Based on the silver streak of dresses spotted on the MTV Video Music Awards red carpet last night, we were starting to think the invite read “Moonman-Inspired Fashion Required.”
Except for pop singers Pink and Shakira who showed up in the same Balmain dress (AWK-ward), there was plenty of room for self-expression for stars wearing the glinty trend. Katy Perry was a modern pin-up girl in a spiked bodysuit, while teen singing queen Taylor Swift channeled Old Hollywood in a Kaufman Franco floor grazer.
Boyfriend stealing Kristin Cavallari of "The Hills" flaunted sex appeal in a barely-there silver mini, while "Gossip Girl" Leighton Meester's stellar Christian Cota cocktail dress was on-trend with its bold shoulders. But leave it to sultry Jennifer Lopez to heat up the night in a futuristic golden cut-away Louis Vuitton look and edgy woven booties.
