This Week's Fab Five

Posted by babu 3:33pm GMT

This week was all about the classics. And the winners are...

Anne Hathaway in Antonio Berardi at the "Love & Other Drugs" premiere in Hollywood. Much like myself, Anne has an appreciation for classic styles with modern, and often unexpected, twists. This dress, which features a sexy, lace inset and futuristic folded panels along the waist is no exception.

Olivia Wilde
in Michael Kors at the 2010 BAFTA Los Angeles Britannia Awards. Olivia relies not on color or design, but rather a combination of different textures (in this case a plunging cashmere top and, the star of the show, a sequined fishtail skirt) to make this look, which is as sensational as it is simplistic.

Carey Mulligan
in Preen at the 2010 BAFTA Los Angeles Britannia Awards. When I first saw this look, my eyes were immediately drawn to Carey's bright blue, suede platforms, which added a playful touch to her otherwise refined paisley-beaded blouse and full skirt ensemble and popped against the red carpet.

Sienna Miller
in Stella McCartney at the UNESCO Charity Gala in Germany. This blush-ccolored gown, which boasts a plunging lace top and a silky smooth skirt, is the epitome of glamour. The actress topped off her look with a diamond collar and drop earrings.

Julianne Moore
in Alexander McQueen at the Bvlgari Express for Save The Children Party in Rome. After the stunt Julianne pulled at "The Kids Are Alright" premiere in London (see her look here), it was refreshing to see her redeem herself in this lace-inset sheath, which she topped off with Christian Louboutin sandals.

Which star's classic style is your fave?

Dare to Wear: Julianne Moore

Posted by babu 4:32pm GMT

Julianne Moore has yet again taken a great runway look (from the Lanvin Spring 2011 collection) and done it an even greater injustice.

Worn baggily with an unsupportive (to say the least) bra and basic gladiator sandals, Julianne's look at "The Kids Are Alright" premiere in London appeared more gladiator eek than chic.

Would you dare to wear this look?

Dare to Wear: Julianne Moore

Posted by babu 2:17pm GMT

Talk about a piece of work!

While stars like Leighton Meester and Blake Lively were rocking barely-there dresses at Fashion's Night Out: The Show, actress Julianne Moore looked like a walking paint canvas.

She kept her tunic look casual with black boots and socks and a low ponytail. I just hope this isn't foretelling of her Fashion Week looks to come.

Would you dare to wear this look?

Pip, Pip, Hooray! Fabulous Fashion at “Pippa Lee” Premiere

Posted by babu 11:05pm GMT

I wasn’t won over by the new leggy looks worn by newly single Robin Wright
(she’s dropped the Penn part of her name since our last post), but I loved the daring, modern but oh-so feminine red carpet looks her co-stars wore to their “The Secret Life of Pippa Lee” film premiere.

Friends and co-stars, Marion Cotillard, in a dreamy creamy sequin-accented dress, and Penelope Cruz, in a smart black blazer and of-the moment OTK boots, looked hip while joined at the hip.

Julianne Moore selected a rather tame look from wild fashion duo Viktor & Rolf whose designs were worn recently by Katy Perry for the stage and for shock .

People are still gossiping over Blake Lively’s plunging Marchesa blazer and short shorts. But I wasn’t shocked since the bare-all look is becoming her signature style.

And, Olivia Palermo did not act in the movie, but I still love her downtown cool look of leather leggings and furry vest and my favorite way to accessorize: with a cool clashing clutch.

Rule Breakers or Trend Makers: Cool Coral

Posted by babu 8:22pm GMT

When I first saw Whitney Port
’s adorable peach Marc Jacobs
dress on the red carpet in Las Vegas, I loved it, but I definitely would not have predicted that the cool hue would become a hot color for fall.

At last night’s 13th Annual Hollywood Awards Gala, both Zooey Deschanel (in a Luella Spring 2010 design) and Julianne Moore picked pale peach dresses and chose black accents to set off the beautiful coral shade.

Part of pulling off this look just right lies in the right accessories: Choose either contrasting black to play up the color, or soft metallics that complement and won’t compete against the mouthwatering color.

How do you feel about pale peach for fall and winter?

Stars and Spanx: Julianne Moore Relaxes on the Red Carpet

Posted by babu 1:01pm GMT

For celebrities, to step onto a red carpet without a least 1 - sometimes 2 - pairs of stomach-whittling Spanx is a major fashion faux pas. But how refreshing to see actress and mother of 2 Julianne Moore showing off her natural curves sans the squeeze-masters in a clingy Tom Ford dress at last month’s Venice Film Festival.

While Moore may have skipped the Spanx that evening, and we love her for it, we also love that so many stars admit - yes, in PUBLIC – that these spandex task-masters are their secret weapon to looking trim in designer dresses or getting their pre-baby body back (at least for the few hours they are on the red carpet).

Curvy women like Oprah, Beyonce, and Kim Kardashian, and even skinny-minnies Gwyneth Paltrow, Isla Fisher, Eva Longoria Parker, and Jessica Alba have all given “thanx to Spanx.”

Do you give thanks to Spanx? Tell us your story in the comment section below.
