Best Dressed at the 2012 SAG Awards

Posted by kgranero 4:18pm GMT

Now that I've shared the misses, it's time to highlight the hits.

The glee-ful gems included Naya Rivera (who looked drop-dead gorgeous in a subtly purple, plunging Naeem Khan gown with allover beading), Dianna Agron (who made her mark in a magenta Carolina Herrera gown with ruffle detailing) and Jayma Mays (who sparkled from head to toe in Reem Acra).

Lea Michele (who got leggy in a thigh-high-slit Versace number) and Michelle Williams (who looked ravishingly retro in a red Valentino gown with lace sleeves) also proved women to watch.

One Designer, Two Ways: Victoria by Victoria Beckham

Posted by kgranero 2:11pm GMT

Michelle Williams looked looked adorable in a Victoria by Victoria Beckham babydoll dress with scallop detailing at the 18th Annual BAFTA Awards in Los Angeles.

If you recall, designing diva Victoria Beckham wore a pink and black version of the same design (from the Spring 2012 collection) this past September.

While I've many a time found myself on Team Michelle, I like how the bright pink fabric used to make the dress worn by Victoria (as well as the shorter hem) make for a more playful, spring-like feel (a.k.a designer knows best).

Which style is the right way, and which one needs to hit the highway? You tell me in the comment section below.

Red-Carpet Recap: 2012 Critics' Choice Awards

Posted by kgranero 11:58am GMT

Girly glam (and chiffon) was the name of the game at the 17th Annual Critics Choice Movie Awards, which took place in Los Angeles yesterday evening.

My favorite looks included those of Michelle Williams (who looked classic in a black and white Chanel gown with sculpted shoulders), Charlize Theron (who showed off her flawless figure in a scalloped and faintly scaled Azzedine Alaia number that concluded with multiple rows of ruffles) and Diane Kruger (who achieved pastel perfection in a color-blocked Prada gown).

Runners-up included Elle Fanning (in a Woodstock-worthy floral applique Rodarte gown) and Emma Stone (in a multi-keyhole Jason Wu gown covered with what appeared to be little trees).

Red-Carpet Recap: 2011 BET Awards

Posted by babu 2:06pm GMT

I love the BET Awards because they're always characterized by unconventional (and downright cool) styles.

This year's noteworthy attendees included Kelly Rowland (who looked flirty in a fuchsia Notte by Marchesa dress with ruffles cascading down the front), Kerry Washington (who proved a bright idea in a neon yellow Michael Kors halter gown) and Keri Hilson (who tapped into the color-blocking trend in a purple and black Tibi jumpsuit).

Eve (in a leather vest and legging combo, topped off with a "Rapunzel" braid) and Michelle Williams (in a purple jersey dress and metallic cutout heels) were also on the scene.

Which bold BET Awards look is your fave?

This Week's Fab Five

Posted by babu 12:42pm GMT

This week was all about taking chances. And the winners are...

Emily Deschanel
in BCBG Max Azria at the 2011 Fox All-Star Party. Good girl meets bad girl in this lace and leather-trimmed dress, which happened to be my favorite from the event. I also like how Emily mized things up with square-toe pumps, which seem to be making a comeback for spring.

Natalie Portman in Vena Cava at the "No Strings Attached" premiere in Los Angeles. Not only did this gown succeed in concealing Natalie's baby bump, but the color blocking and cutout detail oozed boho chic.

Lake Bell in Basil Soda at the "No Strings Attached" premiere in Los Angeles. The actress stole the spotlight in this body-hugging bodice, which she topped off with a pair of nude, ankle-strap platforms.

Rachel McAdams
in Michael Kors at the "Morning Glory" premiere in Berlin. The actress looked like a Grecian goddess in this beautiful, breezy halter gown with black leather trimming.

Michelle Williams in Oscar de la Renta at the 2011 National Board of Review Awards Gala. Michelle has a penchant for retro (and often lacy) styles with a modern twist, so when it came to dressing for the awards gala, this dress was probably a no-brainer. She wrapped up her romantic style with a satin bow and platforms.

Which star's chancy style is your fave?

Trend to Try: Red Lace

Warning: These are NOT your grandmother's curtains.

Celebs like Isla Fisher, Michelle Williams and Ginnifer Goodwin have been giving traditional (and often frou-frou) lace looks of the past a run for their money with streamlined styles and rich shades of red. Pair a red-lace-covered sheath with your favorite pumps for a sizzling day-to-night look.

Style Steal: Michelle Williams' Red-Lace Erdem Dress

Posted by babu 2:11pm GMT

Michelle Williams
has a serious talent for finding retro styles with fresh and often unexpected twists.

Case in point: the actress's full-skirted, red-lace overlay Erdem dress worn to the 2010 London Film Festival. Not only am I drooling over the red-lace trend (see Ginnifer Goodwin's Valentino dress here), but I love how the actress packed even more punch into her tea-time look with leopard pumps.
