Anne Hathaway (and Smurfette) for Harper's Bazaar August 2011

Posted by babu 1:48pm GMT

Say hello to the "Carrie Bradshaw" of cartoon characters...

Harper's Bazaar is celebrating the upcoming release of "The Smurfs," which hits theaters July 29, by dedicating an entire fashion spread to leading lady Smurfette in its August 2011 issue.

In the playful spread, produced by Harper's Bazaar features/special projects director Laura Brown, Smurfette is accessorized to the nines in designer goods from Lanvin, Dolce & Gabbana (below left), Marc Jacobs (below right) and Louis Vuitton.

The August issue, which stars Anne Hathaway as its cover girl (looking radiant in a silk chiffon Gucci gown), also boasts a Fall Fashion Guide and a feature on Coco Chanel's Secret Life.

Dare to Wear: Kirsten Dunst vs. Anne Hathaway

Posted by babu 1:27pm GMT

Kirsten Dunst and Anne Hathaway both rocked inky (and rather quirky) styles this past weekend.

Kirsten's ensemble consisted of a Proenza Schouler tee and skirt ensemble, which she awkwardly paired with flower-applique sandals, whereas Anne got frisky in a fringed Gucci dress, gladiator heels and some serious specs.

Which star's weekend look proved more daring?

Style Steal: Anne Hathaway's Erdem Dress

Posted by babu 12:29pm GMT

Anne Hathaway oozed cool in an abstract-print Erdem sheath (from the Resort 2011 collection) at Variety's Second Annual Power of Women Luncheon back in September.

Dare to Wear: Anne Hathaway

Posted by babu 11:14am GMT

While I can usually appreciate mix-matched prints (and often attempt to pull them off myself), I just can't will myself to like this Marni striped sweater and polka-dot gaucho ensemble, worn by Anne Hathaway to the 20th Century Fox Press Day for "Rio."

Not only do I prefer the prints in a mix-match pairing to have at least one similar quality (I usually go with pieces that are the same color or are at least in the same or complementary color family), but I don't find either the midriff-baring sweater or pants to be a good fit for the actress (at least one item should have some structure to it).

Add some ruffles and a tribal rope necklace to the mix and you've got a recipe for disaster.

Would you dare to wear this look?

This Week's Fab Five

Posted by babu 3:56pm GMT

This week was all about the Golden Globe Awards. And the winners are...

Angelina Jolie
in Versace. I simply cannot express how refreshing it was to see Angelina choose a gown in any color other black, let alone this sensational spearment shade. A cinched waist, sculpted shoulders and allover shimmer further accentuated her Green Goddess physique.

Megan Fox in Armani Prive. This pastel-pink gown, complete with a gorgeous, crystal-encrusted bandage bodice, strikes the perfect balance between sexy and sophisticated.

Olivia Wilde in Marchesa. Olivia proved the belle of the ball in this black, tulle gown with taupe sequins cascading down, which was on the playful side compared to what we're used to seeing her in.

January Jones
in Versace. Mixed reviews aside, I thought the "Mad Men" star looked ravishingly retro in this hard-to-pull off cutout, fringed gown, which she topped off with a matching red lip.

Anne Hathaway in Armani Prive. While I've expressed disappointment in the predictability factor of Anne choosing this gown (which resembles several of the star's previous, Armani Prive-dominant red-carpet looks), there's no denying she looked like a real-life Golden Globe in this sequined, shoulder-sculpted gown.

Which star's Golden Globes look is your fave?

Style Steal: Anne Hathaway's Colorful Marc Jacobs Dress

Posted by babu 12:20pm GMT

When I came across this party-perfect bustier dress, which boasts removable straps (right), it instantly took me back to the equally colorful and celebratory Marc Jacobs dress worn by Anne Hathaway to the 18th Annual Empire State Pride Agenda Fall Dinner.

Ironically enough, model Chanel Iman was also spotted wearing the dress at last year's Victoria's Secret Fashion Show After Party.

This Week's Fab Five

This week was all about the classics. And the winners are...

Anne Hathaway in Antonio Berardi at the "Love & Other Drugs" premiere in Hollywood. Much like myself, Anne has an appreciation for classic styles with modern, and often unexpected, twists. This dress, which features a sexy, lace inset and futuristic folded panels along the waist is no exception.

Olivia Wilde
in Michael Kors at the 2010 BAFTA Los Angeles Britannia Awards. Olivia relies not on color or design, but rather a combination of different textures (in this case a plunging cashmere top and, the star of the show, a sequined fishtail skirt) to make this look, which is as sensational as it is simplistic.

Carey Mulligan
in Preen at the 2010 BAFTA Los Angeles Britannia Awards. When I first saw this look, my eyes were immediately drawn to Carey's bright blue, suede platforms, which added a playful touch to her otherwise refined paisley-beaded blouse and full skirt ensemble and popped against the red carpet.

Sienna Miller
in Stella McCartney at the UNESCO Charity Gala in Germany. This blush-ccolored gown, which boasts a plunging lace top and a silky smooth skirt, is the epitome of glamour. The actress topped off her look with a diamond collar and drop earrings.

Julianne Moore
in Alexander McQueen at the Bvlgari Express for Save The Children Party in Rome. After the stunt Julianne pulled at "The Kids Are Alright" premiere in London (see her look here), it was refreshing to see her redeem herself in this lace-inset sheath, which she topped off with Christian Louboutin sandals.

This week was all about high glamour. And the winners are...

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad Couture at the Costume Institute Gala. The allover beading on this sweetheart gown is absolutely gorgeous.

Lea Michele
rocking a champagne-colored Oscar de la Renta gown at Time's 100 Most Influential People in the World Gala. A cutout bodice offers a playful touch to this otherwise sophisticated gown.

Camilla Belle ravishing in a candy-apple red Jason Wu creation at the Costume Institute Gala. Chantilly lace inserts peeking out of the bodice add even more depth to this beautifully draped ball gown.

Jessica Alba
dazzling in a black Marios Schwab dress at the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner. Swarovski crystals along the neckline up the ante on this futuristic gown.

Anne Hathaway sparkling in a gold Valentino gown at the Costume Institute Gala. We're not used to seeing Anne pull out the princess card, but judging by how amazing she looked in this Cinderella-worthy wonder, I wouldn't mind seeing her do it more often.

Which star's red-carpet look is most glamorous?
