey lace, drapery and exquisite beading, the decolletage-bearing sensation is sure to be a scene-stealer. Watch out Blair Waldorf!

This Week's Fab Five

Posted by babu 3:49pm GMT

This week was all about the hips. And the winners are...

Angelina Jolie
smoking in a sequined Emporio Armani mini at the "Salt" premiere in Los Angeles. This draped LBD, paired with nude, peep-toe platforms, really draws attention to Angelina's slender frame.

Dita von Teese
glowing in a yellow Elie Saab Couture gown at the 2010 Life Ball. Intricate jewel detailing along the lower abdomen added extra wow-factor to this gown, which the burlesque performer paired with a satin clutch in a slightly darker shade of yellow.

Naomi Watts
rocking a strapless Gucci dress at the "Salt" premiere in Los Angeles. Allover, metallic bead-like detailing on this dress created an edgy, futuristic effect. Naomi accessorized with matching sandals and a silver cuff.

Amber Heard working a blush-colored Marchesa sheath at the "Salt" premiere in Los Angeles. While the soft lace overlay on this dress is ultra-sweet, its sexy, curve-hugging shape is anything but.

Eva Longoria in a Gustavo Cadile Fall 2010 dress and platform peep-toes at the Neil Lane Launch Party in Los Angeles. Neil Lane jewels served as the finishing touch to Eva's already glamorous look.

Red-Carpet Recap: Neil Lane Jewelry Launch Party

Posted by babu 11:12am GMT

There was a good mixture of celebs in attendance at the Neil Lane Jewelry Launch Party in Los Angeles yesterday, where the red-carpet theme turned out to be sexy and sophisticated.

Some of my favorite looks included those of Eva Longoria (looking glam in a Gustavo Cadile dress and peep-toes), Kate Walsh (rocking a metallic top, bubble-hem skirt and pumps) and Ashlee Simpson (in a black, body-skimming gown and sandals).

This Week's Fab Five

Posted by babu 3:41pm GMT

This week was all about the Cannes Film Festival. And the winners are...

Kate Beckinsale shimmering from head to toe in a Gucci Premire gown at the "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" premiere. I love the contrast of the silver against the cream on this gown, as well as the large bow across the bodice. Just stunning!

Aishwarya Rai
gleaming in a sequined Armani Prive gown at the "Tournee" screening. The model topped off her classic look with a red lip and silver pumps.

Eva Longoria rocking a white Emilio Pucci gown at the "Robin Hood" premiere. I love the crisscross draping along the bodice of this multi-tiered masterpiece.

Camilla Belle
dazzling in a navy Gucci Premire gown at the "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" premiere. Metallic, sprinkle-like detailing along the shoulder and hip of this gown take it from meek to chic.

Salma Hayek
wearing a maroon Gucci Couture gown at the "Robin Hood" premiere. Rubies add an extra touch of glam to this otherwise simple sensation.

Cannes Film Festival (Cont.)

Posted by babu 12:03pm GMT

The good times continue to roll as celebs like Aishwarya Rai, Carey Mulligan and Eva Longoria make an appearance for Cannes Film Festival: Day 2.

Aishwarya (in Armani Privé) and Eva (in Naeem Khan) both opted for beautifully beaded gowns, while Carey kept it simple in a belted sheath.
