Dare to Wear: Halle Berry

Posted by babu 1:42pm GMT

Apparently, Halle Berry has been nominated as the latest spokesperson for trend overkill.

While I love jacquard fabrics, especially for the holidays, I couldn't help but think the actress's embroidered blazer and trouser combo (from Balmain) at the "Frankie And Alice" premiere in Los Angeles read more Gold Member than glam.

To make matters worse, she paired the shiny (not to mention ill-fitting) set with a see-through, gold-flinted blouse.

One Designer, Two Ways: Balmain

Posted by babu 5:09pm GMT

Drew Barrymore debuted her black and gold Balmain belt with a McQ Alexander McQueen knot shoulder cape dress at the "Going the Distance" premiere in Los Angeles.

Four days later, the actress used the same belt to add an edgy touch to her metallic Catherine Malandrino gown at the film's premiere in Los Angeles.

Which style is the right way, and which one needs to hit the highway? You tell me in the comment section below.

I’m Obsessed With...Trendy Tuxedo Jackets

Posted by babu 11:32am GMT

Is it because awards season has officially kicked off that I am completely obsessed with topping all my looks with a menswear-inspired tuxedo jacket?

In London, the equally talented singer sister of Kylie Minogue, Danni Minogue, wore her satin suit topper to cruise through the airport, which proves the look is not just for red carpet events.

Eva Mendes makes a demure 3.1 Phillip Lim lace dress more contemporary by combining it with an unexpected shark-skin blazer from the same designer.

And while Olivia Wilde's classic suit look is a chic take on the dapper menswear style, I am craving Jenny McCarthy's edgier silhouette created by the strong shoulder of her Balmain jacket.

Where the Cool Kids Were Last Night: Nars Book Launch

Posted by babu 4:49pm GMT

This is how you throw a red carpet event that is so cool, you need to upgrade to a black carpet:

Step 1:
Start with something BIG to celebrate. In this case, make-up genius François Nars celebrates 15 years of Nars cosmetics. The man that brought us the The Multiple Orgasm (thank you!), just released a limited edition book of 15 celebrity portraits inspired by his famous make-up line and all proceeds go to the stars’ 15 different charities.

Step 2:
Make sure your hostess for the party is one of the world’s wealthiest fashion fanatics, Daphne Guinness, who has the money (and desire) to wear head-to-toe Alexander McQueen, including the infamous “Armadillo” shoes everyone is buzzing about since they were spotted on Lady Gaga in her new “Bad Romance” video.

Step 3:
Have Daphne’s co-host be King of the Cool Kids, Louis Vuitton mega designer Marc Jacobs, and ask that he wear his murse and man-skirt so Daphne doesn’t outshine him on the red carpet.

Step 4:
Invite cool fashion types, like hip designer Erin Fetherston (above, with the blonde bob), who can bring some of the celeb friends they design red carpet dresses for.

Step 5:
Ask your uber-chic statuesque model friends, Amber Valetta (in RM by Roland Mouret dress) and Victoria’s Secret model Selita Ebanks (in Balmain), to mingle with the little people.

Voila! Let the party begin.

Which Nars guest do you want to invite to your next party?

Blushing Beauties at Glamour Magazine's Women of the Year Awards

Posted by babu 12:31pm GMT

I can’t help but gush over these ladies in blush. The colors, the dresses, the good cause that recognizes the accomplishments of so many amazing women!

Last night, Glamour magazine held their annual Women of The Year Awards and honored those who have made such a difference in so many lives. Among the honorees was Glamour’s current cover girl Rihanna who was presented with her award by Iman. Ah, the perfect segue to discuss THOSE dresses:

Rihanna
is in a frothy Stephane Rolland
couture gown and spoke about how she landed on such a sweet spectacle of a dress by saying she decided to wear the tightest dress she could find, natch.

While others would look like they are auditioning for “Fraggle Rock,” Iman
looks runway ready with her matching heels and Jason Wu feather dress.

Tyra Banks
looked ultra slim in a Rachel Roy
buff-colored shift dress and sleek hair to match the chic simplicity of the dress.

Kerri Washington was in a pale pink Fendi
number that fits with the blushing beauties theme, but the photo doesn’t do the shade justice. It also looks like the dress started to unravel a bit at the hem --the curse of wearing delicate chiffon with heels.

Also on hand for the event, Stella McCartney in one of her own designs, Catherine Zeta-Jones
in floor-sweeping navy lurex Gustavo Cadile
design, Katherine McPhee in bold blue BODYAMR dress and many more. Read about all the highlights at the Glamour website here.

Celebrity Misfit: Sienna Miller Cuts Off Her Balmain Dress

Posted by babu 2:13pm GMT

Usually, the extreme high-fashion looks sent down the runway are just for dramatic effect and a more wearable version is what actually hits the stores.

But last night, the Balmain dress Sienna Miller wore in NYC for the after-party for the Broadway opening of her play “After Miss Julie” was shortened to a dangerously unwearable length compared to the original dress Carmen Kass modeled
at Balmain Spring 2010 show in Paris.

Most of Balmain designer Christophe Decarnin’s rock-and-roll-luxe creations are way too wild (and outrageously expensive) to wear anywhere except the red carpet, but Kass’ dress looked downright demure compared to the altered version Miller wore out last night.

Since a simple sequin LBD from Balmain is currently selling for $13,000 on NetaPorter.com, will Sienna be requesting a discount on her shortened style?

What do you think of Sienna Miller's Balmain dress?

Dare to Wear: Rihanna

Posted by babu 12:00pm GMT

What amazes me about Rihanna is that no matter what she wears (bleached jeans, leopard booties, space uniform), she's always managed to make it more than work. That is, until now.

The usually dashing diva pushed the style envelope even further in a push-up bra, blazer and harem pants (both designed by Balmain) at the designer's runway show during Paris Fashion Week. Though I love her futuristic take on fashion, I can't help but wonder: did this look cross the thin line between flashy and trashy?!

Would you dare to wear this look?

Style Showdown: Pink vs. Shakira

Posted by babu 2:00pm GMT

It's every prom goer's worst nightmare! Both Pink and Shakira were caught wearing the same Balmain dress at last night's MTV Video Music Awards. Maybe if these ladies had been prepared with extra wardrobe changes (ala Lady Gaga), they wouldn't have gotten themselves in this "situation."

Check out the biggest hits and misses at this year's Video Music Awards.

Which singer looks better in Balmain?
